I believe I've got the same problem on my Safari 2002 AWD. One mechanic said that he thinks it has to do with a clutch-type plate in the rear differential which is slipping, creating a kind of thumping under acceleration and even deceleration. I'm just a fellow Astro owner as well and have a suggestion. Check to see if you have headlights. If not, follow the positive wire that runs from the positive terminal back to the firewall; remove plastic cap and check for power. If ok continue past the in-line fusable links and check for power. Van (2002 GMC Safari) acting as if there is no battery

My van is acting as if there is no battery, I stick the key in the ignition and it freely rotates from ACC all the way to start, but there is no reaction from the van--no dome lights, no dash lights, no starter...NOTHING. I have had a '92 and now a '95 GMC Safari and this happened to both. On mine it was the fan relay switch located on the firewall inside the engine compartment above the blower housing on the passenger side. Go to your favorite parts store and have them show you which of the 2 relays mounted side by side it is. And it's cheap and easy to replace. The one I got for the '95 was ... Read More...

Okay yes the thermostat was stuck open when i took it apart, so i replaced it. Now i can see on the temp gauge when it opens and closes again. I am pretty sure i have an air lock in the system, blows room temp at idle and nice and hot as soon as you get going a little bit. Been trying to burp the system but i just cant get the damn air lock out. Any suggestions its a 2002 GMC Safari. Read More...

The pneumatic Air Damper Line broke on my 2002 GMC Safari. I found one end of it that looks like it comes from the air damper power unit but i can't find the other end. I know the line must come from some sort of air compressor but i can't find it. Does anyone know where it would be? The broken line has made it so the air will only come out of the defrost vents. Thanks for your concern.... For your records, there's a known problem with the ABS system on the Astro/Safari vans. There's an official TSB but NO recall. Still amazes me why no formal recall.
