For early 1995 and older leaf spring conversion kits, surf: http://www.stengelbros.com/SteelReplacementSprings.htm For 1999 AWD, one can install +1 leaf (mid length leaf) in the ... Read More...

GMC Safari/Astro p0300 missing at 55mph
Hi everyone, I am having a problem with my 2001 Safari Van. I keep getting the p0300 engine code. I can feel the engine is missing but this is only evident once I get to about 55mph or faster and I maintain a constant speed. Once I feel the engine missing, I can accellerate and the miss disappears. I have replaced the distributor, distributor cap, ignition wires, spark ... Read More...

Re: P1870 [jouls]
A few years back, I got the transmisison rebuilt in my 2001 AWD Safari van. Before taxes, it cost $1,200 - canadian dollars. Not too sure how much they charge in your specific region. Might be worth calling a few tranny shops in your area. If wondering, my van lost 2nd and "R" gears. It only has 1st and 3rd. Thus, completed removal and rebuild - with a special kit. Your ... Re: Brake and ABS lights. [egillett]
Thanks for your concern.... For your records, there's a known problem with the ABS system on the Astro/Safari vans. There's an official TSB but NO recall. Still amazes me why no formal recall. For details.... Bottom line is... Defector sensor (which needs to be replaced) or the existing sensor is too "rusted up" to work properly... ----------------- .... Basically, ... Read More...
Wet Carpet!
We have a 2001 GMC Safari and the whole entire pad from the back of the van to the front of it are SOAKED! We took a 6 hour trip this weekend to MN when we noticed we have a GREAT BIG problem! My husband has torn everything out, all of the seats, carpet and pad. Where should we start to look for the leaks? We know that the seal/weather stripping has to be replaced in the back ... GMC Safari wont start after intake job, cleaned poppets.
I found a coolant leak on my 2001 Safari and I decided to chek it out. Found out it was the intake gaskets. I went ahead and took it apart to replace them and clean everything out. I used throttle body and intake cleaner on the injectors or poppets. When I put it back together, it would not start, only crank. Checked fuel pressure, had 56 psi and spark. Both present. I ... 1998 GMC Safari ownership
I bought a 1998 GMC Safari with 49k miles on January 2001 for #12K. It is a 2wd model and it is fully loaded. It now has 109k miles and during this time I've had the following major problems: 1- paint peeled off in sheets from the roof and hood. 2- a/c system had to be replaced twice (leaky compressor). 3- a/c still leaks but a lower rate. There have other smaller problems ... Read More...
