I have my truck almost a year ago. I got it with 162,000 on it. This is probly the best alround truck GM has ever made. Mine came with the 4.3 V6 and 5 spd standard and i love engine and plan to a keep the 4.3 for when i do the build up on it. The paint the flawless even for being 16 years old I still have yet to see another truck this color? Its a teal green with metal flake. Its beautiful. Ill never get rid of this truck

Favorite Features

The stepside is a one of a kind in these trucks. The functionality of them and the versatility.

Suggested Improvements

The only complaint is its really hard finding wheels for this truck. The five lug pattern is very uncommon i found out.

I've owned this truck for 3 years and love it. I rebuilt engine 10000 ago and runs good most of time. I haul 2200 pounds of brake rotors in the box once a month and hauls it like a dream. Pulled stock car for years before I bought and drove good

Favorite Features

Interior is well put together. Reliable. Nice bodystyle. Tough truck all around

Suggested Improvements

350 have a little more than 175 hp stock and get better that 12 mpg highway

My wife's uncle bought this brand new in 1993, so when he said he was selling his blue on blue GMC, I said sold. When I bought it from him in 06 it had 137,000. I drive it everyday and just about to hit 150,000 miles. Only thing I have had to replace was the tiger paw tires ( sounds like everyone else did too ) and 3 out of the 4 brake lines. The truck has held up very well and due to my wife's uncle passing this year the truck has a lot of sentimental value as well.

Favorite Features

Comfortable bench seat, tilt steering, cold A/C, sliding rear window, 8 foot bed.

Suggested Improvements

I have no complaints

Review

This was, and still is my first vehicle. 291,000. Replaced rear end, alt, fuel pump 2x, both fuel injectors, 2 electric ignition components, ig switch, & will either rebuild or replace trans for the second time. I bought it with the bed cap (leer). I can say if I have to give up my truck for any reason, I wont be happy. She's served me for 4 years and well over 100,000. Bought used. The paint on the roof is peeling, working on it isnt always fun, rather drive, but I wont trade it for the world. Handles well. Only got stuck once. Being a small guy, I can work in the engine compartment. Smoother & quieter ride than 01 trailblazer and 97 c15 5.0 silverado sb

Favorite Features

Spacious cargo/engine/psgr. Compartments. Less extensive computer modules than later models. Under hood drop light. Big mirrors.

Suggested Improvements

Ext. Fuel pump. Rear pillar speakers easier to access, better paint, lit wind/lock &a/c controls, larger glove cmpt, rear sway bar. Dual exhaust. All minor.

Review

I bought my GMC truck in 95 with 49,000 miles and now have 224,000 miles with original engine and trans. Replaced common things such as starter (ac delco), alternator, compressor (to 134), and general tune up's. It's been an incredible vehicle and would recommend buying one kept in good condition because it will last a lifetime if taken care of.

Favorite Features

Tilt comfort.

Suggested Improvements

Didn't like original tires.

I got this truck with 134,000miles and had it for almost 4 years, from age 16 to 20. When I got the truck, it was close to perfect, and throught the years I put a lot of money in it, but not because it tore up. I fixed it up and customized it in every way possible but not once did it ever have a major mechanical problem, just the normal things like alternator, water pump, and some electronic thing on the throttlebody. I do recommend that if you have this truck and get around 10-12 mpg that you free up the exhaust a lot. I got 15-16 mpg after running true duals with two glasspacks. My truck had 195,000 miles on it when it got totaled. Original engine and transmission, never been touched, and still drove like new

Favorite Features

350 power, nice interior, fast, incredible torque. Overall quality is great.

Suggested Improvements

No more plastic dashes.

I have had this truck since new and have 230,000 miles on it. I have had to replace the alternator, water pump, starter, fuel pump, and ac blower motor. All repairs are easily done by a dyi mechanic with simple tools. The engine and transmission are still going although the transmission is slipping a little now. I ran Mobile One 5W-30 in it until recently. I couldn't ask for more from a truck that has had to work as well as play.

Favorite Features

The tilt steering and seat comfort. Lots of room in the cab. Long wheel base lets me carry full sheets of plywood with the tailgate closed.

Suggested Improvements

The Tiger Paw tires that came on it were not very good in my opinion, I have been running with Michelin truck tires and wouldn't put anything elso on it.

Review

This is the best truck anyone I know has ever had. 214,000 miles with only a water pump (100k), alternator(180K), a few brake shoes, and NEVER had a mechanic tune it up,although I changed plugs and wires 2-3 times. Forget your great uncle's 5 digit odometer thats "turned over" 4x's since last July 4th on his straight six, and buy one of these classic 5.7's next time you find a decent looking one. This thing may last forever. I know Fords that have gone through more tranny overhauls than I've needed new batteries.

Favorite Features

Superb off-road capabilities with 350 and 2WD,lots of room for a regular cab, headlights haven't burned out in 11 years of driving nights, nice shape, easy to perform minor repairs for the do- it- yourselfer, complete and utterly reliablke for 11 years.

Suggested Improvements

Start building these trucks again!!

Review

With over 200,000 miles on this truck from new I think I'm qualified to tell you this vehicle is one of the best I've owned. Preventive maintenance from new and all synthetic fluids in all major components keep it running like new. No problems EVER with the 4L60E transmission, the NP transfer case (Shockproof Redline ATF used) and the motor just keeps going.

Favorite Features

Love the 14 bolt posi rear end on this thing. Interior components tough and durable. With two kids and many long distance cross country trips, the headliner, seats and plastic still looks like new. I clean it regularly.

Suggested Improvements

Stereo with cassette in separate place in dash is not well thought out. Switch gear on door is not ergonomically located as another reviewer has stated.
