Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable Sedans Pre-2008

Bought Taurus SES Deluxe

I've had a 97 contour (24 valve 5-speed) since 97' and put 165,000 trouble free miles (Amen to maintenance!). I recently looked at the Verona EX and was very impressed(acceleration issue way overblown - with traffic you CAN'T get 0-60 under 10 sec. anyway!).              Almost bought ... Read More...

2004 illuminated stuff

You're writing about the illuminated cruise control on the Taurus and some changes on the 2004 model, I have a question for anybody with a 2004 Taurus: In the new 2004 Freestar, Ford eliminated the illuminated glove box - a feature they used to offer for years, even in the old Aerostars. But they added illuminated controls on the steering wheel for cruise control ... Read More...

You might want to try current generation Taurus- seats may be different from your 99 as they redesigned all but the doors in 2000. Kept the optional Duratec however-has slightly more HP than your 99 also. Yes it is a very good engine. Note the 300M is a nice car, but is becoming an orphan- I believe Chrysler is replacing it with a 300C rear wheel drive-the Mercedes ... Read More...

97 TAURUS Sep 20,2003 (5:56p.m)

I just bought a used 97 Ford Taurus GL for my son last week.It has a am/fm cass with the CD controls on the unit but when I looked in the trunk for a CD changer it was missing. Did Ford offer a CD changer if you get the CD changer buttons on the head unit? or was it seperate option? My guess is mine came with a CD changer but the owners who had it before me took it out before they ... Read More...

"...thought that Ford was stopping production of Taurus and Sable at the end of '03, and was going to introduce their replacements in 2004. I even remember reading about it." Where? No news story has ever said that 2003 was the end. You're mixing up the story about the Chicago Taurus plant switching to Freestyle/500 prodcution in 2004. Read More...

100 % Failure Rate with Ford Taurus Transmissions

The Ford Taurus automatic transmission has done more harm to the Blue Oval Image than anything since the Pinto.      Three sisters in a family I know had each purchased a Ford Taurus. The 1990 Taurus transmission failed at about 100,000 miles so she just junked it and got a 1997 Ford Escort with manual transmission.      The ... Read More...

2004 Taurus

Is 2003 or 2004 the last year you can buy a new Taurus? Even though Ford will continue to make the Taurus for a few more years, I heard they will stop selling them to consumers sometime soon. They will only be sold to fleets (car rental agencies, government agencies, large businesses for company cars etc.). Read More...

Used 2002 Taurus with ESP vs new 2003 Elantra

I plan to buy a car for cash that I can drive for the next 5 years while I go back to school full time. For $11K I could buy a 2002 Taurus SES former rental with about 28K miles, the standard engine, CD, ABS and power seat. For $12500 after rebate I could get pretty loaded Elantra with even more equipment (except power seat). The Taurus will be bigger, quieter, more comfortable ... Read More...

Alignment Info from Mebcaux

Mebcaux - Thanks for the information and phone call. I sure wish I had gotten your post a few months ago. I sold my Taurus in late October to CarMax. I was tired of constantly getting it aligned and getting two new tires each year. Although it was a minor problem, I was tired of spending so much time at the tire shop getting it aligned only to have Ford tell me it wasn't ... Read More...

Ford Taurus/Mercury Sable Sedans Pre-2008

venus537 and edmund2460

Taurus was "updated" in 2000 model year, which is certainly not that long ago. Yes, this was not a complete redesign, but if you really look into almost all "redesigns" by all the competition you will find, under the obvious sheet metal and interior changes, that most of the major components-engine, transmissions, suspensions, etc, are very rarely completely ...
