Well I also have a 2007 Acura TL Type S and 2010 Acura TSX Tech. Just traded my TSX for a 2011 Audi S4 340 HP 333 Pd Ft Torque 0-60 in 4.7 DSG Transmission and Qtr Mile in 12.7! Granted this is a 60K car. Now don't get me wrong I love my TL and won't part with it. I think the build quality is superior in every way. Love ... Read More
I have a 2007 Ford Taurus SE with 56K on it. It will not start on the first try. It turns over and dies. If I give it gas it will stay on. I went to Auto Zone to test the battery. It is fine but they said the alternator was low on amps. Any suggestions? I do not want to get robbed at the repair shop as this is my ... Read More
The following TSB fixed my 2008 Sable. (I have a pdf file which has a diagram, but I don't know how to include it here.) I also have had the same problem. I own a 2007 Ford Taurus with 49,000 miles. I was driving for about 20 minutes for both of my stalls. Both stalls came from accelerating from a stop of a red light turning left. HELP!!!
I have been using acetone for six months. My best mileage with acetone has been 38 mpg on a 420 mile trip. I drive 55 mph. My car is a 2007 ford taurus. I average 30-32 mpg city and highway. I think I can get as much as 40 mpg on the same trip,420 miles. I am going to try it a month from now. I am a retired mechanic and ... Read More
That is not a bad out-the-door price for an Impala. Figure if it was $23,400, and then they were getting the $2,000 rebate, the dealer was selling the car for somewhere around $20,500 (assuming an average sales tax rate of 7%). If they are in a State with no sales tax, then I would agree it wasn't the best deal. My parents have a 2007 Mercury Montego Premier and love it. ... Read More
A little research you say? Well let's see. Currently we have a 2007 Azera SE Limited. Also a 2000 Ford Focus Kona model with a 5-speed. It is just barely broken in with less than 40K miles so I guess you might conclude that I haven't driven it far enough yet to know what mileages it might be capable of? On most of the 60 or more vehicles that I have ... Read More
I think it's pretty impressive that in the 2008 Taurus, the new 3.5L Duratec hooked up to the same 6-speed automatic gets 2 MPG better on the Highway, and 1 MPG better combined compared to the 2007 Five Hundred with the old 3.0L Duratec. I'd say Ford definitely refined the Duratec V6: 60 more HP *and* better fuel economy. This new engine pulls the Taurus to 60 MPH in 6.8 seconds, ... Read More
Hi. I purchased my 2007 taurus in Aug., 2007. Since then on 3 occasions while either driving for 30 minutes or 3 hours my car has stalled while turning either left or right with no issues or check engine lights to warn me that something is wrong. As of today, the ford dealership has my car and has called me to tell me "they can't duplicate the problem". If anyone has ... Read More
With my parents in town, they decided to take a look with me at the car I've been telling my grandmother about (the Taurus SEL). A local dealer (Long-Lewis Ford) has windshield pricing on every car. An Ice Blue Taurus SEL with the Convenience Package (Dual Zone Auto Climate, Auto On/Off Headlights, 6CD, 8-way Pwr Seat) was $20,9XX. My dad liked the car, and said he'd definitely look at it soon. ... Read More
If you have a leak in the heater core, I would think that your coolant level would be going down. Also, you would smell the coolant-antifreeze inside the car. It might even be on your carpet. When your windshield fogs over, you would find it more difficult to clean the fog off the windshield. If you look under the hood, you will see two hoses attached to the firewall. Those hoses ... I bought a 2007 Taurus a few months ago and just had the water leak problem. After a long rainy day, the passenger floor had about a half inch of water on it. I remembered this leak item when checking the internet and knew I now had the problem. I took it to a local Ford dealer that was aware of the problem and they said they would fix it and ... Read More
I have said that I thought the new Taurus was a screaming value. I just put my money where my mouth is and bought a 2008 SEL to replace my wife's 2001 Taurus. She will be the daily driver of the new one. We spent a lot of time comparing and test driving the Taurus and the Fusion. At first, my wife liked the Fusion better because it is sportier and ... Are you sure the dealer didn't put you into a 2007 Ford Five Hundred. It sounds as though the car you were driving has a CVT transmission. The 2008 Taurus has lots of go and the transmission is very positive. Either you were in the wrong model Ford or there was something really wrong with it.
I think you'll love your Taurus. I just hope that Ford continues to follow they Path they started with the Fusion and the Mustang. Each year there is improvements in the Fusion...(more standard equipment) and Mustang (more interior options, more wheel options). I think Ford is learning that you have to make things better constantly. Ford is even making improvements in the middle of the model year. For 2007 Fusions, Job ... Read More
Oh, by the way they said since we noticed the leak in 2005 (but reported it in 2007) and didn't take it in for service then we missed the warranty period. And that if we would have purchased the 100,000 mile extended warranty we would be covered. So the best they could do was 10%.
Hey Captain Morgan, quit the bottle. honestly. The new 3.5L is not part of the Duratec family, but rather an all new design. It was engineered from the beginning, however, to have the same height and width dimensions as the current 3.0L Duratec. from here http://www.autoblog.com/2005/11/09/breaking-news-ford-announces-new-3-5l-v6-and-- - - six-speed/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Duratec_engine#Duratec_35 http://www.myfordedge.com/specs/2007-ford-edge-powertrain.php FORD’S NEW DURATEC 35 V-6 NAMED TO WARD'S '10 BEST ENGINES' LIST; V-8 GRABS TOP HONORS AGAIN http://media.ford.com/newsroom/release_display.cfm?release=24981
"I leave out the Chryler 300 because they were trendy and they are now "out"." Here are the top 10 selling sedans for May, 2007: (X means not a large sedan!) Only the Impala, Charger, and 300 qualify as this forum's mainstream sedans: It should also be noted that fleet sales for Chrysler were down for that month, so don't attribute it all to Hertz, Avis, and Enterprise. We'll have to ... Read More
Ford has made a lot of progress on quality from everything that I have heard. I think your comments on the Taurus are on the mark, it does seem to me to echo the VW style of design, a bit stark but clean. Many have commented on the generous dimensions of the interior. May I suggest that you also test drive the 2007 Kia Amanti? I know no one has really ... Read More
I have a 2007 Mustang V6 and a 2006 Fusion I4 SE. I wish that Ford would put the round hvac vents that are in the Mustang, the MKZ, and all of the Pick-ups into every car/suv/cuv/truck that Ford makes. I really hate trying to adjust the little square vents on the Fusion, which are basically the same as the ones on the new Taurus. The Edge and MKX can be ... Read More
In fairness to Ford, the new 2008 Taurus is more than just a rebadged 2007 Ford 500. The addition of the new modern engine and the new six-speed automatic transmission means the other half of an all new car finally arrived. The body and interior may be recognizable derivations of the 500, but the new drive train is transformational and deserves a new, more marketable name. I could have gone with ... Read More
So theres really nothing different from a Fleet only car than a regular car other than being leased out to someone. The Taurus SEL was very nice, The new 08 Taurus will look just like the Ford Five Hundred and I don't care for that boxy style look.
Other rental companies besides Hertz and Budget also buy Tauruses plus some private companies and government agencies. They were sold as "fleet-only" the last few years (like the Chevy Malibu "Classic" and some other cars). The dealer has to disclose it as "Prior Rental" or "Previous Daily Rental" when they sell if it came from a rent-a-car company. It is usually stamped on their window sticker. If this is the car ... Oh ok, So are all or most of the rental fleet cars purchased from Ford or leased from Ford? Then once they hit a certain mileage they get sent out to auction or sold on Hertz or Budgets lots?
Yes, the Hertz warranty works at Ford dealerships with no problem. You just call Hertz before you take the car to the dealer and then show the dealer the Hertz warranty paperwork. They bill directly to Hertz. I have used it. The program I had gave you 5 additional years and 75,000 additional miles on top of whatever mileage the car has at on your purchase date. For instance if you ... Read More
Would the Hertz extended warranty be honored at a Ford Dealership if repairs would need to be completed? I'm debating on buying an ex rental i've heard horror stories about how some rental companies do not complete oil changes on time and other maint.
The release lever you use to open the doors from the inside used to be shiny chrome and are now cheaper-looking black plastic. I doubt if this change saved $5 per car, but makes it look much cheaper. Hertz has their own program with money back guarantee, fixed prices and reasonably priced extended warranties that have better coverage than the the "Certified" program coverage you get from Ford. The Hertz fixed ... Read More
What are the black plastic interior door release handles? Well some of these ex rentals are Ford Certified which I can only get by purchasing from a Ford dealership, I think i would rather take my chances and buy directly from a Ford dealer instead of a Hertz or Budget lot.
Actually I can only find the 24V Duratec engines in the 2004's Ford didn't make the 2005's with the Duratec's.
I like your write-up and agree that the 2008 Taurus is a better vehicle with enhanced safety, and is roomier. I own a 2005 Taurus wagon and 1990 Taurus sedan and I really like both vehicles but the 500/Freestyle is a more advanced platform. On another note, Ford Fusion's built after January 2007 have enhanced front structures and perform better in the both the front offset and side impact crash tests ... Read More
I hear what you are saying, and it will be a long time before all the bad feelings engendered by Ford squandering its lead and market share of just a few years ago with arrogantly out of touch business decisions. An ineffective and rubberstamping board was part of it, but I digress. In the meantime consider that even though the 500 is plainer than the old Taurus was, it is a ... Read More
I've had my 2007 Ford Five Hundred SEL for almost two months now as a company car. I thought I'd share my thoughts with this board. My likes: 1) Excellent space and comfort, love the trunk. 2) Feels safe due to its size 3) Pretty good gas mileage My dislikes: 1) Very bland design 2) Interior design is way behind its competitors... just way too plain. 3) Lack of power. Although ... Read More
To each his or her own. I think it's a horse apiece. "Taurus" is definitely better than "Five Hundred." BTW there was a 2007 Taurus, which a lot of people seem to forget (ok, it is a forgettable car). It is still Ford's best selling sedan ever. So, having an 08 version makes sense, even if it won't work wonders for the car itself. (And Taurus X is way better than ... Read More
My dear host, your points are mostly well-taken. But I think you still are missing mine. NO DOUBT, no question there are continuing problems with the design of the Taurus/500. However, the name change won't hurt and might even help, given the recognition factor that the 500 will never attain, no matter how long it is called that. Ford will retool this banal car as soon as they can (and the ... Read More
The problem with the 500 wasn't the name, but the creation of a car nobody wants. Ford buyers who want a big boring car are going for the Crown Vic. Ford buyers who want a nice looking family sedan are going for the Fusion. Honda and Toyota have kept their brand names alive through continuous improvement. You know that your 2007 Civic or Accord is going to be a step from ... Read More
Inspired by Karl's blog post on design features he hates, I thought I'd create a topic here where we could discuss what design elements we love or hate, and even what cars we think are hideous. Some things that grind my gears... -Cars being grossly under-tired, or at least appearing that way. Wheels that don't fill the wheel wells should be discarded. -Brands having either a range full of lookalikes, or ... Read More
Hi Guys! I've been reading this board on and off for a while, but finally decided to share my thoughts. On Dec.31 1997 I bought a 97 Taurus GL with 5K miles. The dealer drove it for a couple of months and they just moved it into the showroom. It has all the options that I ever needed (and didn't need) - Leather, moonroof, 6-disc CD changer, power seat and etc. ... Read More
