Summary
What Edmunds.com says
The Ford Taurus is a solid choice in a family sedan. If you value feature content and domestic origin more than build quality and predicted future worth, this is a great car to consider.
Pros
Excellent value for the money, high level of safety equipment and crash protection, available as a sedan or a wagon, usually discounted with rebates and incentives.
Cons
Rental car stigma, poor expected resale value, no rear disc brakes on the sedan.
What's New for 2002
Floor mats become standard on all Taurus models, and the base V6 benefits from improved fuel economy. All but the base LX get security approach lamps, while LX and SE come standard with six-passenger seating. A slew of no-charge options are available on various Taurus models for 2002: SE gets a free power driver seat and CD player; SES comes with free leather or a moonroof (regionally available); SEL adds leather or moonroof, or both (regionally available). SEL also has standard adjustable pedals for 2002. A new SEL Wagon debuts. A new SEL premium package includes a Mach audio system, side airbags and traction control. Optional on SES and SEL is a new Luxury and Convenience group, which provides an auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass and heated side mirrors. Four new colors round out the list of changes.

Review
We purchased this car from the original owner. We have had to replace shocks, sway bars, and a wheel bearing at 100,000 miles and have had to machine the rotors twice over the past 25,000 miles. Other than the somewhat pricey repairs, we have enjoyed this car. Nothing special about it really, but it always turns over, even in our sub-zero Wisconsin winters. We have taken this car all over the Midwest, and it handles well on the Interstate, even in heavy snow. In fact, it handles the snow better than our AWD Trailblazer did. Our model definitely lacks in pick-up, but it's not like we bought a station wagon for sheer performance. As far as fuel economy, it beats any mini-van of that model year
Favorite Features
Third row seating.
Suggested Improvements
Separate comfort controls for driver and passenger, heat/air conditioning vents for that comfort of rear-seat passengers. With all the glass, this car gets HOT after sitting in the sun for any length of time.

2002 Ford Taurus LX 4dr Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 4A)
Review
First new car for the family. Have now 106,800 miles on it. Besides regular maintenance the only item that has failed was the starter at 106K. Other than that is been just regular oil changes, an a tune up at 106K. Easy to drive, comfortable. We have taken it on many long trips and has always performed very well. We get about 26 miles per gallon on the highway, about 23 in city driving.
Favorite Features
Good overall car. Can fit 5 adults with no problem. Trunk is very spacious and looks good on the road. The Duratec 3.0L 12 valve engine has performed great.
Suggested Improvements
Put anti-lock brakes in all models. LX model came with standard brakes.

2002 Ford Taurus SEL Deluxe 4dr Wagon (3.0L 6cyl 4A)
Review
I love the looks of this Ford Wagon design. It doesn't seem to age. The Gold color has grown on me, and now i like it. The car is reliable, excellent in all weather conditions (especially snow). Tons of room for kids, dump and coming home from Home Depot. Roof rack works excellent. It runs smoothly, I aways feel in control, has plenty of power when I need it. I'm bummed Ford no longer makes the wagon! I'd buy another in a second. I'd hightly recommend this wagon!
Favorite Features
The traction, the looks, the reliability, never needs much maintenance. Must have been a car not built on a Monday or Friday!
Suggested Improvements
Brakes have always seem to be noisy and not as smooth as they should be. Heat takes a while to get hot (in cold winter).
