2003 Ford Thunderbird Deluxe 2dr Convertible (3.9L 8cyl 5A)

Review

Car was in 1st 100 280HP 2003 cars. At 20,000 miles stuck caliper and bad throttle body. 30,000 miles bad transmission module which gave sluggish performance from beginning in service date. Interior is quiet with soft or hard top. Have no idea what MPG is. Who cares? Truly a gentleman's sport's car. Local dealer quick to fix all problems under warranty.

Favorite Features

Great sound system. easy operation of soft top and removal/install of hard top. Smooth ride. Exotic appearance. You hate it or you love it.

Suggested Improvements

Lighted reflectors on door panels. May be 2" length extension in cockpit area. Addition of compass embedded in rearview mirror.

2003 Ford Thunderbird Deluxe 2dr Convertible (3.9L 8cyl 5A)

Review

This black beauty had been sitting on the lot since Spring 2003. I purchased it with 600 miles on the odometer. I'm the first titled owner.

Favorite Features

Like the handling and performance of the vehicle. Styling's not bad either. Build quality is near perfect.

Suggested Improvements

Lighted vanity mirrors on a premium vehicle should be a given. Also compass should be included on a vehicle of this price.

Review

Car looks super -- very retro looking. It has great performance and good gas mileage -- hits 25 mpg on highway most of the time. Accelerates like a muscle car from the 60's once you get it rolling; the 5 speed automatic really keeps the engine boiling -- sounds good too. The torque of the V-8 makes passing effortless. More of a luxury ride than a sport car ride. A little soft in cornering but very comfortable on trips. Some body shake on bumpy roads. Stereo with 6-disc CD works well, sounds good. In summary, if you like the feel of a V-8 in a car with dramatic styling, you are going to love this car.

Favorite Features

Great looks, really draws attention. Don't buy one if you are trying to be incognito. Fun to drive. Powerful engine. Hardtop fits well and looks good. Lots of custom parts available to personalize the car.

Suggested Improvements

More headroom. Re-engineer the hardtop mounting so it does not mar the paint -- the stick on plastic paint protection strips are a ugly and cheap solution. Make suspension firmer. Needs auto dimming rear view mirror. Base price is too high. Make sure you get a good deal, then enjoy yourself!

Review

Well this is a nice vehicle. I watched the car for a couple of years before purchasing a brand new one. And there is one interesting thing about the vehicle. It has a winter hardtop salon type roof with the opera windows. You store this on a rack/gurney. When we removed the top to go to convertible status in late May, 2004 the paint all around the trunk where the top meets the roof very easily lifted up. Had to repaint. So here's Ford's 21st century fix. They send you a kit with plastic strips. You place it down along the outer reaches of the rear deck and than you place the top back on. Just not engineered well.

Favorite Features

Heated seats, excellent visibility. Interestingly enough it is quiet when itís only used as a rag top version. The hard top roof does make some racket.

Review

Compared to my previous Mercedes SLK, this has much more power and style, though the handling is no match for the SLK. It is more a mixture of luxury and performance. The engine is as strong as any muscle car I drove in the 60's, yet gets 17 - 26 mpg. This is a real head turner, and a hit with the ladies. The car looks much better with the porthole hardtop than the soft top, unless it is down! The build quality is excellent, with just 1 minor problem in two years.

Favorite Features

The coral paint with offsetting white top and white leather interior really make this a looker. Only 700 James Bond editions were built, making this an instant classic.

Suggested Improvements

Home-Link door opener and auto-dimming rear view mirror. Space is a bit tight if you are over 6 feet tall. The 6 CD in dash sound system could use a better sub-woofer...sounds great, but not outstanding given the price of the vehicle. Power retractable hardtop would have completed the deal.
