Problematic

Vehicle: 1998 Ford Ranger XL 2dr Extended Cab 4WD SB

After reading the reviews on this site, I realized that my Ranger has had just about every problem in the book. It now has 145,000 miles and a list of parts I replaced in the few years I've owned it, including fuel pump, spark plugs and coil, cam sensor, 2 alternators, and more that I can't even remember. It takes a quart of oil every 1000 miles, which is tolerable. Never had any clutch problems. Power windows work sometimes, interior light stays on when doors are closed, and "Door Ajar" light will stay on for a while. A/C pump starts randomly and squeaks. Ball joints go bad a lot. Noisiest power steering pump I've ever heard, even after replacing it with a new one. Power could be better.

Great little truck!

Vehicle: 1998 Ford Ranger XL 2dr Extended Cab 4WD SB

I am 16 years old and this is my first car! I can not say how pleased I am with this vehicle. Performance: a 3.0 liter V6. Can move the truck but is not an engine you can dog all day long. Comfort: Seats are very comfy and have great lumbar support. Back seat is fit for cargo only but my 8 yr old brother can fit back there. Fuel economy could be better. I get 18 city/22 hwy. Fun to drive, easy to drive. Shocks could be better but it's a truck! What do you expect? Interior design looks alright but I'm going to pimp it out soon! Exterior design looks awesome. Looks way better than S10s. Build quality: built to last...built to love. Reliability: very few problems!

Disapointed

Vehicle: 1998 Ford Ranger XL 2dr Extended Cab 4WD SB

All the platic parts break. Engine compartment is very noisy -- fan belt, air conditioner, power stearing. Passenger seat reclining mechanism broke. Shifter knob came off, never to stay on again. Sometimes the window washer works, sometimes it wont. Door sensors have false readings often.

This is my second Ranger. Good, nimble little trucks but won't haul a whole lot.

Great trucks

Vehicle: 1998 Ford Ranger XL 2dr Extended Cab 4WD SB

This is my second ranger. My first was '89 I traded in on my '98 with 198000 miles on it and still running stong as the next owner was able to locate me. This '98 iasi the 4 door model (option on 500 made in'98)Super Cab 4x4 with the 3.0 engine XLT loaded. I now have 98800 on it and am ready to trade on a new if numbers are right. These rangers get me where I need to go on and off road, really off sometimes, never stuck as it has the possie.
