2009 Ford Taurus X Wagon Limited 4dr Wagon (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
We needed a car with a third row of seating. After driving all kinds of models, we decided the Ford Taurus X was the most comfortable and easy to use. The car isn't terribly distinctive, but it is fairly user-friendly. We bought ours used and have only had it about 5 months, but so far we are very happy with it. It has almost as much room as our old Windstar van and it is has a very comfortable ride. The best part about it is that it has two rows of usable seats in the back. This particular model was only made for a few years but it is well worth it if you can find one. If not, go for a Flex which is almost the same thing.
Excellent ride, comfortable seating in all rows and a solid construction. The car has a lot of bells and whistles which I could live without, but some drivers might find them nice to have. I have only used the synch a couple of times. It seems a bit complex to use, but it is a nice feature.
The steering wheel doesn't telescope out, so depending on how tall you are, it can be uncomfortable to drive if the seat if pushed back. Also, the accelerator seems to be placed awkwardly and it can make your leg tired unless you learn to rest your foot differently. Finally, while there are a lot of nice interior features, the middle console is so cluttered with buttons, it can be distracting to find one when driving.

Feels solid, comfortable, flexible, enough muscle for family care, very safe, fair mileage (18 mpg), nice ride, low wide stance very attractive. Found reliability problems with battery dying, trans computer malfunctioned disconnected trans while running, front end strut connectors poor quality. Been driving Fords since early 70's. Not as reliable now. Wish Ford focused on reliability longevity and had more comfortable steering wheel (bigger diameter please with thinner ring).
Car feels solid has excellent family safety features, good solid soft riding feel, trans pays attention when you slow down to remember speed automatically, rpm provides good gas mileage feedback, very flexible and has wheelchair/walker friendly doors for easy side transfers.
Make them built to last at least 10 years (forget the phoney green recycle stuff-"if it last longer I'm not filling up the trash dumps faster"), put in better batteries like Die-Hard at the onset, bigger steering wheel for easy turning, otherwise love the car.
2009 Ford Taurus X Wagon SEL 4dr Wagon AWD (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
Overall the car rides nice, but the seats are very uncomfortable. Leather is not real leather, some type of bonded leather or whatever it is. Lots of issues with the window on driver's side not working. Been in the garage 6 times in 7 months for repairs. Center console very outdated.
Ride and handling.
Better quality. audio and climate controls very difficult to use and sirius satellite is a joke. It takes 6 presses of a buttons to save 1 song. Needs a major overhaul for sure.

The overall experience with this car is that its adequate. I would rate it better, but for a few glaring shortcomings, mostly associated to poor dealer service, which may not apply to those who have better dealers. The SYNC system is complicated and buggy. Does not interface with certain ipods well. The phone feature has glitches too. Can receive calls but not place calls. SYNC phone reps and dealer cannot figure it out. I don't recommend SYNC. Next problem: half way through model year, Ford changed the oil filter size without notifying aftermarket publications. All books in auto parts stores will direct consumer to get wrong filter if their car was made after 1/16/09.
Probably would be the SYNC feature if it worked as advertised. Since it doesn't, its Rather worthless. For this kind of technology, Ford likely would have had a better and less troublesome system it they had Apple design it versus Microsoft. As it is, its a disappointment
Make the SYNC system simpler and less buggy. Also with regards to the oil filter problem above, owners of vehicles made after 1/16/09 can expect to have great difficulties locating that new size filter. They are as rare as green hair to find in any auto parts store. Even dealer didn't have one.

I studied, read reviews and visited many show rooms before purchasing my Taurus X. This was the best purchase of my life! The vehicle is economical, reliable, beautiful, roomy, and comfortable. I take many vacations with my family of 5, making this vehicle perfect for our needs. The seating configuration of 2 front, 2 middle and 2 3rd row, opens up the available space and allows passengers to see/communicate well. I am thrilled I had the opportunity to purchase this car and am saddened that Ford has decided to discontinue it. BIG MISTAKE FORD!!!!
My favorite features are: its smooth drive, affordable and user friendly luxuries (navigation, serious radio, heated seats, entertainment system, leather interior),seating configuration and size.
The Taurus X does not get great gas mileage (18-19mpg).
