Colorado 2006, Crew Cab, LT, 43,000 miles, never used for hard work, only to carry my daughter's bike. Here is another one. The truck just doesn't go forward on D, I'm able to go forward only in 1 and 2. I didn't try 3, reverse is fine. What could be? broken transmission??, Should be that covered by the Performance First extended warranty sold by the dealer when I purchase the truck??? ... Read More
"I have decided to fix the serious issues and sell the vehicle. I do not want to dump it off on anyone else, so I will make sure it runs properly first." That's just what I did, I just wish I would have done it sooner. Like I say, I liked the truck and if it had been well designed and reliable I would probably still be driving it today. What ... I have never paid much attention to the rpms when the pickup dies. Ive been in traffic and making quick turns. But I will have that looked at and see if I can have one of my many problems fixed. I have decided to fix the serious issues and sell the vehicle. I do not want to dump it off on anyone else, so I will make sure it runs properly ... Read More
I guess the word fob is an american thang. lol . In canada we just call it a remote. When you attach other things to your key chain, i dont know what you call them. Attachments, accessories, trinkets,I dunno. When someone has alot of shit on their key chain,we dont say "man, you have alot of Fobs on your key chain". We say "Man,you have alot of shit on your key chain".lol
"When the truck "dies on turns..." Yes, that was another fix, cleaning the throddle body. Mine was doing the same thing, "bogging out" and the shop (non-dealer) that I was working with cleaned the throddle body and it was fine after that. This is something that is pretty common on high milage vehicles. The 'concept' of the Colorado/Canyon is a good one, that's why I put so much effort into keeping ... Read More
Before the days of electronic remote entry/start for cars, when you had 'something' purely decorative attached to that chain (metal, stone, etc) - what did you call that? Or, what do you call that small extra pocket on men's pants (especially jeans or work pants)? Those are fobs. I believe the English word dates back at least to the early days of the North American trains (early 1800's), but my etymology ... Read More
Wes, When the truck "dies on turns", are the rpms dropping way off and the truck shakes? If so, this sounds like a throttle body that needs cleaned. Mine was stalling and I took it to a friend and he cleaned the throttle body. It runs much better now (except for the random electrical issues).
I know...I should unload the truck and move on. But I have grown up with General Motors vehicles and I really was hoping that it would work out. I am so sad that there are so many issues with such a new truck. You would think that the corporation would take the extra step to resolve and satisfy their customers. I can remember riding around in an old GMC pickup and ... Read More
This is my first GM must admit that I do like the truck, so far...2008 Canyon Crew,, have had it almost 2 years...90,000 kms on it, only cost so far is a purge canister...not bad from what I've seen here. Recently put a remote starter on it and have had some strange things happening...security light coming on as I drive ...as well as dome light coming on when I stop...it displays ... Read More
Fob stands for... ummm, ahhh, Fob. I've asked this of serveral people, nobody knew a good answer. "Freight On Board" is what is typical but that makes no sense. The dictionary definition is "A chain attached to a watch for carrying in a waistcoat or waistband pocket". I can tell you what GM stands for though...
Was wondering myself...turns out it's a noun meaning an object attached to a chain, like a pocket watch...nothing to do with what it is...weird I know,
Figured it was the keyless entry but why the hell do you call it fob?...lol Is that something only in the U.S.? Never heard of that expression up here in Canada. Thx. Its just called "remote"...lol
key fob (remote).
Call me stupid, but i just cant figure out for the life of me, what the hell "FOB" stands for. LOL. Can someone please endulge me....lol...thx
Hi Dennis, to your post... There were earlier posts about the weird electrical problems with the dash lights and instrument cluster. There is also an issue with the CD player not playing CDs. It's interesting what you say about the door module and power to it etc... I found cleaning and replacing the door module would reset the window/fob thing for a couple of days, but then it would return, dead ... Read More
wes0110, the blower issue is the plug connectors that contact the blower resistor, located above the passenger's feet area under the dash next to the motor. You can do the factory repair or if you are into soldering, I cut the plug off the harness and cleaned the connector terminals by removing plastic around the connectors with a hot knife. I cleaned and soldered new wires to the terminals and connected ... Read More
Good morning, Wes, If we can look to see if there are any recalls associated to your vehicle, or if you were to decide to work with a dealership to diagnose your vehicle and would like assistance, please send us an email with the last 8 digits of your VIN. Regards, Sarah GM Customer Service
Not to be a "Wise-n-hymer." but do yourself a favor like others of us have done, UNLOAD IT B-4 IT'S TOO LATE!!!!! Had same issues,G.M./My dealer/G.M. service dept. Did NOTHING to help!!! I have read through most of these posts. I too am experiencing issues with my 2006 GMC Canyon. The dash lights will flicker occasionally. Sometimes the blower motor only works on level 4. The radio loses some of its settings. Usually I am not able to dim the dash lights with the lever. It just simply stays on one level. And finally, the truck has died on me when turning corners. ... When the Collie first came out you had to buy the whole hub to replace a wheel sensor. We had so many of them fail that in 2006 (I believe) GM started making those sensors available as a stand alone part. You can get them aftermarket for $45.00 or less. No need to replace the whole hub. Also the sensor is a low voltage pickup. It's clearance is critical. Most of ... Read More
I had the same problem with my 2006 Isuzu I-280 extended cab 4-cyl engine. If you don't know already, this is a Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon with a different grille. A couple of months ago my driver side window, door locks and keyfob remote stopped working. I went on line to this forum and was amazed at the number of GM made trucks with the same problem as mine. After reading a ... Read More
Is this cam shaft actuator fix these dealerships have been doing to peoples vehicles a big coverup for something GM is trying to hide. Would a cam shaft actuator make an engine run good for a while if it was another problem all together. Somebody please investigate this. I am tired of replacing cam shaft actuators. Maybe GM needs to buyback all these vehicle lemons.
You are as miserable as I have been the last 3 years. I have a 2006 GMC Canyon. It has a 2.8 liter 4 cylinder. It never runs good. It idles rough. The check engine light is off and on all the time. The last time I brought the truck in it was some actuator and they cleaned my throttle body and adjusted the fuel with a computer. Costed me over ... Read More
I took my 2006 GMC Canyon to Walker GMC in Alexandria, Louisiana today. The truck had a miss with a code of PO496. They called me and said they were going to replace the purge valve. I had all the same readings on my 2006 GMC Canyon with the 2.8 liter. The dealership replaced the Cam Solenoid Actuator. I had 121535 on my engine. My mileage is now 162435 and it is doing it again. There needs to be a recall or I am thinking about a class action lawsuit. Anybody want to join. I think that the letter for a recall they sent out on November ... Read More
The problem you are experiencing is normal. The transmission will not shift out and lockup (4th) until the engine reaches a predetermined temperature. Usually about 8-10 minutes driving a normal speed. If you let the vehicle warm up to normal operating temperature before driving, this will not happen. By design, the downshift control operates such that it ensures the engine speed is high enough to prevent stallling when passing gear is ... Read More

When you're accelerating to pass another vehicle, the truck's computer will sense the position of the accelerator pedal, as well as the engine vacuum, and downshift the transmission (at least it will do this with an automatic). The engine speed naturally goes up, due to the shift to the lower gear, as well as how far you're pushing the gas pedal. The Canyon/Colorado 5 cylinder has a "redline" (max speed) of ... Read More
O.k. thank you so much. That is exactly what my truck does. O.k so I have another question that deals with this same problem. O.k, say for instinct, when it shifts into OD, that last shift we are talking about, right. Say i get ready to pass someone, and I get in the gas tank to pass them, the rpm hand goes very high and the engine sounds rough when the ... Read More
"Passion", as I said, both my '97 S-10 and my '05 Canyon are vehicles that I drove primarily in the winter, when the outside temps are pretty cold. They both exhibited the same operation. My morning commute to work was such that I drove 3-4 miles at 40MPH or below, which is below the converter "lock-up" point, before I got to the expressway. That length of drive usually was enough to ... Read More
are you sure about this?? Please I pray that you are right. You don't think it has anything to do with the speed sensor or I may need to have the transmission flushed or anything like that?? You think it has a lot to do with the cold weather, and the engine has to be at a certain temperature? I was going to take it to a machanic tomorrow and let ... Read More
Hi Forum, i have a problem with my transmission shifting out that last gear. The problem started about year or so ago. The problem occurs mostly in cold weather, or thats when i notice it most often. When I start off, the shifting is fine, then when it gets to that last gear, it hestitates for a long time before it shifts. The rpm hand is regestering above the #2 on ... Read More
"Passion", with respect to the shift into 4th gear, keep in mind that until the engine is up to full operating temperature, which can take a while if the weather is cold, the truck will not go into overdrive. My '97 Chevy S-10 4x4 was like that, and my currently owned '05 Canyon 4x4 operates the same way.
Well, I took mine to a dealership, they fix this thing call a cam shaft actuator. Says that is what cause my truck to do what it was doing. I don't believe it, but it stop the problem. My wife and I bought a 22,000 mi 2006 Canyon from the original owner in May. The REDUCED POWER and EMISSIONS lights came on a few months ago. I pulled over and restarted the car. Hello, I found "The Letter". I had received it in November 2008 and my wife had filed it away without telling me. It says that in "some" 2006 Colorados "engine valve seats may wear." A tipoff that this is happening is that the Service Engine Soon (SES) may come on and "additional wear may lead to engine idle roughness." Anyhow, the letter is a notification that the warranty for this problem ... Read More
Sorry, I meant cyl head problem. Mine is a 2006 model I baught in early 2007 and now has 23K. I have received no "letter" from Chevy on this problem. I'll try calling them again and post their ... Read More
I have a 2006 Canyon 5 cyl I just bought with 48000 miles. At idle there is an engine tapping noise, but it doesnt sound like a knock. My mechanic said it sounds like a tapping lifter and thicker oil will quiet it. My friends said chevy trucks do it too. Has anyone else noticed this problem and does it mean anything is or will break?
I baught my 2006 5 cyl Colarado in January 2007 as a new vehicle. It runs fine now, but I only have 20K on the engine, since I own and drive two other cars. I just got my truck back yesterday. They had it for 5 weeks...not a gmc problem but a local dealership problem that multiple complaints have been surfacing since early 2007. :) I love this truck and am torn on whether to sell it. I would agree with the previous. It would be difficult to drive a Frontier, Tacoma or Honda Ridgeline (it is cool!) and then fork over within $1000 or so for Colorado. (Do it and you be the judge.)
