This is my 10th Honda and I am really disappointed. Had a 2007 Pilot, got about 17mpg. Last year, bought a 2011 Odyssey and an 2011 Accord EX 4 Cylinder. My Odyssey gets better mileage on trips, 27 to 25. For running around town, etc, the Odyssey gets about 21 while the Accord only gets 19-20 mpg. I should get more than 300 miles per tank. My 1996 Accord (stick) got ... Read More
I have a 2011 Camry base, and am going to drive 2012 Accord LX, and Civic LX sedans to compare. I bought the Camry spur of the moment, good deal. Was always more of a Honda person, as well. Minivans tend to get overloaded and abused and this was the cause of much of this. Still, for Honda, it was unacceptable. Sorry; I'm a Honda guy but I'm not buying the "overloaded" bit. I understand what you are saying. It is just enough difference to make a difference for me. LX - 39.1" headroom vs EX-L 37.4. There is a way to do it. You have to remove the center console to access it. If you search on-line for instructions on how to replace the radio in a 1996 Honda, it's essentially the same steps. Its all relative, as you allude to. I have a 1996 Accord w/130 hp (old SAE net, under new procedures, it'd likely be 125 or so) at 2900lbs. In comparison with my 2006 Accord w/166hp and 3200 lbs, my newer Accord feels downright "fast", and not at all like the "slow version" of the Accord; something that I sure can't say about the 1996, which is adequate, if not quick.

Also how often must the timing belt be changed. For the 4-cylinder, every 105k miles. For the V6, I want to say 60k, but I could be wrong on this one. I'm positive about the 4-cyl though. Any automatic I have driven, from a 3.8L 2001 Mustang to a Lexus GX470 or an Audi 1.8 Cabriolet (8 miles on it, it had the CVT) have drifted back if on an incline. I feel for people who have little knowledge about cars, and are at the mercy of repair shops. Unfortunately many repair shops guess what is causing the problem, and throw parts at it. Thanks elroy. Now that you mentioned it, I do feel something at the brake pedal. Would you suggest I get an opinion from a transmission specialist or take it to the dealership or both?
It could be the transmission. If you brake, and the transmission refuses to downshift, it could cause a lot of shaking. A sign of this would be if the rpm goes down really low even at higher speeds. Do you feel the transmission downshifting? Warped brake rotors can cause vibration also. Do you feel anything at the brake pedal? Engine/transmission mounts can cause some serious shaking, but it would shake even ... Read More

Probably caused by the Brake Pedal Position Switch (located near the brake pedal arm). This switch also activates the brake lights, so if the brake lights are not working right, the switch is the problem. Do a search on the internet (i.e. e-Bay.com, etc.). I love my 1996 Honda Accord. Had an inital problem with a CEL but that has been resolved for months. I put a new exhaust syatem in and front axles and the car is running like new! I paid $1700.00 and put $800 into it. I think it was well worth it. Good Luck! :D
If things are put in the right order, then I think this discussion about look-alikes makes sense. So, let me ask you, what connotations of 5-series do you see in the Accord that you haven’t in any Honda/Acura in the past? As for Saturn L, let us take your word and park them side by side. There are few design elements in common, the creases and the upward tapering of the ... Read More
I think the definition of Korean copy is more along the lines of copying the look. For example, take the new Elantra. Do you see a strong resemblance to VW Jetta’s rear? Or, is that style somehow an evolution of older Hyundai design? In case of new Accord, the association is largely with two design elements. One the upward tapering of the tail lamps, but that is a contemporary design feature. ... Read More
That may be Honda’s grade logic at work. The transmission selects a lower gear on an incline. In my 1998 Accord (and TL), the only way to tell that it did is to keep an eye on the tachometer. On level streets, the transition seems to happen around 40 mph, Hondas don’t seem to use the top gear until past 35-40 mph (I find that interesting, and was going to discuss ... Read More
Depends on the person and their commute, as elroy pointed out. My 1996 Honda ran 130k on its ORIGINAL front pads. It has 175k on the rear brake shoes, as they are still original.
Maybe you guys remember me posting pictures from being clipped on the interstate over the summer. Did a nice sum of damage, and I got my car back not too long ago (maybe 1,000 miles?). Well, I got rear-ended today, once again, in my 1996 Accord. That brings the total number of incidents (none of which I caused or was found at fault for) to FIVE in that car. None in ... Read More
Well, the same problems would occur if the belt snaps, but the belts are made to last longer now. Happily, I have an I4 06 Accord and don't have to worry about that anymore on the new car. My 1996 will be due for its 2nd replacement coming up soon at 178k miles (I have 175k now; the belt was last changed at 88k).
I think 105k is the recommended belt change interval for the Warm, Sunny Places like CA, whereas 60k is the typical change interval for the Cold, Dark Places like MN. In the Honda manual (my 1996 Accord LX 4-cylinder anyways), it says if you regularly drive in conditions under -20F or over 110F, to get the belt changed at 60k. Personally, I don't know anywhere in the US that has those ... Read More
I didn't see it (or pay attention, anyway). I'm not old enough to buy into the reputation stuff (20). I have a 1996 Accord that has been a good car, and my 2006 has proven to be so far as well. I know I've stated it many times, but for the sake of this forum I'll say it again. I sought out some major things in this order: Handling/Ride Interior Style/Quality/Comfort ... Read More
I'd be happy to do it! Remember, I am nit-picky about interiors, so take this with a grain of salt. 1.) Fan speed knob - the fan speed knob in both vehicles I sat in was very loose, with lots of "play" in it. It didn't feel like a quality piece like the 2007s and previous models do. 2.) Buttons/switches - much harder to press. Harder, more hollow feeling. If you ... Read More
It's of my 1996 Accord cranking. I know it is dark; sorry! I took it with my digital camera. 1996 Honda Accord My Accord runs smoothly, with no mechanical problems. Not bad for 175k miles. The video was originally a lot longer but my camera battery died during the upload! I'll try and get a few more later!
