is my sierra safe to drive with no rear drive shaft?

My brother in law got my truck, a 2000 gmc sierra 1500 z71,stuck in a mudhole - a few weeks later the rear pinion snapped and the rear differential gears, driveshaft were removed, as we were told that we could drive the truck in 2wd without it. I have a similar problem. If my 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 does not start on the first turn of the ignition then it will not start for exactly ten minutes. It has happened lots of times, so I have had a chance to check the time. If I try to start the truck before the ten minutes is up, it just cranks and nothing happens. I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 2wd extended cab with 5.3L v8 that now has 194K miles on it. I routinely get 18 mpg here in Tulsa, OK area driving 30 miles one way to work. On the highway on long trips I have gotten above 20 mpg consistantly. had same prob on 96' gmc sierra, slid the bed back about 2ft after unbolting it(four on each side) and disconeccting two grounds, after that, piece of cake. make sure you replace wiring. usually what goes bad. Read More...

If we don,t complain, we will not get any help. I have just replaced all the brake lines on my 2002 GMC 1500 pickup with 110,000 miles. Its is not right that these lines are rusting out so quickly. As with the recall of the rotor sensors GM has made another desiscion to same a buck at our expense by using cheap tubing on the brake lines, with the sensor recall, GM refunded ... Read More...

I am new to this forum but I have just experienced the "rusty" brake line problems that others have mentioned. I had one brake line rust out causing brake failure, the dealer says all four lines need to be replaced as the are also rusty. I urge everyone that has a GM truck with rusted brake lines to goto http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/gm_chev_1500.html and file a complaint. Consumer Affairs will evaluate and see if a class action suite is in order. Make it happen complain now! Read More...
