  • Re: adding seats to Express or Savana van [fuld]

I got my seat and After-market belts from the same shop. I only had the choice to buy after market belts for the 2001 Express. I am sounding like a broken record but the retractor part of the belt is not for my year and I either have to go to a salvage yard to get a part of a later year Express to mount the retractor of the belt or ... sparky55, Did you find an answer to your problem? I have a 2001 Chevy Express & am having a simular problem. LAST MARCH I GOT A GREAT DEAL ON A 2001 GMC SAVANA CONVERSION VAN. AS OF THIS MONTH I HAVE TRAVELLED ONLY 9000 MILES. IT IS ABOUT 50/50 HWY/CITY MILES. DOES THIS TYPE OF INACTIVITY CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS OR SHOULD I TAKE ANY PRECAUTIONS. IT RUNS GREAT AND WE LOVE IT, WE JUST DON'T NEED TO DRIVE IT THAT OFTEN.

  • Tranny

Just crossed 50,000 mile mark with my 2001 GMC 3500 extended. Transmission feels like it did when new. So does the rest of the van - no rattles. My prior 1997 GMC 1500 was starting to chew through its second tranny at the 50,000 mark, and as I posted previously, I was on my third transmission when I sold it. On another subject: is it just me or does anyone else ... Read More

  • Stay with factory originals

Written by: xfiles on Dec 6, 2002 9:07:00 PM

Unless the GMC shocks are very expensive, I would stay with them. I have found in the past that aftermarket shocks do not give as a good a ride. I bought shocks before (can't remember off hand the name of them) at Pep Boys and loved the lifetime warranty. Then I got fed up and purchased some from Toyota because I got tired of the rough ride whenever temperatures dropped. Went ... Read More

The full article can be found at..... www.motortrend.com/news/stories/020306fl.html For 2002 the 4L80E remained unchanged for the heavy duty version. Why would they change it after a major upgrade in 2001 (torque converter), then go back to it in 2003. _______________________________________________ First Look: 2003 Chevy Express and GMC Savana March 6, 2002 When GM engineers embarked on redesigning the 2003 Chevy Express and GMC Savana full-size vans the mission was clear: deliver ... • Vibration

Written by: xfiles on May 8, 2002 5:57:34 PM

I have the 2001 factory shop manuals from GMC for the Savana van. I took a look under "vibration diagnosis and correction" and found many different tables that list the steps to narrow down to a specific problem. There were tests for tire and wheel, driveline, hub/axle, engine balance, accessory isolation, etc. It then lists types of vibration symptoms like shake, roughness, buzz, tingling, moan or droan, whine, etc. My point ... • GMC vs FORD

Written by: xfiles on Oct 5, 2001 9:30:23 PM

Making a general comment that Fords are better, only because your dissatisfied with the brakes and alignment is insufficient evidence for a comment like that. Yes, others have complained in edmunds about the short life of brake pads, and in 2001 this was one of 5 upgrades GMC made (longer brake life). Tires now for 2001 used are Michelin, not Firestone....perhaps that solves that problem. An axle seal leaking could happen ... Read More
