You're going to love this car. I bought a '95 Prizm in 1996 with 3000 miles on it, and now my college student uses it, it has 110,000 miles on it. Rattles like crazy but it gets her from point A to point B reliably. Then in October I bought another '95 Prizm for my soon-to-be 16 yr. old. It had 191,000 miles on it! Like you, I bought it for ... Hello, I would appreciate a lot if you can help me out. I just bought a 1996 geo prizm this week. Yesterday, the starter went dead and I spent all day replacing it. However, in order to get the starter out, I have to remove the heater hoses from the engine cylinder because they're on the way. I put a piece of tape on one of the hoses so I know ... Read More

  • Geo Prizm Leather Seats

I have a 1996 Geo Prizm LSI with tan leather "faced" seats. It just turned 104K miles.. great car without any mechanical issues. I have had this commuter car ever since 11,000 miles but now need to repair or replace the side bolster of the driver side leather seat because of wear (and a tear). Does any one know a site that I can find a replacement leather (not cloth/cover) seat ... Read More

  • Engine misfire

My 1996 Geo Prizm 1.8 tripped the Check Engine light yesterday. My friendly neighborhood AutoZone read the error code as "P0302 cylinder 2 misfire" & suggested plugs & wires as a remedy. 1) is that accurate? 2) what causes a misfire? 3) will it damage anything to run the vehicle before it is fixed? Thanks very much for any help anyone might give!

  • Heat not working properly

I have a 1996 Geo Prizm Lsi (manual) and recently I have been having issues with the heat. I lose heat when idling. I get no heat after warming the car up, but I do get heat when driving. The temperature gauge reads in the middle where it normally does, however I did notice once that when idling (and losing heat), it would rise briefly and then drop again (also sounds ... Read More

I have a 96 Prizm with 49K miles. Do Prizms have timing belts or chains? And when they should be replaced? Is there a lot of damage to the engine if timing belt/chain breaks down? Thanks for sharing info.

I bought a new LSi in 1996 and I have about 50K miles on it now and it hasn't given me a lick of trouble except for the knob on the temperature control busting off twice. (warranty covered) I REALLY like this car. I got the 5 speed manual with the 1.8L engine option--a combination that provides much more power than most people expect from a Geo. I drive in the ... I am getting a 1996 Geo Prizm Lsi (1.8 Litre engine, fully loaded with options like Automatic transmission, ABS, Power windows, power locks, keyless entry, rear defogger, alloy wheels, cruise control etc.) with ONLY 24000 miles and original owner. The owner paid $18775 for it and is not willing to go below $9000. It is in really excellent condition but I suspect the price is a bit high. After all, it ... Read More

Had a 1996 GEO Prizm, auto, 3-speed, mostly used by my wife (she drives little) on a 3 year lease. Just turned it in and these are the facts; Reliability: Excellent. Took it to the dealer only once-the windshield wipers quit out of the blue one day. Dealer replaced the motor. No other problemas after that. Performance: A punk on a skateboard might pass you. Handling: Good. Body Style: A microwave ... Read More
