My 2008 Sable (Taurus twin) came with the synthetic blend. The Ford/Mercury dealers use synthetic blend for changes. They set the oil life monitor for 5000 miles/six months.

I think it's pretty impressive that in the 2008 Taurus, the new 3.5L Duratec hooked up to the same 6-speed automatic gets 2 MPG better on the Highway, and 1 MPG better combined compared to the 2007 Five Hundred with the old 3.0L Duratec. The excitement surrounding the current Taurus has been underwhelming. http://www.thetorquereport.com/2008/01/mulally_announces_that_a_new_f.html The current Ford Taurus, which was a refresh of the slow selling Ford Five-Hundred has failed to meet expectations. Ford addressed many of the issues the Five-Hundred had, except for the overly bland styling. The styling changes that Ford applied to the new model have not attracted the audience Ford was looking for. The new Taurus should address these issues.

Are you sure the dealer didn't put you into a 2007 Ford Five Hundred. It sounds as though the car you were driving has a CVT transmission. The 2008 Taurus has lots of go and the transmission is very positive. Either you were in the wrong model Ford or there was something really wrong with it.

I doubt you'll have any problems. The reason you have that octane is your elevation. I believe 87 is considered standard for most cars and you really don't hear problems coming from your area. Report back in a month or two and let us know what you think. Mine will be in soon.

yes, Mazda's take on the DT seems to be better than Ford's, read somewhere that it has less to do with the engine itself than it does with how it's mounted in the chassis. that and the bore/stroke ratio, materials used in the piston rod, crankshaft, balancing shafts, dampers, valves.

actually i think ther Duratec was originally designed by Porsche, believe it or not, back in the 90s when Porsche contemplated more front/mid engine cars. I will agree with you on this. The Duratec is a dependaple engine, and if the vehicle is loaded, i.e. 2 persons or more, the engine feels very smooth. What I am saying is that Ford engines are probably designed to be smooth revving under load. Under light loads, it is not damped well enough. You know I don't know. It's in a late 90's Ford Ranger pickup. It's still running great. My other brother also has a 3.0 in a similar aged Taurus. After 15000 miles with a Toyota 2GR ('06 Avalon) I can tell you it is probably one of the smoothest engines I have ever experienced. From 4000 to 6000 RPM it is absolutely incredible. not a function of a bottle of anything and really only a suspicion given Ford's history of making promkises they can't or have no intention of keeping. If my memory serves me correctly, it was turning around 1,700RPM at a constant 70MPH. BTW . . . the 28.8MPG combined over the 1,400 miles was with highway speeds above 70 - generally around 75 average. Here's a comparison between an 07 Avalon and a Ford Five er Taurus. I chose both an XLS and Limited Avalon vs the Limited Taurus. You be the judge.
