  We are having the exact same problems with our 2008 and now have electrical problems due to the water leaking in. I had to post after your comment on the GM service rep. I wonder if they are actually doing anything with that info or just trying to appear concerned!! Sooo frustrating. Good luck!!

  I had this exact same thing happen to us in our 2008 GMC Acadia last fall. They told us it was a stuck solenoid too and replaced the transmission. NOW, I just took it in with issues and it is the transmission again. Apparently there is a solenoid that is bad again.

  there is a recall and GM should fix it. We had the same thing happen with our 44,000 2008 lemon. Dealership couldnt fix it...water was pouring from overhead dvd. trouble at 2500 miles..finally took to a different GM dealership and they got GM corporate involved and took the whole thing apart to find there wasn't one seal completed from the factory.   The rack and pinion assembly complete. Popping is now gone. 500 miles since the timing chain and rack replacement. I hold my breath and watch for the warning lights to all go out on startup. Pretty sad really. Hoping nothing else goes wrong.

  Your clank in the front end sounds like the issue mine had. It was a pronounced pop especially at low speeds when turning. Even a very slight turn. The rack and pinion had a failed bushing causing it to slip/pop. Could very well be what is wrong with yours.

  44k miles for a water pump isn't too far off; a little early, but I wouldn't worry about it if it is covered. Bearings do go bad or can be installed improperly. The latter causes the former.
