So i have a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 step-side. This thing will not start if it sitting more than 8 hours in the rain. When it is running it seems like it misses when its first taking off until it picks up speed. Doesn't do it when its just idling, only when I am first starting to go. I've already replaced the plugs, distributor cap, rotor bug, coil, and ignition module. ... Read More
Thanks biga4! I was having the same problem with my 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 4.8LTR V-8 you described in your post. you sure you swapped in a good MAF? does it idle rough in neutral or only while in gear/rolling? if rough idle in neutral, does it smooth out when you remove oil filler cap? if yes, maybe intake manifold gaskets & RTV-sealant? (even a good MAF can't adjust for an intake leak?) these are longshot ideas from an earlier GM V8s, maybe not relevant to your 5.3, but just in case... ... Read More

Can anyone tell me where the knock sensor is located on a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500, 5.3 and is it easily replaced? The dealer checked the code for the "service engine soon" light and said it is bad and will eventually cause it not to start. I lost my repair manual for the truck. Thanks!
My brother in law got my truck, a 2000 gmc sierra 1500 z71,stuck in a mudhole - a few weeks later the rear pinion snapped and the rear differential gears, driveshaft were removed, as we were told that we could drive the truck in 2wd without it.
