The problem to this persons issue is obviously outdated but this might help someone else with the same battery drain problem. I have a 1993 Ford Taurus SHO and started having problems with my New battery going dead over night. I accidentally found the problem when I reached under the passenger side seat. The power box for the electric seat was hot to touch (overheating) there was a small clicking sound ... Read More
Hi, I hope maybe someone can shed some light on this problem. I have a nice 1993 Ford Taurus, which I had an engine replaced in last year. Recently, something is draining the battery while the car is TURNED off. It is not the alternator or the starter and my friend's can not figure out where the electrical drain is coming from. I do not want to take it to a ... Read More
Thanks for the link. I have not given the Edge much thought because it gets less MPG than the Taurus and MPG is going to be a big issue in my next purchase. It would however be a great replacement for our 1993 Explorer. I would hate to think of the Taurus as Ford’s answer to the Buick, however, do turn 60 this year, but Im a long way from “Buick ... I recently bought a 1993 ford taurus, when i purchased it the previous owner told me that it needed a new master cylinder. I tried to replace it, did what the instructions told me to and the breaks still don't work. Any ideas to what could be wrong with it?
I purchased a 1993 Ford Taurus and it was driving fine when i got into it the next morning and put it into drive and reverse it would not move at all. What could be wrong with the transmission.
I have a 1993 Ford Taurus w/3.8L V6 with high mileage 180,00)+ that has been a reliable car. Of course things are starting to wear out on it and I have given it to my son to drive and maintain. It just started having problems starting in park like the battery was dead but it was not - turns out it is the neutral park switch not being made due to ... Read More
I had my starter on my 2002 Ford Taurus replaced about 6 weeks ago. Now, car is giving me the same starting problems. I am taking car back to shop tomorow. I am assuming mechanic will tell me starter is defective and will replace with a new one. However, I wonder if something else could be casuing the problem. Do you know of any history of starter problems with 2002 Taurus? ... Read More

I own a 1993 Ford Taurus. The transmission is jerking very bad. It is mainly when I accelerate but it will also do it while cruising. I'm not sure if it does it in gears other then overdrive but I think it may. Any ideas on what the problem may be? Know any good web pages for taurus transmissions?
Ford has had this problem forever. My 1993 was recalled and a basket installed to prevent a spring failure from damaging the tire. At the time of the recall Ford would replace the springs if a problem was found. The basket is a simple bolt on repair that was a no brainer- a really simple fix for a dangerous problem. I cannot believe that Ford would not put it on all ... Read More
Bought a 1993 taurus in '94 for about 10k. Including 75k extended warranty from ford. 150000 miles and still gets me to work. Have had minor problems in the last ten years but all in all a cost effective commuter. The low initial cost for a used one cannot be beat by the imports especially if you plan on being the last owner. My last commuter was a 1982 Olds Omega ... Read More
Anybody out there have any problems with transmission on 2000 or 2002 Taurus? I have one of each. So far, so good. However, I owned a 1993 and a 1995 Ford Taurus. I had to replace transmission once on the 1993 and twice on the 1995. High mileage on both old cars at the time (over 175,000 miles on both). Except for tranny problems, I love my Taurus, which is why ... Read More
Throughout the 7 years that I had my 91 Toyota Camry I went twice to Ford dealers to trade to a Taurus wagon, preferably. I needed something roomy and safe for my growing children. First time 1993 I didn't get the Taurus wagon basically because my wife right there and then,in front of the salesman and manager, mentioned that after seeing the wagon she really wanted a minivan. Taurus wagon would've ... Read More
The Ford Taurus automatic transmission has done more harm to the Blue Oval Image than anything since the Pinto. Three sisters in a family I know had each purchased a Ford Taurus. The 1990 Taurus transmission failed at about 100,000 miles so she just junked it and got a 1997 Ford Escort with manual transmission. The 1993 Ford Taurus was the best of the 3 and went 115,000 miles before the ... Read More
I have no complaint against Ford as my 1993 Ford F-150 Super Cab LWB 4 WD pickup with 6 cylinder engine is an excellent road vehicle. Sort of difficult to maneuver in the city but serves its purpose as a hunting and fishing vehicle. The 2001 Blazer LT 4 WD with 4.3L V6 gets much better gas mileage and is quieter and smoother on the highway but has much less space. ... Read More
Check engine light is on. My code reader reports, "EGR valve position circuit below min. voltage." I don't know which to change, the EGR or sensor that sits on top. Did anyone have this problem or can tell me which to look at first. The EGR goes for around $50 and the sensor goes for around $50. Don't feel like wasting $50. 1993 Ford Taurus, 3.8L
I had Pirelli P400s on my Sable for years, good wet and dry handling tire. Currently have Dunlop SP sport A2 on my Taurus, very good also. Be really fussy about tires - cheap tires defeat averything else in your car, like cheap speakers on a good stereo. Great info on tires at Tire Rack, you can redo the search based on preference for handling, smoothride/ quiet, etc. When you open ... Read More
I own a 1993 Taurus SW with a 3.8L V-6. The engine has blown a head gasket(no surprise on the 3.8). I am reluctant to do a full head gasket repair since the car has 135K on it. The mileage is past the 100k extended waranty Ford is now giving out on 3.8L head gasket repar. I had another Taurus repaired under that plan and it never ran well after that. ... Read More
Is $3,000 too much to pay for a 1993 Ford Taurus? It is GL, 4 dr. sedan, with 75,000. We have had Taurus' in the past and have had transmission problems with both of them. Glad you loved your Sables. This is the second Taurus/Sable I've owned. 1. 1993 Mercury Sable GS = 2 head gasket jobs Cost = $2800 2. 1997 Ford Taurus = new transmission + other Cost = $4000 Luckily, the Sable's head gaskets went under a three month warranty I got with the car in 1999. Then, they went again a little under a year, so it was also covered under warranty. ... Read More
I'm helping a friend buy a new Taurus-A SE with cd player and little else extra. There is a $1,500 rebate from Ford,so i was thinking or suggesting to dealer that he take another $1,500 off the list price. Is this too conservative? If the rebate is comming from Ford, should we expect the dealer to discountan,additional,say,12-15 per cent?Or is this expecting too much off? By the way,I just sold a 1993 Taurus I bought ... Read More
I'm new to this section of the Townhall and I am hoping that everyone is as helpful as in the Pickup topics. I have a 1993 Ford Taurus GL Sedan with the 3.8L V-6 (100,500 miles). I am interested in cutting my losses with this vehicle and just getting rid of ... Read More
Don't know where you are coming up with poor reliability for Fords and poor dealer service. I live in RI and we have two Ford dealers in this area that are outstanding. I bought a 97 Taurus GL in Jan 98. Put 30,000 on the car and the only thing I've had to do is fix an interior light switch. I understand this is a fairly common problem. Personally think the ...
