My truck started with a problem with the lights dimming out under acceleration. Also, gauge needles moving (vibration effect) while driving. All fuses are good and cannot see any shorts behind cluster. Battery and alternator were tested to be good. Finally, the lights did not come on for a day or two and then suddenly they just started to work again. I since replaced the light switch. Any ideas on the ... Read More

If so, is this something the average person can do themselves?? I am fairly competent with basic auto repairs but don't want to venture into the unknown.. Thanks in advance for your replies :)

Sounds like you could have a bad battery...but did you clean your battery terminals. Also, if you have a volt meter, check the voltage at the battery when the engine is running. It should be about 13.6 volts DC to charge the battery properly.

Can someone please tell me how to remove the "Slave Cylinder Cable" from a 1993 Ford Ranger 5 speed manual transmission. I am doing a tranny swap and I have removed the old transmission but it is hanging from the truck by this cable.
The hood on my 1993 ford ranger catches but does not close down all the way. Is there an easy fix?
I just scored a 1993 Ford Ranger 4x4, 5-speed, extra cab for a measley $500. It needed/needs very little work ie: steering column (got one), cap (got one for $50), rear spring hangers (getting those installed next week). However, what I really want are the fog lights. There are holes in the plastic under bumper specifically designed for lights. Where can I get these lights without going to expensive dealer? Also, ... Read More

There are much better Ford Ranger forums out there which contain lots of enthusiasts who have done lots to their Rangers. Like a 3.0l Ranger pulling in low 16 second quarter miles. It all depends on how far you want to go. Have you ever looked at the exhaust ports, or your exhaust manifold? There is clear oportunity for improvement, but it will cost money and time. But the point that ... Read More

"Reliable, powerful, cheap" Choose two. This seems to be the best way to pick your truck. Ranger is cheap and powerful, Tacoma is reliable and powerful, Nissan is cheap and reliable, S10 is cheap. Here's my opinions on this: Ranger: If you want a cheap truck, you might as well buy this one. Yeah, it's been a bestseller for 18 years, and yes, it may have the strongest naturally aspirated V6 ... I have to say this forum is great. Lots of info on various trucks. Although it should only be for pickups, especially Tacos and Rangers. Can't see why anyone would compare a an SUV to a compact pickup, but everyone has a right to their opinions. The trucks I've owned below and opinions are based on my experiences. I wanted to share them with everyone. My first truck was great. It ... Read More

I own a 1993 Ford ranger, 2.3l 4spd automatic with just under 140,000 miles. I think a lot has changed since then. My engine has two spark plugs per cyclinder. The Ranger then switched to a larger stroke (I believe offhand) to make it a 2.5l. Then the 2.3l was reengineered with 4 valves per cylinder, and I believe still 1 spark plug per cylinder. But the gas milage should be ... Read More

This would be the fastest Ranger, and with the auto, the best towing Ranger. Yet, I do not even see a 4.0L offered in a regular cab model that isn't a 4wd.
