2001 Ford Ranger Regular Cab 2dr Regular Cab XL 2WD Styleside SB (2.5L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Ran good for the first 40,000 then $2300.00 transmission repair due to electronics. Lifters rattle under small hills. Oil pressure guage broken. I have towing package but only towed a small boat three times. Glad it wasn't more -- a lot more would be broken. I WAS a FORD nut. No more.

Best Features

Interior.

Worst Features

Transmission and lifter rattle.

2001 Ford Ranger Regular Cab 2dr Regular Cab XL 2WD Styleside SB (2.5L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Purchased used with 7500 mi in 2003 for
$7000. Ride is harsh and some bumps
will cause the rear end to jump.
However, I am extremely please with the
gas mileage that has increased from mid-
20's at purchase to 31 mpg at last
fillup. Have owned the truck for 14
months with absolutely no maintenance
problems. Very dependable -- this
summer did a trip from VA to WI and
back with no mechanical problems. The
ranger is the best looking little truck
out there. Will consider another one
in the future.

Best Features

Great gas milease with the 2.3L four 5spd.

Worst Features

Get rid of the vinyl bench seat and replace it with a cloth model that has a center armrest. Do something about the axle jumping around on bumps. It can be scarey, even when expected and is unwarranted in an otherwise appealing vehicle.
