Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsMuch praise has already come for this new engine and we're happy to add to it. With 270 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, this engine is a winner. Our best effort was on the second run with a braking start and the torque converter stalling at 2,300 rpms. The traction control was switched off for a better launch, and the computer shifted right at 6,000 rpm on each shift under full throttle. Manually shifting the transmission on later runs toward the 6,300 rev-limiter provided no increase in performance or decrease in times.
Braking commentsOn our very first run, the brake pedal went to the floor and caught us off guard. We had to move the seat forward for the next run to make sure we were getting all of the braking out of the Envoy that we could. Heavy nose dive was accompanied by a distinct pull to the right that carried us into the next lane. We noted on the drive back to the start that our vehicle did have an off-center steering wheel that could hint that the vehicle's alignment was off, causing the pull. On each of our runs, the braking stayed right in the 130-foot range, so fade was not a issue, and overall, this system does work well providing quick stops for the 4,400-pound vehicle.
