Hyundai Azera vs Toyota Avalon vs Ford Taurus vs Chevrolet Impala
Re: Avalon [tjc78]
Ah, sorry. I've recently started shopping cars with (and for) my grandmother, and we had looked at the Taurus SEL. I was thinking it came with Stability Control standard. I do understand the difference in TC and SC, but was apparently misinformed about the Ford. And yes, things like auto-temp and auto headlights are things that narrow the price gap, but you have ... 1997 Taurus GL (A little off topic, I know)
Good afternoon everyone, I just wanted to say that although the current topic is the new Tauruses, I bit the bullet and bought a '97 - With the 3 liter V6 (VIN starts as 1FAL - Not sure of the engine is the Vulcan or the Duratech, but it's got some oomph), because of a rear end collision that totaled my car (1991 Caprice, with the 305). I must say, I love this car - Although ... Read More...

Taurus Rising II
"If you deliver only what the customer wants at the moment, somebody else is going to blow you away with something that goes beyond your product, or service, in quality, or innovation..." Don Petersen recounted in his memoirs about the original Taurus program that took six years to develop---and the 1983 T-Bird was a by-product of that program. Petersen left ... Read More...

Re: SABLE/TAURUS [edmund2460]
That reply is quite humorous. Seeing how you have in short stated what I have said. As far as the reliability of the sable and the Taurus I can say its better than people say. Yes in the 80's the technology was bas but look at all cars in the 80's in the same class. As far as American cars go, their were few mid sized cars worth wild. And Dodge had the worst of all. So there ... Read More...

When we have visited her I occasionally drive it, and some is at highway speeds, so I do know that engine, brakes, steering and transmission are all working properly. Before my current Taurus Duratec, I owned a 2000 Vulcan Taurus, so I do know how that era generally behave. Vulcan engine is pretty much bullet proof. I do know Ford had some transmission issues when ... Read More...

It is interesting to read in Mary Walton's "Car: A Drama of the American Workplace" (it is inside look to developement of 1996 Ford Taurus, so called DN101) how things were in late 80s and early 90s. Very similar btw. Camry wasn't competitor yet though (it was a compact econobox then) and main competitor was Accord. She writes that 40% of Accords were sold to fleets ... Read More...

Buying New Car
Folks, I am looking at buying a new car for my wife and one of them is a Taurus with the larger 24 valve engine. Should I stay away from Ford and the problems some are having? I have read the posts concerning the Mercury Sable and its problem with tranmissions and this engine. Looking for pro and cons as we have to replace our 1991 Buick Skylark ( Blew a cylinder last year ... Read More...
