Summary

What Edmunds.com says

If you're looking for true seven-passenger capacity and serious cargo space in a midsize SUV, the Envoy XL has the competition beat.

Pros

Strong six- or eight-cylinder power, clean interior design, plenty of passenger and cargo room.

Cons

Spongy suspension, numb steering, odd exterior proportions.

What's New for 2003

For 2003, Envoy XL buyers are able to order options individually, rather than as part of an equipment package, adding potential savings and increased flexibility. The sport-ute's already powerful 4.2-liter inline six engine also gets a slight bump in horsepower, up from 270 to 275; XL buyers seeking increased low-end torque, greater cargo-hauling and trailering capability and speedier acceleration may step up to the newly offered 5.3-liter V8, which spews 290 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, Envoy XLs now boast a new four-position headlamp switch that permits drivers to turn off the vehicle's daytime running lamps and automatic headlamps when necessary.

Love the Envoy, have had it for about 6 years and at 79000 miles no major problems. I have 5 kids and it is a great fit for us. I have thought about getting an Enclave but love the Envoy too much. It could do a little better on gas but its still not bad, we take a long trip every year and the is lots of room for us and our stuff. Buy one!

Review

We have 80,000 miles on our Envoy, and have have no major mechanical issues. We have had several annoying problems with door and hatch latches that have lingered.....again, not major, but annoying. Other than that the truck has been a perfect fit for an active family. Good size, good road manners, good performance, and has stood up very well to the wear and tear of family use.

Favorite Features

Engine and drivetrain are perfectly matched to give smooth performance to this solid vehicle. Nice styling.

Suggested Improvements

Fold flat 3rd row seats. Improve fit of doors and latches.

The Envoy is the perfect size for my active family of five. Well designed for space, and ease of use. The engine and drivetrain are well matched yeilding a smooth ride with adequate power. We have had numerous small (but annoying) issues with the hatch latch, door locks, trim, etc....all small things. Other than that, very satisfied. Great family vehicle.

Favorite Features

Good looks, perfect size, excellent engine/drivetrain.

Suggested Improvements

Fold flat rear seats, better cupholder placement, improve build quality

We have owned the truck for 4 years and 80,000 miles. Love the overall design and size...perfect for a family. Engine and drivetrain are smooth as silk, and make driving this big vehicle more enjoyable. We have had many small and non-critical problems....door handles, tail gate, power window relay, weatherstripping....etc. Overall very satisfied, but the small things can be annoying at times.

Favorite Features

Engine and drivetrain are fantastic. Excellent size, and good use of interior space. Perfect for a family.

Suggested Improvements

Fold flat rear seats. Improve build quality. Better placement of cup- holders.
