Hi thom102, I have the same car and the same problem. The mech told me the engine was shot but I don't believe him. I suspected the timing chain also until I realized it had a 'chain' and not a timing BELT. If you find an answer please let me know! Mine has plenty of gasoline pressure and all the spark plugs fire (I pulled each one and checked 'em). When ... Read More

My 2002 Taurus with 45,000 miles is also going through what most others seem to be. I was driving to work and slowing for red light. I called a local trans. guy and his quote ... Read More
I’ve encounter this problem before, it gurgles like that. And golferric’s suggestion is right. I thought I needed to replace a lot of my ford taurus parts, but a friend told me that my injector might be leaking fuel and we’ve done the same test.
My 2002 Ford Taurus recently started having problems starting when it has only been off for about an hour. It starts up, but gurgles like it is not getting enough fuel and then dies. I can wait a few hours and it starts fine with no issues. Is this the fuel pump going bad or something else. It seems like if it was the fuel pump, it would die while driving. ... Read More
I have two 2003 Taurus. Both had water leaking into the trunk. I traced my problem and found the culprit to be the five black plastic fasteners which attach the bumper to the car. You have to take off the black plastic cover that surrounds the opening for ... Read More

I had the same problem with a 2001 Taurus. At first I thought the door wasn't closing right. It turned out to be a bad electrical connection. The (very good) mechanic checked the circuits carried inbto the door within the flexible wiring harness between the door and the body. This takes a lot of beating with use. He said the "ground" wire was broken, loose, or detached (I forget exactly). He ... Read More
Hello, did you ever figure out what the issue is? I've just started getting the same issue with an '02 Taurus.
I believe that all the functions you describe are controlled by the Generic Electronic Module (GEM). It is a computer module located under the relay/fuse box which is inside the car on the driver side to the left of the brake pedal. Check that all connectors are attached securely. You may try reseating the connectors. No doubt the Ford dealer can run diagnostics on the GEM thru the OBDII port and ... Read More

Having owned both Accord and (old) Taurus, I'd say living with one for a couple months might tilt the deck to the Ford. Most people use cars like this for mundane tasks; commuting, the family trip to the beach, the household runs to Wal-Mart, Home Depot and the grocery store. Same way I use my cars 99% of the time and I am a enthusiast (Focus SVT and Camaro Z-28 SS). ... Read More

i found out i had to get a long neck funnel so i could put transmission fluid in, there is a hole in my line, so i am getting that fixed this morning, hopefully that is all that is wrong with the car, thank you :)
i will check, do all taurus have a engine that sits on its side, so that would make it a front wheel drive
Its down behind the back right hand side of the engine beside the power steering pipes. Not the best design for the sake of a longer filler pipe and fiderly to get the dip stick back in, for filling you will need the long neck transmission funnel from most auto shops cost about a couple of dollars or less.

IS THE TRANSMISSION LINE HID, BECAUSE I CAN NOT FIND IT TO PUT FLUID IN MY CAR, IT IS JOLTING WHENEVER I STOP. NEED HELP
Geez you would think it was the serpentine belt from the way it sounds (your water pump wouldn't turn so it would get hot very quickly, and your alternator wouldn't turn so the light would come on). Stupid question, but are all of the pulleys turning? Next thing... as far as your car not wanting to run... your car's computer is very sensitive, and if the electronics are not just right ... One thing I've learned about Fords (and really, cars in general) is that it pays to balance and rotate the tires regularly. If you've been doing that, then perhaps there is a suspension problem. If you haven't rotated or balanced, you may have just let a small imbalance propagate to the point where it ruined the tire and may need to replace some tires. But if you have rotated and balanced, ... Read More

Could also be the drain for your AC system, which drains off condensed moisture.
It is probably just water that has condensed out of your airconditioning system. When your AC is operating, it cools the air and condenses water out of the air. This runs onto the ground.
Hi nice hint, I will try it. It is on the front passenger tire, and the level of the coolant reservoir is pretty low.... But I couldn't find the leak so far.... Do you know about some potential places or hot spots where it always leaks? Regards Lukas
Try placing a piece of paper under the leak to determine what fluid is dripping. If it's by the front passenger tire, it could be your coolant since the overflow reservoir is on this side.
Hi does anybody know what this leaking could be. It is for sure not oil, it is more like water. The fluid spot is located on the right side of the car, close to the wheel. Any idea if this could be coolant fluid or windshield washer fluid. Just by smelling at it, I can't distinguish :-( Regards Lukas
