I have a 1999 taurus with the same problem any ideas did youir figure it out??
I have a 1999 Ford Taurus Wagon. To avoid a wreck I put the car into reverse from drive and accelerated hard. The tires squeaked and all of the sudden the car made a grinding noise. When I put it up it into any other gear it made the same noise. I can only put it in park or neutral. When I jacked it up onto stands and put it in ... Read More
I need to get some info on how to change it out. Looks like it could be a hard one
try crutchfiel.com; they have all new faceplates (with the oval shape) that can accomodate an aftermarket stereo with a CD player. I have a 1999 Sable and I'm trying to find an OEM CD player that mounts in the trunk so I can use the existing controls in the dash stereo (the one like you have with the tape player. Thanks Ken
i have a 1996 ford taurus with a bad transmission i have a spare one out of a 1999 taurus only diff i see is the little grey box on the gear shift control can i change that box to work with my spare
Not to jump the gun, but what are some of the better used car buying sites.
I'd get a good estimate before shelling out for a new car! ;)
I am pretty sure I was fully stopped when I put it into reverse, but then I accelerated hard when I was in reverse, but yeah I'm almost positive its transmission problems after looking at it more closely and I might just buy another car.
Hate to say it, but sounds like you definately did transmissin damage. You never shift from drive to reverse when moving. How fast were you going when you shifted into reverse? If less than 10mph, the damage is probably minor. if, however, you were going full speed, then I'd say you're probably looking at a major repair(maybe complete overhall)Don't necessarily take the car to your dealer. Find someone local who specializes ... Read More

I have a 99 Sable. The trade in value is so low that I would be better off getting a Camry/Accord for $5k more when buying new. I just tested that theory. I priced out a 1999 Ford Taurus SE 4-dr sedan with the 3.0L V6, dark blue, with 100,000 miles on it, in average condition. Private Party Sale price from Edmunds was $1722 I then priced out a 1999 Toyota ... Read More
If you have a leak in the heater core, I would think that your coolant level would be going down. Also, you would smell the coolant-antifreeze inside the car. It might even be on your carpet. When your windshield fogs over, you would find it more difficult to clean the fog off the windshield. If you look under the hood, you will see two hoses attached to the firewall. Those hoses ... It is good that you are so enthusiastic about the products you sell. They are good products. However, "huge hit" could be perceived as an overstatement. I think what has happend to some companies is they listened to the automotive journals too much and are now getting re-introduced into the mainstream. Some people on this forum claim that style and image don’t matter, and that VALUE is king. Fine that is valid argument. What I claim is that Ford 500 is not a great value, and for sure it has no style or image. I am sure that most people here know that Ford 500 is based on the Volvo S80, the so called D3 platform. Well what is a D3 platform? ... Read More
That's what makes the three bar grill and new Lincoln grills a "good move" (though still too small a change to change much): you hate them, and lots of people like 'em--even if the vehicles to which they are attached need work. It's no big deal. They are recalling 1999-2001's in 22 northern states to put a shield around the front springs so if it breaks it can't puncture the tire.
