If you haven't had it done on the recall, that might be your problem. Any Honda dealer should have a record if it was replaced in the past. Worth a try to check it out. Good luck. George

If the ground is loose a bump in the road or vibration can cause hesitation and failure. I would pull apart the ground and make sure everything is clean. Ooops, I was replying to dan about the ignition switch. Yours sounds like it could be the EGR system (valve or ports). Have you had that checked? Intermittent problems are the worst, so I feel your pain. The EGR problems are more common on the V6 engines, but that doesn't mean the I4 is immune. Good luck finding the problem.

Not trying to chastise you, just sharing so that a dealer won't try and take advantage of you thinking you don't know your stuff. :) Now you do! The muffler man actually inspected the exhaust earlier today and all they came up with was that the muffler was starting to go. In their written quote they show the muffler replacement and some gaskets. The rest of the exhaust is also stainless, I hope that most of the other components are ok and that the technician would have picked up on anything else at that time.

Better give the whole system a close look to make sure you don't need other pipes. You can give them the crush test with hose clamps to see if they are rotten on the inside. Otherwise, they'll cut your old muffler off only to find out perhaps that you need more---and then you're stuck, you'd have to buy from them.

VTEC and intake manifold are two different things. VTEC is about variable valve timing and valve-lift control. While many associate VTEC exclusively to performance, it has actually been used for a lot more. VTEC was a follow up development of REV that Honda used in mid-80s motorcycles. In REV, two of four valves (per cylinder) would be kept shut at low rpm (one-intake, one-exhaust). REV has now evolved into Hyper-VTEC (Honda ... Read More

One of the problems with first generation VCM (2005-2007 Accord Hybrid, 2005-2007 Odyssey and 2WD Pilot) was that it had limited opportunities to be used. At the time, VCM (variable cylinder management) could operate in only two modes, I-3 or V6. For 4500+ lb vehicles like Odyssey and Pilot (which used 3.5), the ... Read More

Assuming 1000 dealers, that amounts to 5 units/month, and includes, likely, higher volume four cylinder models.
