Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon Owner Experiences

That truck should get a lot better mileage. I've got a 2000 S10 with the old-tech OHV 4 cylinder engine. It's a regular cab, automatic and I have a truck cap on the bed. I bought it in Dec. 2007 for $6,600 (taxes, etc. all included) and it had 52K miles. I consistently get 20-22 MPG around town and 25 MPG on the highway. It now has 64K miles. You should ... I should have added that you need to look up the sensor part number in the GM parts manual for a later year. The last time I checked when GM made it available they did not go back and add it to the 2004 and 2005 parts listings. Look for a 2007 or later Colorado / Canyon.

I'm very surprised that people stay faithful to a product that fails on such a grand scale. In my last post I commented on my satisfaction with earlier Toyota products. In 1990 the Toyota I bought was bullet proof. The 1998 Corolla was up there at 90%. Although I found that car annoyingly underpowered for freeway travel, I didn't keep it long, I bought a Mazda. In 2003 I bought a ... Read More

Sorry, I meant cyl head problem. Mine is a 2006 model I baught in early 2007 and now has 23K. I have received no "letter" from Chevy on this problem. My worry is that the 3 year warranty will run out before I get an official notice on the extension. Last time I called them I could not pin them down on this. I'll try calling them again and post their ... Read More

I baught my 2006 5 cyl Colarado in January 2007 as a new vehicle. It runs fine now, but I only have 20K on the engine, since I own and drive two other cars. My problem is that my warranty ends in about 7 months. I don't want to be stuck with a $3000 repair bill, but I love the truck. I called the dealer and was told that my VIN ... Read More

When my a/c is turned on the compressor will only stay engaged for 4-8 seconds before disengaging even if inside truck temperature is over 100 degrees. It will stay disengaged for 6-8 seconds then engage again. It cools OK the 4-8 seconds compressor is engaged & will eventually cool down the cab. But the compressor is constantly kicking in or out every 6-8 seconds. The expansion valve & temperature sensor have ... Read More

I seem to have a new problem. when it is cold (rare in NC) it feels like I am starting off in second gear. It goes away after a 5 min warm up. I am going back to the dealer before my 36000 runs out. Anyone notice this?

They had it for 5 weeks...not a gmc problem but a local dealership problem that multiple complaints have been surfacing since early 2007. :) I love this truck and am torn on whether to sell it. I definitly recommend an extended warranty for anyone who gets into a 2005-2006 that has the particular defects and VIN's that match the TEC DOC ID#1915 419. I ... Read More

All vehicles have problems. Honda has had theirs too. Toyota is having big problems with the new Camry and is not standing behind them, putting off the customers and saying nothing is wrong. It is supposed to drive this way. I can remember Honda doing the same a few years back. At least the General stepped up to the plate. I had a Chevy Tracker that was almost 2 years out ... Read More

First-off, I don't own a Colorado, but I've been eyeing them since they first came out last year. Currently, I drive a 2001 Ford Escape XLT V6. Nice small(er) SUV with sucky gas-mileage, but it hasn't been too problematic otherwise. The reason I posted is that I've got friend who's a mechanic at a local Chevy dealership. He's pretty current on what's happening at GM, or at least so he seems ... Read More

I have done much homework on this vehicle, including test drives, putting 2 car seats in it, loading up our travel gear, etc. To date, there have been none available for 24 hour test drives ...
