I recently returned from being out of the country for two years and the idea of buying a car didn't seem too difficult. For weeks I searched for the right one, but after about a month I couldn't take being deceived by online private party ads. Apparently my definition of "good" and "excellent" condition isn't the same as most people's! I found a deal listed on a local site for a Civic at a dealership and checked Edmunds TMV and as the car was priced it was already about 600 lower than the TMV (not including fees). I read the used car buying guide and went over to inspect everything at the dealership. After all was said and done, the base price of my Civic was 5585, the dealer TMV being about 6800. All required 100,000 mile maintenance was done (timing belt, etc...) as well as a touch up and detail on the car. After all was said and done, my out the door price was 6400, still ~400 below the TMV dealer base price. I couldn't be happier! It took me a bit longer than I wanted, but I got a great car for college in wonderful condition for a killer deal! Thank you very much Edmunds for your research and customer service!

I have been using your website for the past couple months, First, to view the 2008 MB C-class before they were introduced to the US, and also to get actual feedback on the vehicle's performance. Secondly, to view your finance and buying tips, payment calculator and the other available tools you provide customers on helping them decide to purchase or lease a new vehicle.
I am pleased to say, that I was able to get my car below invoice from a Mercedes dealership and I didn't even have to go in and haggle over pricing. I got the price down by $1700 and then to invoice before walking into a dealer. I also didn't have to spend mush time on the phone or use a whole bunch of emails.
I was armed with knowledge and confidence in that I knew exactly what I wanted and what to expect. You guys were awesome and I'd like to say thanks! My car is now being made to order just the way I want it :) [no matter how simple] and I am happy!

Hi Edmunds! I just want to send a "thank you" for your amazing website. I really did A LOT of research before buying my next car and your site was, by far, one of the most useful. I appreciated reading your expert and customer reviews and spent an invaluable amount of time reading through the customer forums (and eventually I joined and posted my questions). After narrowing my search, I focused on the VW Rabbit AT 4-dr. and the Honda Fit Sport AT. Eventually, I decided on a 2008 Fit Sport AT and, using your TMV tool, was able to see what others were paying (MSRP unfortunately b/c there aren't enough out on the market). I was unable to get the most competitive dealer to budge on MSRP, and I needed the car this week so made the deal today. Still, I don't feel so bad settling for MSRP (and no options) thanks to your TMV service. So, thanks again for the great website!

I can't imagine anyone buying a car before coming to the Edmunds web site. I went to the Toyota dealer knowing exactly how much I was going to pay for the car, how much my trade-in would be worth, how much and at what percentage my financing would be, tax/title, etc. all figured in and I knew how much my payments would be! All this because of your thoughtful and comprehensive web site. I went in ready to negotiate with confidence. Believe me, I am telling everyone I know that they should not even think about buying a car until they have done their homework at Edmunds.

WOW!!!! I want to thank Edmunds.com, it's insightful articles and it's TMV tool. You saved me $3500 on my new '07 ridgeline. What a deal. It's going to be a long one but let me tell you the story. After a long vacation, my wife and I, were ready to buy our new vehicle. So we decided go look at some of the vehicles that was on my list. We weren't thinking of buying b/c i really didn't do any price research on them. But when we were at the Honda dealer, after driving the Honda Ridgeline, i wanted to see how much it would cost. Went inside the dealer and let the salesman punch the numbers in. It was also my birthday and my wife wanted to get the truck as a b-day gift for me. With those emotions and seeing that the salesman was willing to sell the car $2000 below MSRP ($28,995), we wanted to buy the truck that day. Lucky for us, we wanted the truck in black and the dealer didn't have it in stock. So they looked it up and found one nearby on another dealer. But that dealer's manager was out that day so they were not able to secure the car and get us to sign any contracts (no VIN numbers). So we gave a $500 deposit for them to secure the vehicle the next day. Again, froogle that I am, I wanted to double check the number and came to Edmunds.com. The TMV said that it should be $23,750. So I requested several quotes from other dealers thru Edmunds. The very next morning, I called the dealer and said we can't buy the vehicle with that price. They asked my how much I was willing to pay and I said $24,000 (still wasn't sure if the TMV tool was accurate) and few seconds of going back to his manager, the salesman agreed to the price with no questions asked. My jaw dropped. When I was shopping around, I lowered the price all the way to $23,495 with several free oil changes and inspections thru another dealer. I was able to get my money back from the first dealer and went and bought the vehicle thru the other dealer that is also much closer to home. Sorry for the length of the story, but I am very excited and grateful that Edmunds saved me so much money ($3,505 to be exact)! The next best true market value price I received on another site was $25,500. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I just wanted to say thank you for providing defendable pricing guidance for buying cars. We just bought a used car from a dealer at about $140 above the TMV price, which was about $1500 below the dealer's asking price. Thank you very much!

Just wanted to thank you guys and gals for all of the information you have placed at my finger tips. I did countless hours of research during my quest for a new midsize SUV and a newer used sedan.
I found your site an invaluable tool. We decided to purchase the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS AWD with added floor mats, cargo tray, and mud guards. Not only did I know what the dealer paid for the car, I new what they should be charging us. I also understood all specs and ratings on the vehicle.
My next step was the dealer quote option which was AWESOME!!! Our local dealer wanted 24,500 as their best price for the new SUV without the $1000 dealer incentive. I brought with me the price quotes I received from the competition in a 30 mile radius. We left with a purchase price of 22,990 and the 3.9% 60 month financing. It couldn't have done it without you.
The second thing we did was trade in two vehicles to buy a used sedan. The dealer initially offered us 1000 less than what you said my wife's car was worth. When I showed him your quote... he relented.
In summation... thank you so much.

I recently purchased a 2007 VW Jetta Wolfsburg. I wanted to share what I paid for it…I was able to purchase my vehicle for Invoice + 2%. This was very no haggle and just walked right in and essentially bought the car. I was also able to get $300 less than kbb.com for my trade, while Edmunds.com invoice price was accurate for the calculations. Thanks for your site as it was VERY beneficial to my purchase.

I just wanted to thank y'all so much! I got an incredible deal on my new 2007 Nissan Titan SE King Cab. I printed up the TMV sheet and brought it with me to the dealership and told them I'm not paying a penny more. They said OK when my Salesman showed the Sales Manager what I was working with. First, the data on your website is fantastic. I don't know how you get your TMV data, but for the 2007 Honda Odyssey EX-L with rear DVD entertainment system I have found your TMV reports to be very high. I live in zip code 19067 and received quotes from at least 4 dealers that range from -$300 below invoice to +$200 above invoice. Compared to your TMV data this is quite a savings. I brought my best quote to my dealer of choice and got the vehicle for -$350 below dealer invoice (per your website) plus I they added mud guards, wheel locks, pinstripe and security etching for an additional $179 (which is probably equivalent to the dealer cost for these items).
