With a standard 271-hp six-cylinder engine and a five-speed automatic transmission, the Crosstour is rarely at a loss for passing or merging. Available all-wheel drive adds all-weather capability rather than sporty performance.
Steering is quick and confident, but softly sprung suspension and hard tires do not make for a thrilling handler. Ultimate grip is modest. Standard (defeatable) stability control does a good job keeping things in check.
The Crosstour's ride has a touch of old-school SUV in it: a bit stiff-legged and slightly busy on less-than-smooth surfaces. The springs are soft but the damping and control of the shocks isn't quite in sync. Suspension could 'breathe' better.
The Crosstour is generally quiet, but the standard all-season tires do have a tendency to transmit both the profile and grain of certain surfaces they encounter.
It's obvious Honda went to great pains to clearly label large buttons and switches, but their layout and number can be rather intimidating, especially in the top-tier model with navigation. Honda interiors, while plain, remain ergonomically sound.
Even with the optional back-up camera (included only on 'navi' models), outward visibility remains a challenge due to the Crosstour's unique fastback shape and high beltline. Perimeter cameras and blind-spot monitors are not currently available.
Seat Access & Space
Generous seating dimensions for both rows include supportive, almost sporty seats. Large doors allow easy access.
Cargo & Storage
With all seats occupied, there are nearly 26 cu-ft of luggage space. Folding the rear seats forward with conveniently located release levers nearly doubles total cargo capacity.
Honda maintains its reputation for above-average build and paint-quality in the Crosstour.
Rated at just 1,500 pounds, the Crosstour is below average for V6-powered crossovers and/or SUVs.
With greater ground clearance than an Accord sedan, and all-wheel drive that you can't get on a sedan, the Crosstour offers a viable soft-road or winter-wagon alternative to traditional SUVs and even some other less capable crossovers.
