Chuck1, Congrats on being a satisfied owner. Throwing sales stats out just makes you look like a GM troll. Knock it off. There are known issues with these trucks, and like several others on here, we are not satisfied with GM's engineering, or their lack of response to the problem. I am just going out on a limb to guess you have not bought 7 new GMC trucks since 2004. I ... Read More
It is interesting that this many people are experiencing this corrosion problem. I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 HD. I Have had brake and the serious rusting problems on the frame and suspension. I first noticed it about 2 years ago. I thought the rusting was a bit excessive as the truck now only has 58000 miles. I sprayed paint on it then and have been watching it. . I ... Read More
I have an '03 Duramax and am concerned about this brake line failure especially with the extra weight of this truck.. Do most of these failures occur in states that use or used salt on icey roads?
You also need to watch the front left brake line where it mounts near the frame above the axle. Mine rusted and let loose suddenly, and luckily there was room on the should to avoid rear ending a tractor trailer. I have an 03 and it failed in 08, with less than 50K miles. NHTSA is doing some investigation on it as I reported it to them. Thanks for the tip ... Read More
same with our 2006 sierra..... agreed. g
I have to replace the rear right brake line on my 2004 Sierra it failed at low speed, thank god for the emergency brake. It rusted out on top of the rear axle, what gives? I drove a 1950 chev truck until the 80's and nothing rusted out like this. They can't build brakes that last more than 5 years? Scary, and everyone is worried about Toyota? I'm scared to drive ... My 2004 Sierra fan switch was erratic then failed completely, fuse was ok. I removed the heater control panel and the back of the switch was melted. The fan was ok but seemed to be slightly stiff when spun by hand, so I replaced the motor and the fan control switch and everything is fine. My 91 GMC had a dashboard fire caused by a melted connector in the heater fan ... Read More
I disconnected my battery for about 10 hrs. After reconnecting it my factory alarm went off like it did previous times in the middle of the nite. Took about 1 hr after being reconnected before it went off again. Anybody know who to contact about a factory alarm. GMC dealers want $100 to check it out. Trying to save some money if it is something simple.
disconnedted battery for a few minutes, it must have reset.try e-mail the alarm company and ask them, they usually try to help???
I have a 2003 2500 Sierra with factory alarm thatbis going off in the middle of the nigh. I was wondering if you ever came up with a solution to your problem.
Hi- Did you get any aftermarket add-ons or did you get another alarm to supplement the factory? If you did, most of them don't work well with GM vehicles. I went and had a Viper put in instead of the Factory. Much better protection.
You Need an Exorcist.
I have a 2004 2500 Sierra with a factory alarm. I live in the San DIego Area. The alarm has been going off about every other night between 12:30am and 2:30 am. I watched several nights just to see if someone was tampering with the truck but nothing like that. It's parked in the driveway and just goes off. Anyone have any similar experiences with alarms going off for no apparant ... Read More
One is located on the front differental housing, this is the easy one to replace. The second one is located the transfer case, (Transfer Case Encoder Motor) this one you must drop the front drive shaft to replace. http://stores.channeladvisor.com/Auto-Parts-Direct-To-You/GMC/Sierra%201500%2c25- 00%2c3500/
You Say Thair Is (2) Actuators. Where AreThay Located? I Only Found 1
The transfer case actuator that engages the 4wd is working? You replaced the actuator on the front differental housing? There are (2) actuators! The blinking light should go from blinking to solid, I assume that is what is happening? Did you reset the computer defalt after installing the new acturator? If not try that! (3) quick on and off turns of the ignition switch, then start it.
I recently purchased an 04 GMC Sierra 2500 that was rolled over, after replacing the roof and other body damage (no damage to the front, rear or under carriage) I tried to engage the 4 wheel drive, the blinking lights tells me that it is engaged in 4 wheel drive. I hear it engaging in the transfer case, but the front axles do not engage. I purchased an actuator and installed ... Read More
My 2004 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4 x 4 loses power when my transmission temp gets between 180-200 degrees. It only gets hot on the hot summer days or when I tow my boat. There is an unusual noise(higher RPM?) in the transmission when I take off after sitting a controlled intersection. I get my vehicle serviced on a regular basis. I have yet to take it into a dealer..any ideas?
I have a follow up to my previous posting, # 688, as noted at the end of that posting, but not in the Title, I am looking for advice on what to do for an extended Warranty. One option I didn't outline, but am considering, is to get a shorter term such as 3 years / 36K miles just to get me through the first couple of years but with the ... Read More
