Is that consistent with your own description of how you have serviced your car? Pretty much. I actually read the owner's manual on the van before I bought it to try to avoid any excessive maintenance requirements. My next car is going to have the hood welded shut. ;)

Somewhere I got the impression that frequently adding oil was a good idea; your comment about "refreshing" the additive pack I think. In a bit of irony for all of those you can find complaining in here, it is in fact a good thing! I think oil is pretty good these days and there's no need to do an analysis unless you suspect issues or you are an oil change hobbyist. ... Read More

Bugging you, and being "broken and needing repaired" are two completely different situations. I have a '99 minivan that does a lot of the 5 mile trips, with a road trip thrown in every few months. 2 quarts per 1200 miles would drive me crazy. Occasionally I'll have to add a half quart between 5,000 mile changes on my '97 Subaru and that bugs me. Not only is in in fact normal for engines to use oil, it actually has a bright side! The additional oil replenishes additives that would by use normally wear out. I know you approximated your oil useage, and consider it excessive. Are you experiencing any failure of the spark plugs causing misfires? Do you have visible smoke from the tailpipe? Your situation is not an indiction that anything is wrong, and that's the point I'm really trying to make. You will still need to change the oil and filter when it's due. Plus you need to regularly check and add oil as required. What you will find is the engine is not in any kind of trouble from this and will perform just fine. Make sure you are using the correct ... Dear Beasst, Since this problem obviously doesn't effect you why would you bother wasting your time (unless your time is of no value) with that long rambling? An engine that is consuming an excessive amount of oil often needs to be replaced. Beasst, Just to let you know. I had to go through the deflector, it does not work. They also replaced the PVC at the same time. Then they replace my heads, then they finally replace my rings and that worked, but I now have smoke come out of the tailpipe, but it does not use oil. Crazy. notnormal, Very good advice; reporting the concern to GM also helps us track the concerns. Yes having the work done at the dealer leaves a paper trail with what work has been done, but it doesn't officially report the concern. The best thing I did was contact GM directly. They then worked with the daealer who found bulletin # 10-06-01-008B that applied to the problem. They added an oil deflector, and we will check the consumption again in 1000 miles. No idea why the dealer didn't contact GM the first 12 times I brought it in. Hi, Your only solution is going to the dealer and have reprogram your keyless entry modulo...I had a problem like it with mine XL'07 Denali(actually has 214 K miles) and I was charge $128 for reprogram the modulo(and if you like your remote starter and unlock and lock your car in the middle of winter)is well worth it.

I can tell you that if the oil consumption is 1qt or more for every 1K miles, it is not considered normal. As a matter of fact there are service bulletins that even show you this. Sounds a little different then my issue, as my issue was clearly explained, after much trouble shooting. I did have the same sequence of errors, yet mine problem was belt tensioner bouncing and dragging on the crank. "Called tech-line. Tech-line said to remove serpentine belt and reset. Sure enough misfires are gone. Cause is belt tensioner bouncing and dragging on the crank. Tech-line said to replace belt and tensioner. Replaced belt ... Read More

I think I am going to go to the dealer this week and try to negotiate on the purchase of a new suburban (not likely to have an oil leak). I may get a deal that works -which would be great, or at least I will then know what the new trade in value (damage to the value) is. Might come in handy later.

According to #01-06-01-011F: Information on Engine Oil Consumption Guidelines (Jan13,2009) - the GM accepted rate of oil consumption for engines in cars and trucks (less than 8500 LB GVW) is one quart per 2000 miles. There are exeptions for non-agressive driving, towing, high RPMs, maintenance.... 2 quarts in 600-700 miles, I thought, would be a no-brainer qualification for a drastic fix for my suburban. If it makes you feel better, I have a GM Certified 2008 Suburban LTZ that has the same problem at 34K miles. Brought it in to the dealer due to a rough idle, only to find out that it had oil in the #1 cylinder that foulded the plug. Mariah, I am experiencing the same problem. My last two oil changes are requiring 2 - 3 quarts of oil to be added before 5000 miles and before the computer oil life reaches the "change" level. I am not aware of an official Service Bulletin on this issue however I do not receive all the bulletins that are sent to service departments. There are published Engine Oil Consumption Guidelines and specific instructions to dealerships on how to properly inspect for excessive consumption and how to properly measure consumption over time. Update: There was a change in procedure to fix the oil consumption issue on my Yukon XL 2007. The Dealer/GM recommended to replace the engine instead of the valve cover and ring job. I picked up my vehicle on Wednesday. So far so good. I hope this fixes that problem and I do not continue to see any others.

I will not get my vehicle back until Wednesday of next week. I will post the exact work done and I will follow up with results. Although, I am pleased that "alot of work" is being done to my Yukon to correct this oil consumption issue... I wonder what impact this "engine overhaul" will have on life line of my vehicle?

FYI Evertibe, They have just completed a replacement of Pistons, Rings, and Rod Barings. I am not sure if this will work but I will let you know if it does not. Unfortunately my windshield was broken during the being put back in and the bumper was damaged, so I am waiting to get those fixed by the dealer. I will let you know what happens. Hoping this work.

Dealer has been reluctant to confirm that it has an issue, but has replaced Right Valve cover in February of this year. This did not resolve the issue.
