I have a 1992 Geo Metro with a 1.0L, 3 cyl engine. Engine runs great, but the auto transmission has attitude problems comparative to that of a human teenager. Hello, The Geo Metro 1.0 and 1.3 liter motors each take very different distributor caps. The 1.0 liter motor has 3 cylinders, and takes a distributor cap that has 3 spark plug wire sockets on it (for the wires which go to the 3 spark plugs on the 1.0 engine). Ecu I had that exact problem and can't tell you this was the fix all. However, I know after doing it, a buddy who is a chief mechanic told me about it, it no longer does it!! I am now "alternating" gas tank fillups..no joke--regular then super unleaded AND I NEVER EVER use anything but Amoco/BP--haven't bothered with the midgrade as that's what he told me to do. I have a 1993 Geo Metro XFI 5sp manual hatchback that I bought brand new back in Aug1993. Currently has 132,000 miles and still runs like a champ. 3cyl that still gets 40plus mpg. Change oil about every 4000 miles. Mostly highway commute miles here in the golden state. Paid about $8,500 for it brand new. No complaints. Hard to believe you found a 1992 with less than ... The three-cyl Metro engine has very tiny exhaust valves, which wear out over the years. I have had a 1991 and now drive a 1992 model, and on both I have rebuilt the engine. Having the valves replaced and the cylingers honed will make it a top-notch gas saver and stop that oil use. :D Read More...

I don't know about new or after-market, but there have been a few of them on e-bay during the past few months. I've started buying some replacement parts before I need them. Parts for GEO metros are probably going to become difficult to find in the future. There are already a lot of convertible parts no longer available. Are you still planning a trip to Washington, ... I very much doubt it - so far as I know, the Corolla is a 4 cylinder engine; in 1992, the Metro had a 3 cylinder 1000cc engine. It may have changed by 1995, but, so far as I know, the Metro was always built by Suzuki (another Japanese firm). Stan Read More...
