When I bought my honda new, I was told by a number of people that if you ever have any problems with it it will be a transmission. I had several put in mine. (I also had some seat belt recalls and things like that, but no big deal on that.) Hello! I have a 1997 Honda Accord Lx 4-cylinder 4-door. Manufacturing it is during the final year so it is close to 1998. Recently I've seen significant cracks on four of my tires. I know that this has been discussed here before but I wanted to know if anyone has bought an evap canister & shut off valve for their Accord at any discount parts store and if so where. local shop replaced the evap bypass solenoid and 2 way valve to fix P1457 code for $370.00 including diag fee. My 1998 Honda Accord EX has taken to dying driving down the road and/or not starting until after a few tries. When starting the car, the engine turns over but immediately dies. The car "sees" the key and the indicator goes off, but, no dice. Turning off the ignition and starting the process again seems to get the car started. Not sure if it is related to steering wheel ... Savannah1 I have a 98 Accord 6cyl and had all the same problems. The stalling while driving was getting worse it was happening every day, morning commute as well as evening commute. The interesting part was I had the turn off the car and let it sit for a least a minute or it would not restart. This always made me believe that the problem was electrical like a bad chip ... I think people make trade-offs. The difference between best in class and worst in class is statistically significant but not actually significant. If a Toyota needs to go to the dealer once every 5 years, and the VW needs to go every 2 or 3 years, its worth it to me to have a more fun to drive car. Dan, You should also check your negative battery cable as a remote possiblility. Over time the cable or ground can become bad. A small screw attaches the cable to the vehicle. If the ground is loose a bump in the road or vibration can cause hesitation and failure. I would pull apart the ground and make sure everything is clean. Might even want to start with a new cable ...
