  No caps, please! To answer your question, this sounds like a classic fuel regulator failure where the regulator is leaking, adding additional fuel into the engine. The additional fuel causes the backfire/hard start, followed by rough idle. Once the excess fuel is burned off, the engine will run normally as it can deal with the small amount of leakage coming in.   I have a 99, it is located on the right side of the throttle body. May have to take off throttle body cover to see it. If you are sure you need to replace it, go buy one then look for the part on throttle body.

  Sounds like your "Cold Start circuit" isn't telling the computer that the car is now warm? Two things I can think of at little to no extra costs... 1)Replace Temp. sensor/sender to the computer...NOT the sender to the guage. Inexpensive part to replace.   We have an 01 jimmy and have very similar problems, been dealing with this for awhile. replaced fuel pump, fuel filters, flushed fuel lines, pickup coil, inginaiton mod, altinator, was overcharging. engine light comes on sometimes no codes fuel gauge jumps around runs good when cool or cold out. gets hot out it act up. stops when driving and when you park it wont start wait 15 min starts up again ...   FWIW... One thing I replaced once was the temp. sender to the COMPUTER.... NOT the sender to the temp. gauge/light. It was inexpensive ($10-$12? @ Autozone). Once the truck was up to temperature..the Computer temp. sensor/sender was telling the computer to not let the truck re-start. That solved my problem when the truck would not restart after getting up to temp.

  They ended up replacing the central port fuel injectors, now the car runs like a top! Perfect! It is the second time I have had to have that replaced, so I am worried if it will go out again.

  Both levers broke off in my 99 Jimmy. The remaining stub on the driver's side split in two pieces so the aftermarket handle won't work. Has anyone replaced the reclining mechanism?   Look for water dropping - #1 cause on 4.3 is the lower intake sprays a fine mist into the valley and the lifters make noise. You will normally NOT see any water in the oil when this occurs only the res dropping and morning lifter noise.   Oil and filter and hope the lower intake gasket isn't leaking into the valley. Keep a close watch on the reservior - fill it to the hot line when cold and look at each day and make sure its not dropping. No leaks either so look around.   When I had that issue it was my fuel injector. Thankfully it was still under warranty and the dealer replaced it. I guess the fuel injector stopped working. My brother has a 2001 GMC Truck and now is experiencing the same problem.

  I purchased a 2001 GMC Jimmy in 2004. I have a bumper to bumper warranty, but yet the heater core issues and the sludge returns. Does anyone the true part that needs to be replaced? The dealership tells me it's a different part each time I take it in. I'm needing flushes more often than every six months and they replaced the radiator in June. What should I do next?

  At the dealer. Held in by 2 torx bolts and about 2 feet up theres a connector on the frame that unclips but has a plastic pin holding it to the frame so pop it out. Comes with the new hub also if thats needed.

  If the heater core gurggles it needs to be flushed and you can do that by buying a 3' length of 5/8 and 3/4 heater hose, cover distributer with plastic, and remove the 2 hoses at firewall and flush with a garden hose both ways till runs freely.   I've had that happen to both my 1999 and 2002 Blazers. Its a common problem, due to the soft alluminum shaft they use. I just went to a junkyard, and yanked a new assembly.. Cost me $15

  Yes it can and its got a torx bolt holding it in and then a few brackets on the wire up to a simple connector on the frame about 1.5' long from the sensor. Unless the wire is cut doubt thats it - remove and turn the wheel/hub and look in and see if the cogs are broken in the hub.
