Well, I have searched around on the Net and cannot find any concrete proof that Ford is working on a redesigned Ranger. It is my hope that Ford takes the eventual redesign as serious as Toyota did with the Tacoma and Nissan did with the Frontier. I have a 98 ranger my problems are simillar. but i have a check engine light on what it could be is a vaccum leak at the upper intake plenum it's plastic and warps or cracks ford has since came up with a new one thats not all plastic Read More...

I have a 2004 ranger 4.0 5sp. auto that has intermittent problems!! When it runs good it runs great!!! :) When it runs BAD it looses power, takes off in 2nd gear and rapidly shifts to 5th gear by 25mph, air blows cool only, Will not down shift until full throttle at 20mph, Brakes during panic stop become rock hard and won't stop!( 1/2 normal braking), Sometimes shuts ... It so happens that I bought a new 2 wheel drive Ford Ranger XLT supercab in 1989. I paid $8700 for this truck: 2.9 liter V6, 5 speed manual, cruise and tilt.
