2004 Ford Thunderbird Premium 2dr Convertible w/Removable Hard Top (3.9L 8cyl 5A) Premium 2dr Convertible w/Removable Hard Top (3.9L 8cyl 5A)
This is an update of my earlier review (Fun, Fun, Fun Written by: Chuck's '04 PCR on 04/27/2007) OK, 3.5 years later & she's a daily driver. Still love the car, but sure am glad I got the 7-yr/100k warranty. I have replaced 7 of the 8 coils (actually Ford has), and I am just waiting for the last one to get bad enough to replace. Ford has extended the warranty on the COPs (Coil on Plug) to 10 yrs/100,000 miles, so any replacements should be free. I have not had any problems with the replaced coils. Just replaced the thermostat & upper radiator hose at 71k. I take it to a Lincoln dealer for service, since it is essentially a Lincoln LS and the Ford guys typically know nothing about the car.
V8 Ragtop! Air still blows cold enough to create condensation on the dash. Heated seats. The V8 puts out over 1 HP/CID (280 HP/234 CID) & still gives me 20 mpg! Exhaust is getting a nice growl to it. People still comment, point, & wave. V8 Ragtop in Fla! Gorgeous! If I didn't have one, I'd want one.
More cup hldrs. Regular gas. Auto wipers like wife's Volvo. Trip computer. Compass. USB port for the stereo. Louder stereo. More HP & MPG (I know, I know, but this HP/CID/MPG combo was pretty much unheard of when I was a kid - my '72 Torino 302 was 145 factory HP & 7 MPG before I tinkered w/it)
2004 Ford Thunderbird Premium 2dr Convertible w/Removable Hard Top (3.9L 8cyl 5A) Premium 2dr Convertible w/Removable Hard Top (3.9L 8cyl 5A)
2004 tbird premium. When I purchased the car I was told not to take it through the car wash as the pressure would break the seals. I have not done this and have no leaks and wind noise free. One bad thing is the coils I have had 6 replaced so far.
excellent auto so far and is certainly a head turner.
more trunk room

A neighbor of my announced Friday that he wanted to sell his 2004 Pacific Coast Roadster T-bird with 16,300 miles. Monday I owned a T-bird. I drove it yesterday on a 350 mile trip and am very impressed with the car. It has less wind noise than any other convertible I've owned. It cruises on the highway great and has super 60 to 80 passing power on two lane roads. The seats are comfortable and the radio/cd player sounds good. The top is a breeze to put up and down. Mine has the original tires and they ride great. This car makes a super adult roadster. It rides great and has very nice retro styling. Baby Boomers can't do better. I think buying one now is a great investment.
More Power than expected. Quieter than expected...both with top up and down. Transmission is smooth. soft top fabric is better than expected. Radio sounds great & seats are comfortable. Heated seats work great. Good leg room width. Classic looks. Porthole hardtop looks nice.
The pacific coast roadster has synthetic suede inserts in the seats instead of full leather. They look great now, but I don't think they will wear as well as full leather over the next 20 years. Otherwise it's perfect!
After a deer motorcycle accident I bought my T'bird for the top down experience and sold the motorcycles. While not as fast as my previous sport bike, the T'bird does rip. If you let it rev it will pull like a maniac and is plenty fast. It also corners surprising well, nice and flat and very predictable. Perhaps not a track car, but definitely fun in the mountains. Very quiet ride with the top down, smooth ride on the highway. Just very nice car to drive. Not a big trunk but big enough for weekend bags or picnic stuff. The space behind the seats is a handy space for the dog, or a bag, or a cooler. What keeps it from perfect is bad ignition coils. Bought used at 24K miles, 54K now.
Great looks, great feel on the road, strong power, easy up and down action of the top. Nothing better to drive on a nice day.
COPS, coil on plug ignition coils is a weakness in design. They run hot and break down after about 30 to 40K miles. Ford has extended warranty coverage for 10 years and 100K miles on COPS but it is a pain when one dies, the motor runs rough until it is fixed. Taints an otherwise super duper car.
My son wrecked what I thought was to be my last car-- a 2004 Mercedes c230 coupe that I dearly loved ! Searching the net for a replacement I came across a 2004 T-Bird at a "give away" price.Took a look and I was hooked !! I'm a 71 year old woman, alone now, but when I drive my T-Bird, top down & Elvis playing, oh boy, the joy and the memories !! It doesn't get the 36mpg of the Mercedes- but is a gas saver anyway- can't fit the family so I get chauffeured around a lot ! I haven't regretted buying this car for one second-the stand out design in today's world predominated with S.U.V.s and hybrids brings a big smile to my face whenever I look at it ! It's a beauty !
The medium blue metallic paint with matching tops is perfect for Florida. The stereo system rocks ! The comfortable 2 tone seats, and the ease of entry & exit. The "magic" moving steering wheel.I would like a compass- but Mercedes didn't provide one either- not too expensive to buy one.
No sense suggesting- they are out of production. A good thing for those of us who prefer a more unique head turner for a ride !!
I too have had major problems with the tires leaking air. Dealer said there was no problem. Tire company says, and this was after 2 new tires had to be purchased prematurely....PROBLEM is the RIMS are faulty at the factory. I have had problems with 2 wheel...and now starting with my THIRD.
Stand behind this and recall the wheels FORD!
My T-bird has had 6 engine coils replaced in less then 52,00 miles. The radio/CD player replaced 4 times. The engine thermostat replaced along with fan assembly. The hard top leaks and ford refuses to fix. It is normal to have some leakage. The brakes replaced 4 times. No I am not hard on brakes. The driver side rear quarter panel no longer lays flat with rest of body surface. The car stopped dead on the 15 freeway coming from Vegas in the fast lane without warning. The black paint faded in spots. The soft top frays in two areas. The T-bird fun to drive. But very expensive and does not provide the quality expected from Ford. Or does it?
Replacement insurance or warranty extended. Recall of car for common complaints by current owners.
Our 2003 Prem TB Hard Top is the most fun to drive its realy like having 3 cars when you put soft top up then Down and The Port hole Hard top on. Crack the window and listen to that sound of the 60's coming our of the great SC sound system and the exhaust pipes.
the looks and drive
Get a locking gas cap and light on the visor make-up mirror for the lady of my life.
Purchased The Pacific Coast Roadster limited Edition in May of 2004. Just driving down the road brings comments of 'nice car' or 'looks great'. But that's not the only reason to drive it, it's really a great comfortable ride, with plenty of power when needed. After travelling 300 miles on a trip (non- stop), I didn't feel all cramped or butt-weary on arrival. I love this car.
I traded my 2002 T-Bird, for this more powerfull 2004 Bird. My Merlot w/Sand appearance package, is a head turner everywhere we go. At the annual All Fords National Show held in PA, with 3000 Fords on display, she brought home a First Place Trophy. And she has been invited back for a special display in 2005. She has been personalized and is very very pampered. Kudo's to FORD, for bringing back the Icon in American Automotives.
Metalic Merlot Paint. Removable Hard-Top w/ Portholes Sirius Satelite hookup Homelink
Less plastic Interior
I have had this green TBird for about a year now and have enjoyed it a great deal. There is nothing like riding home in the evening with the top down. Makes my whole day. I do it often.
Convertible top. Great styling. Great size.
Could stand an upgrade in the interior with better quality leather and other trim.
I love this car!! I've owned many nice cars but this one is by far the most fun to drive. Every time I stop at a light the heads turn. I've owned my T- Bird for 3 months and I'm just as excited about driving it now as I was the day I drove it home. The soft top is so easy to use. I wanted one of these cars ever since they were first introduced but they just didn't seem very practical. I have never regretted buy this car and I'm sure I never will.
Styling is at the top of my list. The V8 has all the power I will ever need. The transmission shifts so smoothly it's unbelieveable. I love the hardtop with the porthole window.
I wish the hardtop was a little easier to install. I'm surprised the car doesn't have a compass. The trunk needs to be a little larger. Needs storage space for CD's
With 1,233 miles on it, we left for a 3700 + mile trip from Whidbey Island, WA through OR, NV, AZ,CA and return. Ave. 24+ mpg. Turned heads everywhere. Beamer & Lexus drivers give it a 2nd look. Lots of comments. Fun to drive - good acceleration, stiff suspension & tight steering. Corners flat and hugs the road. Quiet inside w/very little road noise. Came over Donner Pass, westbound on I 80 in a snowstorm, early NOV 04. Sipped tires by Les Schwab - never slipped or broke loose. We pack the trunk like a suitcase - use small overnight bags in & out of the motels. We like it more every time we drive it.
Style & Metallic Ice Blue color, and Handling. White faces on gauges.
Adjustable Lumbar supports in the seats. Power Hard top vs a retractable soft top. If the Chevy SSR can do it, Ford outta be able to do it.
i love my powder blue t-bird for around town. it just makes people smile and give you the thumbs up sign. it is a little difficult to remove hard top. once it was off--i kept it off. the soft top up and down feature does not measure up to my saab convertible that self latches and does not need a boot cover. the t-bird has tons of pick-up and is good off the line which is important in LA. i plan on putting few miles on this car and keeping it for a long time.
i think the design is very cool. you know going into this that this is no costco car for bulk shopping. this car is fun--not a kiddie mobile. like the heated seats and my stainless package and color insert seats. dash etc. is not so confusing. what you see is what you get. love it.
the soft top should self latch--it is too difficult right now. you really need two people--one on top outside to smash top down and someone inside to make latches work and seal top. ford should check out saab.
After owning several Mustang's this car by far is the best and most fun to drive. Real head turner... I have the Merlot with sand interior.. I drive a Volvo 850 for my beater.. the bird has never seen a wet road. garaged and dusted off for sunny days ONLY.
the chrome wheels and parking lamps. not to mention the grill. V8 is awesome
5 speed manual transmission
After wanting this car for 2 years I finally decided to buy one. I have no regrets. I love it.
I love the look of it. The sound system is great. Very comfortable.
More storage would be nice. But overall, not real complaints.
My 2004 Thunderbird is a sweet ride. I really enjoy the "select-a-shift" functionality. Of course, the 2 tops are just great. The car gives a luxury ride with a sporty feel. I've added a roadster tonneau cover; adding fender skirts and a continential kit. This car is a head turner -- and for me it is a great toy!!!
Select-a-shift and 2 tops
More leg room
I purchased this vehical after retiring. Simular to my Father,Who owns his own Thunderbird (late 70's Model) Still Show room new and a Classic. I dont drive this vehical as my everyday car. mainly weekends.I useally keep the car covered to protect the exterior paint. The vehical has provided me with exciting driving pleasure and people often admire the styling of my Ford thunderbird. I also hope to own my T- bird for years to come. Mr. C. LaMont Ruffner Port Saint Lucie, Fl.
The Favorite features are the Two Types of roofs'that are standard, C.D. Player and Sound features ( Original).
Brings back memories of my muscle cars. Great little toy.
Removable top and power rag top. Quick and agile
slightly higher entry
Stunning turquoise w/ black top, perfection in every way and a babe magnet to boot. Turns heads everywhere, w/ a V-8 that kicks it. Soft top great. Will be a Collectors dream as time goes by.
Soft and Hard top (w/ portholes). Touchs of metal in cabin. Color inserts in seats.
nav system please flexible mirrors spotlite option
I love mine! It is the most fun I have had driving in my life!
Feels like a heavy car. Purrs like an old time Ford ( with Lakes pipes)
Hoist to remove heavy top
Every time I climb behind the wheel of my Thunderbird I get a rush. It's a real head-turner. You don't have to worry about passing yourself on the freeway or being mistaken for an import. People seem to appreciate its style and character because they wave, give thumbs up, and even take the opportunity to tell me at red-lights and intersections. If you have the chance to own one of these birds I'd say go for it. You can't go wrong.
The whole car!
Ford got this one right. It's the best retro-design on the road.
cool and very good
seats and wheels
This car not only looks sexy, but it's real fun to drive. It handles real well, steers with precision, only takes a little push on the gas pedal for it to move quickly. The sound of the engine/exhaust is a low pitched roar. When accelerating the car pitches slightly backward with the real wheel drive that gives you that "rocket Launch" POWER feeling. Great visiblity. Easy to check blind spots through circular window in hardtop.
Powerful engine provides great acceleration. The engine is refined to be quiet, and shifts smoothly with great transmission.
Antennae radio reception could be a little better. Trunk a little small. But who cares!
well, i finally got my 'bird...for the price, i am disappointed...exterior fit and finish is poor at best..on hot days, rear bumper cover warps a bit and front bumper cover is visually uneven, also has a optical flaw in the windshield...a shame because mechanically is very sound and runs smooth with good power and handling...too bad exterior quality doesn't match mechanical quality.....
easy to operate convertible top; awesome sound system; smooth, powerful engine.
better quality control off the assembly line. exterior fit and finish needs big improvement.
wonderful sports feel, power and look. It excells in a car and driver fit.
Easy up & down operation of the top.
Wish it had the rear tire, like the original. this would give you a little more trunk room.
the only thing I don't like about this car is turning it off.
continue its production before 2006
Fun to drive and great to look at. No mechanical problems the first year of ownership.
I love this little car. My wife thinks it's great too. I owned sevin of the early models years back, I think I like this one best of all.
The interior could be a little richer and the owners manual is cheap.
We bought this wonderful car because we couldn't make a deal with the 350Z at the local Nissan dealer....and glad now we couldn't. I have owned many BMWs and still have a Mercedes....this American car is tops....and we will probably buy American for the Mercedes replacement. Nobody makes a better V8 than Ford.
The looks, size, quality and relative exclusivity.....you don't see them everywhere.....feels like an SL at half the price....and looks sharper.
The sand color top is IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean.
I love my 'bird! (So does my wife.) I have a Pacific Coast Roadster that is out of this world. She now has over 600 miles in 1 week, all from just cruising around. I have never heard of a car that gets as many comments as my 'bird - everyone loves this car! Like driving a classic with the safety, reliability, & features of new. The PCR is the '04 limited edition model and the only 'bird you can get with a light dash instead of black, which was a big factor in our decision. Only 1000 made, so not too common. Color very classy. Gas mileage good for a V8. Get both tops: ragtop-only costs double(!) to insure. You WILL be seen in this car!
Looks! Handling! Comments! 2-seater! Coolness factor! Uncommon! Heated seats! Wonderful handling - turns very flat and predictable. Tiny turning radius - the 'bird will do a u-turn in 2½ lanes. Soaks up big bumps. Can talk in a normal voice (not yell) with the top down.
Harsh on the little bumps, but I suspect the tires are over inflated, apparently a common problem. Acceleration is quick, but not what I expect for 280 ponies. Check build quality - we rejected the first PCR we saw. Soft top's tight. Allow regular gas.
It's a concept. People react to it and the driver. Incredibley delicious vehicle.
I can only pick one?!?!?! The way it moves down the road. Silky smooth and sexy.
I can't think of any
Driving my T-Bird is better than a Valium
The stering wheel
Fun to drive. Hard to get into if you have even the slightest back problem. User friendly instrumentation.
Better/ easier to use convertible top.
I fell in love with the TBIRD the first time I saw it at the auto show in Boston. Price was to high at the time so I thought I would have to wait to buy a used one. Lucky for me this past Sept 2003 my dealer was having a clearance on leftover 2003 models so I snapped up a new Mountain Shawdow Gray T-Bird at a very reasonable price. I am really enjoying this car. It is only driven on sunny days. I love the look of the porthole hard top ...but driving with the top down is so much fun. Power styling and handling can not be beat.
My favorite features are the styling, the Mountain Shadow Gray paint color, the versitility of both a hardtop & a convertible, the interior styling and of course the drop dead beauty of the exterior styling.
Kind of pointless since the last year of production is 2005. I would have liked a larger trunk.Needs a six way power adjustment for the passenger seat.It needs a locking gas door.Trunk lid does not fit very well.
Unless you are willing to fork out big bucks for a retractable hardtop, this is the best true "convertible" on the road, which possesses three excellent and unique looks, whether in hard top mode, or with the soft top up or down, a rareity for a convertible. The styling is impeccable, as are its mechanical components. The first great "Bird" since 1966. Rumor is this will become the 2007 Lincoln Mark X.
The removable hardtop and the sleek retro design. The lines draw you in and captivate. Pay close attention to the eggcrate grill. A flashback to the 1966 TBird which was the only year to have this feature.
Power 6-way passenger seat and power seat back adjustment/lumbar, lighted vanity mirrors, more powerful sound system (for when the top is down) and additional interior storage compartments. Additional interior/exterior color choices and interior leathers would be nice.
After several years of looking and poor buying mistakes, I have finally found a truely amazing car that fits me perfectly. Its classic, yet elegant and sporty enough for most everyone. A perfect combination of style and comfort. Just purchased the newest 2004 color addition (Light Ice Blue Metallic)... absolutely beautiful. Went in to drive (and buy) the Merlot with Sand interior and there she was. An American Icon it is !!! Smooth ride with plenty of HP when needed. Will update after a few months.
Hardtop/Convertible option all in one. Classic look with updated features. Beautiful lines.
Hardtop convertible that retracts into the trunk eliminating the need for manual removal.
I enjoy driving this car. It's fun. Even after 2 years, people still talk to me about it and stare at it. Could be the yellow color is so happy, it's irresistible.
The look with the hardtop on is my favorite feature. I never take the hardtop off and never will. It's just a cute car and fun to drive. Also the bumblebee interior is neat too. I have the yellow/black interior.
I think the steering wheel has too much play but it's not a big deal. The car travels best at 80. Perfect speed. Has lots of power too in pinches.
Fun to drive and resonably priced. Comfortable, sleek design. Classy car! The thing that we like alot is that its production is limited, so its not all over the place. You dont see one every time you turn your head!
We purchased this car, after one year of reviewing other possibilities. What a great purchase. Love it, love it...and guess what, I have never had a car that other car owners wanted to talk about as much as this T Bird. We have added 18" wheels & custom rims which make it standout. Quick and fun to drive. This is the last year they are making the T Bird, so I think it will hold it's value.
Looks, quickness, convertable hard top.
More room for my husband to drive, but its my car so he can sit back and relax.
Love to drive it to the country club or for sunday drives in the country.
I HAVE HAD MANY THUNDERBIRD AND THIS BY FAR IS THE MOST FUN TO DRIVE.I ALSO OWN A FEW VINTAGE BIRDS NOW.ONE OF THEM IS A MATCHING 1955.
POWER AND PERFORMANCE. A PLEASURE TO DRIVE AND BE SEEN IN.
WIRE WHEEL OPTION
Just bought the T-bird in the Merlot color and Black Ink interior. What a beautiful car. Just took the hard top off today(4-24). It was a toss up between the T-bird and the Z34. Since my other car is a BMW530i, I didn't really want another BMW. Glad I got the T=bird. The seats could be a little more comfortable, but I'm not really complaining. Maybe I just haven't found the right angles yet.
The 6-CD changer in the dash. The color and the ease of driving
The seats need to be have more options to adjust them. The soft top is a little tricky to get on. Needs elbow grease.
Recently purchased a 2004 Merlot with Sand package. I have 2 other Thunderbirds, a '56 and a '66 that are show cars. I wasn't that fond of the new style when it first came out, but I grew to like it. When I saw the car in the Merlot color, I jumped off the fence and bought one. The performane was a little surprising. It really flys....I really liked the 2002 Tbird Blue, but didn't want to buy a first-year model.
I like the style and see few around. The porthole top is a real design cue from the past, and some people like it better with the top on.
Make the sunvisor swing to the left, instead of being fixed to the front only!
What a dream to drive! My wife tells me I drive better now than ever before. But it's the ease of handling of the T- Bird not my driving ability. There is plenty of power when you need it and the responce to your needs is so silky smooooth it's unbelievable. The ride is excellent and the comfort decent. The controls are not fancy but practical and accessible. It is a looker! Heads turn all the time as I'm driving to work--I drive it every chance I get. Try one! I guarentee you love driving it.
There are only a few draw back: 1. There are large blind spots when driving with the hard top on or convertible top up. 2. The trunk is very small. 3. It requires premium gas.
I absolutely love my thunderbird. The handling is tremendous. It's a fun car to drive and it definately turns a lot of heads. I couldn't ask for more. My wife just didn't want a convertable and now I can't keep her out of it.
the top is so easy to use and the facntastic get up is exhilariting
a slightly larger trunk would greatly improve the overall car.
Car purchased brand new in 2002 (no category in upper field)Excellent fit inside & out. Superb paint job. Ford replaced bad battery---that's it. Drove from Kansas City, KS /MO to Las Vegas, NV., handled tight, strong firm. quiet & comfortable on highway; quick to respond. Great Cruiser No mechanical probs. Great power at Loveland Pass at about 8,000 ft. in CO. C.P.
Engine Power very strong. This 3.9L must be de-rated for 252 HP. Excellent Transmission---smooth, no surges, lunges or clashes. Love the clear-coat metallic T-BIRD Blue paint. Quality soft top. Many compliments on road. Handles superbly. C.P.
We own the 2003, Desert Sky-blue Hardtop. Fun to drive, we love the car. Have had many differnt Ford's during our driving lifetime. Still have a 72,A/C,351 Cleveland Eng, conv. red/white,outstanding to org. soft top. Both in our local parade this year. Hard to decide which one to drive! All models have their shorcomings, the T-Bird..not many.
Removal hardtop. A new look when use, a new look, when not used. The Kiester- Heaters..great with the top down and a cool breeze blowing.
Just keep it up Ford Designer's. We've had some poor years with Model(s) design. They all looked homogenized.
I have owned this car for over 8 months and I find it one to the best cars I'v ever owned. I think the car got a bum rap when it was first interduced when the Dealers were trying to get an 25 to 30% more because it was a new car on the market. Than Ford Motor could not deliver the T-birds because of production problem. It left a bad teast in the mouth of the buyers that wanted one. There is one bad guy in this whole marketing program and thats Ford Motor because it's a great car and Ford just dropped the ball
The looks, the ride, and the sound system
The top to slide in the trunk
Drove the car about 100 miles with the top down in the Washington,DC suburbs. The car has great looks and styling. This car is fun to drive. The 280 horsepower from the 3.9L V8 engine gives plenty of power from both a standing start and when passing on the highway. The 17 inch V rated performance tires keep the car glued to the road.
Performance and road feel in this car are excellent The leather seating provides a firm, comfortable ride for driver and passenger. The convertible top is easy to take down and the optional boot cover provides a seamless fit.
At highway speeds (top down)the wind caused the back of the drivers seat to flutter. Removing the hardtopis tricky/ requires two adults. Persons over six ft tall are challenged to enter/exit the vehicle. Improved neck support from headrest that adjusted forward/rearward.
The new Ford Thunderbird is fantastic.I have been trying to decide upon a car for a year. I could not find anything that had style, class, power. Then a friend had mentioned the Thunderbird (I hadn't even considered it). I test drove one and bought it the next day. I couldn't turn it down. I loved it soo much.I didn't even take the hard top off to see the conv. side to the car. I love it.........
The style..It is a beauty
Hard top is heavy and it was not easy to get off the car (Have to use a tool which women like me do not like to use)
Nicest car I have ever owned or driven and yes I have owned foreign cars.
Design and Styling. Color scheme.
Enjoy the comfort and style T-bird brings to driving. Performs on a dime.Does need more trunk room. When handling on the road this car size and weight is more comfortable than many other cars in its class.
6 CD track player. Removeable hard top.
THE T-BIRD IS A GREAT CAR TO DRIVE. PLENTY OF ROOM ON THE INSIDE AND A BEAUTY ON THE OUTSIDE. I ALWAYS WANTED A T-BIRD WHEN I WAS A KID, NOW I FINALY GOT THE CHANCE TO OWN ONE. GET ONE BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.
BEAUTIFUL DESIGN, GREAT GET UP AN GO.
GET RID OF THE TACHOMETER AND REPLACE IT WITH A GPS SYSTEM.
After extensive research among all convertibles in the TBIRD class, I chose Ford's Hardtop Thunderbird Convertible because of how well it handled on the road. I went from a Lincoln Navigator (still in the garage) to the TBIRD, and found the TBIRD to be so much fun to drive. I can get 2 complete sets of golf clubs in the trunk. The TBIRD is larger than most sportscars and the insurance isn't based on a "sportscar", just a sedan. The doors are long. Seating is comfortable, and I have had ZERO problems with my "TBIRD". It's wonderful. Wouldn't change my mind, even if someone tempted me with a free Audi TT...
I love the size, it can fit 2 sets of golf clubs in trunk, goes from 5mph to 65mph in seconds, comfortable, sound system - terrific, love the convertible. Love to shift into gear.Steering's great.I feel safe driving my TBIRD even without the top.
Easier way to remove the hardtop, maybe use Mercedez Benz hardtop reclining technology. Other than that, I have everything I want in a "sportscar".
this car is more fun than my 64 mustang, but sucks up high test gas like a sponge. One day on i-95, i barely touched the pedal & found myself doing 120mph. it cruises at 80mph & it's the most comfortable car i've ever had.Miami to Palm Beach is 130miles roundtrip & it uses at least half a tank. if i'd known how much hightest gas it drank, i never would have bought it.but it's a fantastic car otherwise!!! So if gas isn't a issue, buy one.
comfort &speed & the looks i get everywhere i go.
put in a engine that uses regular gas.And a locking gas port.
I purchased this vechile in July 02. That Oct I drove the car to Fla. I averaged 29 mpg and avg. speed was 72 mph. Hwy mileage is excelent. City driving considering the v-8 is good (about 17)....... The interior is a little cramped (head room), but it is definitely a pleasure to drive. I am 5'7" if I were over 6 or 6"2" it would be tough to drive with the hardtop on
6 disc cd. engine performance two tone interior
I have only had my T-Bird for a couple of months but so far I absolutely love it. I can't wait to drive it every day especially as a convertible. My husband bought it for my 40th birthday and he compared it with the Mercedes and the BMWs, but he liked the T-Bird the best and so do I.
I love the way the car drives. I love how you can carry on a normal conversation without raising your voice even when the top is down and driving on the freeway.
I wish the trunk was a little bigger and a little more head room when the tops are on.
Just enough nostalgia combined with techno-styling makes this elitist-type personal driving machine a lot of fun to own and drive. Lots of comfort, lots of aftermarket accessories to personalize you T'Bird. (continental wheel, groundworks, fender skirts, porthole logos, chrome bezels, wood dash inserts, etc.). If you're getting a front end cover ("bra"), make sure you get it from Ford because then it will have the T'Bird logo on it and looks pretty sharp.I have always driven interesting vehicles and this new T'Bird is right up there with most of them.
The look with the romoveable hardtop in place. The interior comfort. The platinum silver color. Also, I got a kick from the salesmen involved.
Main gripe is the CHEAP! owner's manual cover and the inability to get a direct answer from Ford's "Customer Care" number (it's a joke!). A few weld spots could be improved.
The Car is peppy and fun to drive. I haved owned a 55, 56, 58, 60, and a 63 T,bird. This new Bird gives you the same fun and enjoyment of driving the old T'Birds and the comfort (a/c, cruise control, heated seats, rear window defogger, great sound system) and the technology of 2003.
Styling, Sound system, and the ease of converting it from a hardtop to a convertible.
This car is not only beautiful. It is fun to drive and preforms apond a split second. 0 to 123 mph in under 60 sec. I know for a fact. (done it) For only a 2 person car the aventure is surreal. I love my T-Bird. Pearl White w/black inter.
One handle release for the top to go down.
Make into a four seater.
i took the head rests off and now i can see better. is this legal? i have t bird blue w/white top. the best!
looks, radio/cd, did i say looks.
can't see real out that port hole. but so what.
I have owned many fun cars from AH sprite to Vets and even a Shelby 350GT the new Thunderbird is by far the most fun to drive and most bang for the buck. This is the first car that ever made me want the work week to end so I can take what my wife and I call "Getting the bird out of its cage for a flight" Congrads Ford you did it right!!!
Select shift trans and power with looks
Needs a makeup mirror for ladys and locking gas door with fuel over $2,25gal now. A compus in the rear view mirrow like my crown vic would be nice too
I find the t-bird to be an excellent cruiser. It has better riding quality than the so called sport cars. It gathers a lot of attention whereever I go. With the removeable top I really have two cars, although there should be device marketed to lift the top as it requires 2 persons to remove it. The mileage is good and a pleasure to drive.
I like the automatic positioning of the steering wheel and sound controls on the steering wheel. The body styling is smooth and not squared off like many of the new models.
indrease the head room.
It has been a great car for us for the last almost 2 years. Almost not problems except for a few minor fixes.
Removable top. Interior Design Looks
I love it! Its the best vehicle I have ever driven by far!
The retro style of it
The bird has been my toy now for 6 months and im still not totally convinced its the car I was looking for.It is a fun car to criuse with and get neat comments, but it is not for any adreniline speed junkies. The handeling is fair, along with just adequate power to play with. Ford should offer the car with a six speed and better handling qualities. The build quality is apparent along with a nicely appointed interior.
The retro look, smooth v-8 power, and fun factor are all there! It will stay with a bmw z-4!! Iknow!(not in the twisties)
Power, power, power. For 280 ponies it needs help. I suggest a six speed manual, and a better front suspension (she floats).
I was expecting a Mustang wtih a fancy body; but the new T-Bird in not a Mustang. Even with a short 104" wheelbase, its suspenion smooths out the road. Everything works flawlessly. I don't know why Ford does not advertise this model more.
Automatic top, good gas mileage, smooth ride, great looks.
Interior light behind the seats would be nice.
THIS NEW FORD THUNDERBIRD TURNS HEADS OF ALL AGES. WE LIVE IN NEW YORK & PUT THE CAR AWAY FOR 5 months that is the HARD part but it feels LIKE BRAND NEW EVERY SPRING! WOW WHAT A VEHICLE! TEST DRIVE ONE TODAY YOU WILL SEE! YOU WILL ALSO WANT 1 in your Driveway~!! A HAPPY NEW YORK DRIVER ;o)
HE CAR IS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY~!
NOTHING THE CAR IS AMAZING~!
Having owned several Thunderbirds previously,Ford really hit the mark this time. Besides being a fun car to drive, the styling is unique combining the old with the new.The ride is better than you would expect. With the hardtop in place the ride is better than average. The handling is excellent, considering this really is a relaxed cruiser. It's also comfortable and fairly quiet. As for the issue of not enough trunk space, you don't buy a car like this if you want a lot of trunk space. All in all this car is certainly a welcome change. This car is not exactly sluggish either. It's got plenty of pep.
The removable hardtop is a plus, giving you the best of both worlds. The dual climate control is also a good feature.
I would have to say the interior materials should be of better quality, the seating a little more cushiony.
I have had a great time with this vehicle. The only things to go wrong so far have been the following. The passenger side window motor and relay went out withind the first week of ownership and twice now when braking, it felt as if you still had your foot on the accelerator which was overriding the brake. Thankfully, by pushing down harder on the brake pedal the problem was corrected.
Handeling is quite good, and the cockpit is well layed out. I like the sound system and 6 disk CD player. The slight up and down movement of the windows are such a good feature with opening and closing the doors very easy.
This car is not for the very tall. I have two friends that love the car but, cannot drive it because of the interior head room, and with the top off the windshield is at eye level.
Recieved the car as a gift and was thrilled, at first. The car began to leave me stranded...engine would not turn over. Local dealership service dept. has tried everything but can find no answer to the problem. Car has now been in the service dept. for 11 weeks and still no answer to the problem. I absolutely love the car, but I do not love being stranded waiting for a wrecker...NINE TIMES!
Vintage look, body style, smooth ride. Enjoyable to drive.
Better technicians to solve mechanical problems.
I've dreamed of driving a T-bird since I was a little girl. Owning one now is not the least bit of a disappointment. The car handles beautifully, accelerates uphill like it's no effort at all, and feels solid and comfortable. I have always driven big, heavy cars, and the transition to a sports model was easy. This gorgeous car also functions as a dude magnet.
I love the body of the car. It is sleek and beautiful. The round window is classic.
The trunk space is a bit limited.
This is the best car that I have ever driven and owned!!! I love my Thunderbird. I love driving it fast, it handles so very well on curves, straight roads. My car has "guts", it seriously lets me be first when ever I drive. I'm not afraid of passing other cars because I trust my car completely and trust is what I need when driving my car.
1)excellent stero 2)the power of the engine 3)I look great in my car 4)Its a sexy car
None. Its perfect for me!!!!!
Bought this car instead of a Chrysler Crossfire. Fit and finish of the t-bird is just excellent. Did not buy for acceleration; etc. But this car is just great to drive whether on an Interstate or just on an around- the-town by-pass. Lots of quiet, smoothe get-up-and-go! Love it!
Looks and performance.
Let it alone.
tinterior spacehis is fun car to drive.not a vette or lexus but can do what they do.only problem is not reasonable trunk space, nor extra interior space.
ease of use of conv.top,
build in some extra storage space
The car is really fun to drive. The styling is simply beautiful. Comfortable seats, but there could be more head room. I'm lucky if I get 15 mpg in the city, but then I've got a lead foot. No one will beat it once the light turns green. Highway milage is a respectable 24 mpg. Interior storage space is dismal. The storage areas are just too small to be really useful. The raddio and AC area is a little busy with many small buttons, but works well. A couple of trim pieces (lower side of drivers seat and base of parking brake) came loose, but the dealer fixed them at no charge.
The exterior styling of the car is my favorite feature. Second favorite feature would be performance. The car is rocket fast and quite responsive in handling quick sharp curves.
Improve increase interior storage. The parcel shelf could have velcro straps to hold an auxillary CD storage case or some type of small box to additional storage.
I have owned and driven sporty convertibles for over 45 years. This is absolutely the finest of any I have driven.
Renew excitement of sports car with luxury ride and comfort.
Aftermarket luggage rack, wind protector behind seats.
If you are going to run away from home don't take this car because everyone notices the car
The removal top for winter driving because it is quite in the car
All wheel drive would be nice and also a retracable top would be out standing
It is a great little car! Not great on gas but is fast with it's V8 engine. It is a Ford and reliable too. I love my hard top and soft top. Two cars in one.
Easy and quick top to put up or down anytime.
Needs more upgrades to offer.
SINCE THIS WOULD BE FORDS HALO CAR I WAS HOPING FOR MORE STANDARD EQUIPMENT AND BETTER BUILD QUALITY
STYLE STYLE STYLE AND BEING THE ONLY ONE ON THE BLOCK WITH ONE.
BUILD QUALITY NEEDS TO BE JOB ONE
No problems whatsoever. LOVES to run at 80 mph! No leaks, no rattles! Ford hit a good balance between pure fun and practical - trunk not huge, but still big enough for a weekend trip or an ordinary trip to the grocery store, even with the top down. Seats could use a bit more lower back support, but are otherwise very comfortable. A/C is Great! Power tilt wheel is very convenient.
No leaks, no rattles!
Better exterior color choices! Cabernet paint / saddle interior in '04 is a HUGE step in the right direction!
Both my wife and I love this car for different reasons. We had always had a Corvette but the new T-Bird caught our eye.I like it because it's quite peppy for a stock car.We both like it's ability to turn heads. We have the Bond edition that is Corral(orangish/red) with a white hard top and black rag top.It is a very comfortable touring car.A few people have asked us if it's a '56 or '57!!The old timers like to tell us about their '50s T-birds.It's just a fun, comfortable, fast, sporty car.I understand Ford having a limited run because it is a retro, but why did they give it so little promotion? I've never seen an advertisement. We love ours!
I have been invited to participate in many parades to escort VIP's and the people praise the car and really dont care who the VIP is riding in it. Handles better and faster than a Mercedez 500 SL sports convertable at less than half the price Buy American again You will be pleasantly surprised!
We could use a little more head room for the taller men or those who like to wear a hat. Would like to see a better design for the boot when riding topless.
Fun to drive, lots of power ,poor and cheap finish .Very poor paint finish. Good A/c .Not noisy for conv. Cheap interior finish
Styling , Acceleration , Back road driving
Needs improvment for paint finish!!!
This vehicle is a great looker. I get only positive comments from everyone who sees the car and those who ride in it. It has lots of pickup and power. The only negative I have discovered is that the convertible top rattles a little when it is not up and is in its storage compartment. You can especially hear that noise when the hard top is on.
The body style, port windows, chrome on dashboard which is a 50's throwback. Two top feature-hard and convertible
For a two seater, it is perfection.
THIS CAR OVERALL IS A REAL EYE CATCHER. PEOPLE OF ALL AGES LOVE IT,AND MOST THINK IT IS A VINTAGE CAR,ESPECIALLY BECAUSE MY COLOR IS VINTAGE MINT GREEN. IT IS AN "EXPERIENCE" TYPE VEHICLE.YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR IN A MID 1950'S EARLY 1960'S CAR,BUT WITH ALL THE NEWER AMMENITIES.IT RIDES GREAT,HANDLES NICE & HAS A NICE V-8 ENGINE.
THE LOOKS AND RIDE.
EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS GREAT,RIDES NICE , PERFORMS FINE HAS AN AWSOME V-8 ENGINE. IT CAN USE MORE "OFF THE LINE" INSTANT POWER.THERE SEEMS TO BE A HALF SECOND DELAY FROM A DEAD STOP WHICH I DO NOT LIKE.THAT IS MY ONLY NEGATIVE COMMENT ABOUT AN OTHERWISE GREAT CAR.
What fun to buy an American car that's fun, rumbles almost like a TR6 and looks like it is meant for pleasure, PLEASURE driving. It has get up and go, good tracking and it is so, so American!!
My dad bought the T-Bird for part of my inheritance. It rarely ever gets driven. Most of the time it's in the garage. The car rides very smooth and gets great gas mileage. Certainly not an everyday car but it's great for that sunday drive.
The steering wheel automatically tilts when you turn the car on and off.
design flaw . .driver's seat belt flips back to nick the chrome side panel as well as black interiot . .have seen this problem on several. rag top up gives more visibility . rear view mirrow at night not great should have compass in mirror . cruise control hard to put on . .button in awkward spot . hard to put hardtop on if single person . need 2 people . overpriced for what you get . . dealer really scams with addons . etch glass, etc. can be done free at PD.
color desert sky blue . love interior matching package . love V8 can really touch the pedal and move out . .comfortable seats . .bun warmers great . sound system great . .looks and feels great .
rear view mirror . .easy way to put hardtop on . .driver's seat belt nicks door and frame everytime released .
I love my new T'Bird. The only thing Ford could change would be the ease of switching the hardtop, it is pretty heavy.
I can only say that every time i drive this car i am exhilarated from the moment i walk up to it until the minute i lock it up....looks, handling and a new feeling every time i drive....not too much for me to want with this ''touring gem''....great job ford, except for the lackluster promotion and at times treating this world class car like an average citizen in the showroom.......
Gotta love the looks....it's one pretty ''lady'' and has a purr that makes me smile when i ''punch'' it....
...did the Mona Lisa get a nose job???? this car is great......trunk?....at what price???.....DO NOT HAVE TO GUESS IF IT'S A 'Z' OR A 'TT'.... A LEXUS OR PORSHE...... MINIMAL IMPROVEMENT NECESSARY
A comfortable head-turner with power when you need it. More storage space than the vette... an emphasis on comfort but punch the pedal and enjoy the thrust. A hard top when you want one (in my case that means the winter months) a convertible when you don't. Six CD changer, stereo system that is as good as anything out there. A boomer's delight, revisit the past with the comforts of today.
Best looking car on the road.
Removable hard-top should be a one person operation.
I LOVE THE POWER& HANDLING OF MY 2003. IT HANDLES AS WELL AS MY 1981 CORVETTE. I'VE ALWAYS WANTED A THUNDERBIRD SINCE THE 1966 MODELS BUT ONLY UNTIL NOW HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO AFFORED!! THANK YOU FORD MOTOR COMPANY.
The most exciting car I have ever own. It is really fun to drive. I would recommend it to anyone.
Exterior Styling. Exterior Colors
Improve Interior Improve overall workmanship
1)The T'Bird really handles 2)Fit and Finish is above Fords normal 3)The negitive is getting in and out of the car with the tops on .(Head Clearence (NG). 4)The car has plenty of power.
Pick up and confort
Head clearence with the top up.
This card gains its superior ride from the Little Lincoln LS. The frame and drive train are exct Lincoln and that is why it is so good. The extra truck space and leg room come from the fact that the Lincoln LS is a 4 door car. Making a two door convertible from that plaform gave the design engineers lots of latitude. Stupid looking cheap plastic grill is this car's only problem. Too bad Ford didn't fire up more of the LS options like their mileage computer and other "free" features that are already built into the LS wiring harness.
Comfort of ride but tight control in cornering on country roads. Stereo is great with CD player ... adequatly loud!
Side pipes like the Cobra and Corvette of years past would be a nice touch -- with selectable muffler cutouts. An optional (aftermarket) billet straight bar grill we could change out to get rid of the anemic plastic.Upgrade Headlight plastic!
I have waited 25 years for Ford to return with a two-seater Thunderbird. I've wanted one since I was in high school. This incarnation is a close as anyone could come to the original spirit and design, and still make it a modern car which I believe is fast becoming a collector's item. I enjoy this car immensely and would not trade it for the world. I hope that Ford reconsiders their plans to end production in '05.
love this car
love the conv.top...and having a hard top... hate taking the hard top off and putting it back on... but love the look
would love to find a T Bird club in the South...
Great looking, A real head turner. Smooth driving, plenty of pick-up, corners great. Excellent sound quality in CD player. Am very happy with this buy.
Dual tops, love the porthole in the hardtop
From the minute I saw it at the SF auto show I knew I wanted one. I put 3K down and waited 8 months and when it was delivered to the dealer the sales mgr called me. He said the whole place was abuzz and I should come see why. As I drove up it was parked on Market Street and there was a crowd. Since that day this turquoise beauty has turned heads. People have come up and asked a zillion questions, some ask me for my card and laugh when they realize I don't sell cars. This thing sells itself. With or without the black hard top it's a delight to the senses.
Removable hardtop, sound system. Interior design.
Folding exterior mirrors.
This is the best performance car I have ever owned. Comfortable and performance all in one great package.
I love the retro styling and hard top option. Convertible or hard top? Depends on my mood that day.
EXCELLENT CAR TO HAVE, ALWAYS NOTICED ON THE ROAD
It has done all that I want it to do. It is comfortable and quiet. Exhaust sound is great. Heads turn when you drive by people. Have gotten a lot of favorable comments on the T-Bird.
Grill in front sticks out too far and even the slightest tap could result in damage.
This was a special gift to me and I LOVE IT. I am always stopped and asked, What is it? It just purrs, has a quick pick-up and is just darn fun to drive. The top is very easy to remove, although it takes two people, but Ford planned really well with the stand that they provide. So far it all works very well.
The color (Coral) and the removeable hardtop. It makes it looked almost better with it on, but fun without it.
None, I like it just the way it is.
This is a beautiful, powerful machine. It is truly perfection from the clean, classic lines to the stylish interior and the purring motor! The designers should be congratulated for including so much at this price.
The shape of the car is perfection, as an artist, I appreciate the beauty...and the mechanics...the ease of putting the top up (or down). It is truly a work of art. It has everything!
Should have had more exposure, I have only seen 5 or 6 others and everywhere I go, everyone wants to know what it is and have never seen one before!
It's a sweet looking car with lots of personality!
I drove to Ohio on the fourth of July from Atlanta It was the best ride I have had In 30 years, the gas milege was unbeleivible the handeling was superd. I loved the way the car shifted It was like being In a stick shift I'm from the 50s and the 60s when there was real cars this T Bird could easly fit in. I Love It I hope Ford does not stop making this car In 2004 They have a good thing going don't blow It.
The tranny and the power that It has. The looks are astounding.
I have dreamed of owning this car since I first saw a picture of it in 2000. It is so much fun to drive and be seen in. It is really a head turner and fast, aggressive and commanding even standing still. The down sides are the doors are huge and it makes it difficult to park it and get in and out with out bumpin another car and the low head clearance when entering and exiting the car always makes me bump my head and I am only 6 fet tall. Other then that I totally love the car
Retro interior Body styling In steering wheel controls Power
more hed and entry space for taller people. smaller doors
This is the best car I have ever had.
removable hard top
The car has very good power for getting in and out of trafic also passing on the hi-ways is a breeze(that is a pun). With the top down it is easy getting in and out of this car.My wife and I are in our 60's and we have a lot of fun driving around Cape Cod.I am not sorry for spending the money on this car.
The exterior gets a lot of second looks. My black one is definitely the way to go.
The windshied has too much day time glare.
I just finished getting a 1986 Mercedes 500 SL roadster restored. The Benz is now a really nice car, & a real attention getter. But my new Bird is just so much more comfortable, & two decades of progress have made the Bird my daily (& favorite) driver.
Love the Bird's looks, especially the two-tone (retro) interior & the view through the 30's style side windows
Air conditioning has a slight problem, & improvements in interior materials & horsepower would be welcomed.
It has a lot of power! Very responsive and the handling is excellent! Not as comfortable to the lower back after a reasonably long trip (over 2 hours)...But, all considered a GREAT and SWEET RIDE!
Power, performance and handling!
Easier way to install the hard top...Meaning the teflon seal is a bit of a challenge to ensure the seal is correct.
Great looks,poor room,legs and head.exceptional performance.great suspension.
Take off a plus,cornering great.
Head room and leg room and trunk space 3 inches more on each
Fabulous Car with excellent Appeal! It drives remarkably well and is a pleasure to be behind the wheel. Everyone loves it! Best investment I've ever made.
Fast pick up Handles well Smooth drive
I love this car. Heads turn everywhere I go. The 8 cyl engine has plenty of pick up and it handles beautifully. A perfect blend of the classic T-Bird with a European modern look. I think Ford did a great job designing this car.
I love the removeable top. For evenings or a business meeting, the hard top with the classic porthole is perfect. For sunny days or cruising on SouthBeach the convertable is is perfect
I do not care for the 2 tone interior, I ordered solid back and think it is more elegant.
Hard to get in and out of when the hard top is on. Also the drivers seat should have more adjustments.
The new Thunderbird is everything that you would expect it to be and more. As the Baech Boys sang, "it's fun, fun, fun." It has all of the elements of the original classic Thunderbirds and all of the modern safety and convienience of a modern luxuary car. All of this and unmistakeable style that doesn't look like anything else on the road. The only possible drawback is that you will be noticed everytime you drive it.
The full two-tone interior accent package is just the thing to really get you into the spirit of the 1950's. The large polished steering wheel feels good to grip and is like holding on to the good old days.
It would be wonderful to see the next iteration of the Thunderbird follow along the lines of the sleek 1961-1963 four seat Birds. A premimum four passenger, V8 powered, stylemaker would be great to see and be seen in.
Rides as smooth as it looks
Driver comfort and great looks
