ahealy, I have a 2005 Safari AWD with 60k miles. I had the same problem. Mine felt like my jeep in 4wd turning on pavement. Also, my Safari would not idle forward unless the wheels were straight. This is a reply to a very old post (May 2005): "My 2000 GMC Safari has a problem where the dome light flickers on and off. Typically during a turn and more often when its raining. I have a 2005 GMC Safari passenger van and I preveiously had a '93 GMC Safari conversion van, so, I am familiar with the vehicles. My problem is that this '05 gets horrible gas mileage, about 12 mpg city or highway. 1998 GMC safari van. The drivers side power window stalls when trying to close. Can not determine if the problem is the motor or switch or switch relay. I took off the door panel to expose the motor and found it seems to be rivited to the inner door pannel. The rivets look strange. They dont appear to be a fastener that can be unbolted. Hi I had a 2000 AWD Safari and just traded it in on an order out Red/Tan 2003 AWD Astro. The 2003 Chev Astros and GMC Safaris are Clones: same price, same features, same colors. Best buy is who has the best price. They are made on the same Baltimore assembly line, just depends on what day it is. Differences are grille trim and some labels/badges. They are going to make ...
