EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:
Overall
A best in class truck in nearly every respect, the GMC Sierra is a full-size truck with few faults.
DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS
Dynamics
Engines are strong, suspension delivers precise handling, brakes are touchy but strong.
Comfort
One of the quietest trucks on the road. Seats don't look like much, but remain comfortable over the long haul. Rear seat passenger space is about average. Driving position is generally good, but the guages are sligthly offset from the driver's seat which can be annoying to some drivers.
Function
Although there are two different dash designs, both have logical control layouts. Interior storage is about average for a full-size truck with the small glovebox the only drawback.
Design/Build Quality
We prefer the Sierra's exterior design to its Silverado sibling. Interior design of base models is simple and straightforward. Top of the line dash is more like a luxury SUV. Panel fit on all trucks is excellent.
Towing Capable
The Sierra boasts some of the highest tow ratings in the class. Top of the line 6.0-liter V8 is also one of the strongest V8s available in the half ton class.
Cargo Hauler
Three bed lengths are available. Crew cabs offer additional cargo space in the cab with the seats folded.
Comfortable
Excellent seats and a forgiving ride make the Sierra one of the more comfortable full size trucks on the market.
Off-Road Ready
Optional $325 locking rear differential turns even two wheel drive trucks into capable off roaders. Z71 suspension package adds even more capability for those who want serious capability.
