Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum and just started to work on my 2006 Ford Taurus SE. I am not an expert mechanic, and don't have much experience fixing cars - but I do enjoy it and have the patience to persevere. The car is leaking transmission fluid. I believe this is because the transmission pan is no longer sealed well, due to an impact on it while driving. ... Read More
Hi! I have a Ford Taurus SES 2002 88,000mi. For the past several months I have had a strange problem but now sometimes the car does not start at all. I drive to work and the car is fine - starts up no problem. I go home for lunch and after about 1/2 hour I start the car again and it idles VERY roughly and has stalled a few times. When ... Hi all. My folks purchased their new Ford Taurus SEL today. It is equipped with leather, the convenience package (Auto Headlamps, Power Driver's Seat, Dual Climate Control, 6CD/MP3), SYNC, and Sirius Radio. MSRP - $26,615. First, the pricing. Was given an initial offer of $22,000 Out the Door, and after passing it on to my folks, they were happy with that. No negotiating necessary. The breakdown on pricing looks like this: ... Read More

Ok, but it has the same lines as a Town Car and the chrome (I think...). Also, I choose to clarify something. By the term Super Duty Superiority, it has been the best-selling truck for the last, what, 30 years? I also read somewhere that the F-150 outsells the Tundra by about 8 to 1. It also outsells the Ridgeline by about 13 to 1 (I don't remember where I read ... Read More
Nobody said you were thinking about the Azera when you put your exhaust system on. Again, YOU are the one that made the statment that putting the Borla exhaust system on made your Charger equal to the Azera. You said it, nobody else did. So don't get upset when folks jump on that piece of information and point out your Charger's shortcoming when directly compared to a stock Azera. This was ... Read More
October 2006 sales were bad for Ford. They had by then fully dumped the 2006-07 last run Taurus fleet machines. The Edge was being sold and the "new" Expedition was out as well. The Fusion had a yeer under its belt already. And sales for this October? Down another 16.4%. Nice going, guys. At least Mercury went up for a change, but that poor little division (with less than half the ... Read More
I disagree. You said the Accord is fabulous. How? And how does the Subaru beat it? Before he got a 2008 Taurus (a remarkable car), my brother had a Legacy (2006) that wouldn't stop blowing chunks. I think that the new Camry, the Chrysler, and the new/dead GM vans (to get the drift, but the Pontiac SV6 especially) look like hot dogs with bites taken out of them. I wonder how ... Read More
For those of you who are obviously clueless as to what the new Taurus is really about. I'll give you a little insight. Despite the fact that I'm technically challenged in discussing comparable specs, engine displacement, etc. I will give you my 2 cents. I started y car search in Dec. 2006 originally researching every square inch of the Impala SS. At the time, the SS was the large sedan I was ... Read More
Personally, I am very GLAD I have the Ford Five Hundred. (2006 SEL, new owner) I Can not STAND those 2 names, Taurus and Sable. It blows my mind that people would rather have a Taurus instead of Five Hundred? (I mean the name of course, same car!) I would have never bought my car if it was still called the Taurus. JMHO!
I have a 2007 Mustang V6 and a 2006 Fusion I4 SE. I wish that Ford would put the round hvac vents that are in the Mustang, the MKZ, and all of the Pick-ups into every car/suv/cuv/truck that Ford makes. I really hate trying to adjust the little square vents on the Fusion, which are basically the same as the ones on the new Taurus. The Edge and MKX can be ... Read More
I agree with your findings as a 2006 500 owner. And all the things you folks are hearing/reading about the New 2008 Taurus, quietness, room, safety, comfort are ALREADY in the 2005-07 500's. Except for some visual changes the only real differences are 5.9% interest and $500 cash back vs. 0.0% and $1000 cash back and the 3.0 Duratec that has been bored out to 3.5 with vvt for 57 hp ... Yes, the Hertz warranty works at Ford dealerships with no problem. You just call Hertz before you take the car to the dealer and then show the dealer the Hertz warranty paperwork. They bill directly to Hertz. I have used it. The program I had gave you 5 additional years and 75,000 additional miles on top of whatever mileage the car has at on your purchase date. For instance if you ... Read More
yeah right - the 500 already is having a great deal of trouble holding its value, can you imagine what will happen to that value when the model is discontinued and replaced by something called the Taurus that happens to have a real engine in it. You won't be able to give away a used 2005-07 500/Montego. Going one step further - given that the old style 2006 Tauri can be ... Read More
Let's face it, image, and overinflated egos, are what sell many of the high line makes, and many SUVs here in the good old USA. Manufacturers love it, as they make substantially larger profits supplying what egocentrics "think" they need. That being said I just bought a 2001 Sable LS Premium with 36,000 miles on the clock for my daughter who's in graduate school for $6,000. The car was never a ... Read More
I thoroughly disagree, my good host, that Ford is pulling in an old name. Up to last fall, Taurus was their best seller by far, even with total neglect. Problem is, the 2006 was Ford's best seller, but they all went to Hertz, Enterprise, and Dollar. Ford admitted they artificially inflated sales by dumping these cars on the rental market, and finally realized it was a bad idea. Their January sales ... Read More
Well of course you are right. Still, if I were Ford and thought a name change might net even 10,000 more sales, I'd do it. It is not meant to resurrect Ford...it is a small thing easily done, that might not make things worse, and combined with other small things, may or may not make a significant difference...but bottom line, it won't hurt. Too many people seem to be seeing this ... Read More
Do NOT use heat on your front end. You will destroy the balljoint, and even if you do intend to replace it you could also damage the wheel bearing, CV joint and anything else in the neighborhood whether by burning the rubber, making the grease run away, or softening the parts by annealing out any heat treatment done to them. Torches are for people with the wrong tools. Period. I posted ... Read More
Not sure if you have already acted. I copied the following from NADA used car prices. It includes prices with options. I would have the car looked at by a trusted mechanic (or diagnostic check of the car). It sounds like a good deal. Good luck. Prices are average trade and retail sale. Use the second prices to determine what is the price. Also, does the car have Anti-Lock brakes (if ... Read More
Hi Folks, I have been driving a 1996 Ford Taurus since 1998 and really enjoyed the car. It is now too expensive to repair and I was offered a 2006 SEL Taurus with 18,000 miles for $14,000, it is fully loaded. Can anyone offer any advise on what I should pay for this vehicle? I would appreciate it. Oh, I am a female buyer and not good at negotiating car deals. ... Read More
I would have to say the Ford Taurus is still one of the most reliable American cars on the road. My dad owns a 2000 Ford Taurus, has driven in Atlanta,(difficult driving) and has rarely had trouble with it. We've driven to many different places and have been find handling the large size of the Taurus. It's now 2006, 4 years have passed since he bought it (2002), and his Ford ... Read More
My mother in law just bought a 2006 Ford Taurus SEL for 12,700 on the road (ttl included honestly). When we were test driving it I noticed a rubbing sound and vibration in the steering wheel. The dealer replaced the passenger wheel bearing. We have now purchased the vehicle and I am noticing that the drivers wheel bearing is acting up now. I am not worried being that we have the ... I recently bought a 2006 Taurus and dealer has no code. They said they can retrieve it but I have to bring the car in. The keyless entry code can be found marked on the computer module. I have yet to look for mine as I really have no use for it yet.

stumbled upon this one : Ford Taurus owner manuals 1996-2006
Ford says 2006 will be the last model year of the Taurus. I once owned a Taurus. Its a shame Ford did not invest more into the Taurus to keep it competitive with the Camry and Accord. At one time years ago, The Taurus was the best selling car in the U.S., outselling the Camry and Accord. Good-Bye Taurus.
I tend to agree with "badgerfan". However with all respect I will add the following. In June I purchased a new 2005 car. My previous car was a 2001 Taurus. I looked at the 2005 Taurus and within minutes came to the conclusion that the 2005 was a virtual twin to my 2001. It was painfully apparent that Ford hasn't bothered to develope the Taurus. I couldn't see the advantage to ... Read More
"It states there that Taurus will disappear sometime before 2008. Primarily being sold to Fleet/rental car companies between now and when Ford eventually stops production" There seems to be conflicting information. Everything I have read states that the Taurus will end by the end of the 2006 model year. AND, that the Fusion is the DIRECT REPLACEMENT for the Taurus. It is all really a mute point I would think. Since ... Read More
Yes, Taurus likely will be discontinued completely in the next 1-3 years. It is still around for 2005 model year, though with less models available, only SE and SEL. May still be around for 2006. Ford is being vague. Replaced by Five Hundred sedan and Freestyle wagon/suv which are on the market now and are bigger than Taurus. Also in 2006 model year Ford Fusion will be introduced which likely will ... Read More
In an evident about-face, Ford has decided to keep Taurus and the Mercury Sable in showrooms through 2009. Earlier reports had these cars moving to fleet-only status at mid-decade to make room for the 2006-model Ford Futura and similar Mercury and Lincoln sedans based on the midsize Mazda 6 platform. Ford is also about to launch the Five Hundred and Mercury Montego sedans, which are Volvo-based and slightly larger than Taurus/Sable. ... Read More
Taurus will remain in production through 2009, primarily for fleet and budget minded buyers. Ford Five Hundred debuts for 2005 model year, and Futura debuts for 2006 model year, but Taurus will still be around for a long time.
Motor Trend: 2004 Mercury Sable: Recent indications are that the Sable will separate from its Taurus fraternal twin, instead evolving from the new Mondeo or the Mazda 6. Either choice offers a more dynamic vehicle available in multiple body styles. 2005 Ford Taurus: Taurus goes its own way without sibling Mercury Sable. Next-generation platform may also spawn other vehicle types, such as sport wagon and sport/ute. And the well-regarded Volvo S80 ... Read More
