    I have a 2001 Ranger 4x4. Once in a wile the front right disc brake will lock up when pulling forward. can back up then pull forward about a foot then it locks up. Also when I turn left into a parking spot and hit the brake the peddle will go to the floor.

    On older models with 2-wheel ABS, the light could come on when the brake fluid was low. Usually only when the brake was pushed. In any case, check your fluid level. ABS is complicated, requires different procedures to even 'pull the codes', etc. That probably why the shop did not want to work on it.

    Never heard of 'oblong crankshaft belt and pulley'. 'Chatter when accelerating' is ping. I bet you have the 3L motor. Many of these ping, and the only solution is to use higher octane gas. These 3L have pinged for the last 15 years and Ford seems to not want to re-design them to stop it.

    I have 97 Ranger that is chattering also. A Ford dealer told me that there is problem with the crankshaft belt and pulley. I guess the pulley gets oblong. This information was reluctantly given to me. And it was also "unsure". 300 dollar possible fix. Why can't dealers be honest? I understand the grey area, but huge corporations? I guess that is how they get so big.

    Sup?I just got my 05 ranger egde back from the shop and the truck was making the same noise. So the machnic drove it and said the belt haddn't been tightened properly. so go to shop and have them take it for a drive. That's the best advice I could give you.

    Actually there are two 2.3 liter engine. The first one was introduced in the 80's and was placed in Ranger until 1997. In 1998 the engine grew to 2.5 liters. Ford introduced the current 2.3 liter mazda developed engine half way threw the 2001 model year.

    ABS - really need to have the codes pulled for this one. It could be the sensor that is in the read differential housing is bad.     I have to choose between two Ford Rangers: 2001 4.0L XLT SuperCap w/ 7,000 miles or a 2003 3.0L XLT S/C w/ 30,000 miles.These 2 Rangers are priced between $500.00 of each other. I will use this truck for my contract painting work. My 93' 3.0L Ranger worked fine for me. My concerns are the 4.0L gas mileage & it's relatiablity. Any suggestions?? Thank you.

    My 2001 Ford Ranger has a light metal clicking sound when you turn either right or left. The tire store where I had my brakes done told me it was the bearings (4 wheel drive) I took it to the dealer and he said it was the lower ball joints. Has anybody had the same problem with this truck?

    The driveline problem can most likely be resolved by getting the newly designed all aluminum driveshaft.
