Ford Ranger Starting Problems

Ford Ranger still wont start!!!

okay so i shimmed the starter on my 1991 Ford ranger Supercab, and now not only will it not start it wont even let me try to start it. I tried reconnecting the battery cables and it started arching and before that the starter had started spinning of it's own free will. What i think it may be is either the relay or the solonoid. I replaced the starter in my 1991 Ford Ranger Super custom cab XLT, started it twice with no problems then started it again and with the engine running the starter just kept on spinning so i thought it was the wiring fixed that and then i went to reconnect the battery and it just started spinning on it's own. i checked if the keys were in the ignition and they weren't. ... i would not abuse a truck that's going to be 10 years old in a couple of days. Especially one with 138K miles on it. I do understand the urge to floor it once in awhile as I use to do the same with my 1991 Nissan Hardbody with 150K miles on it. Age and mileage means a lot of worn parts on the truck that may go out at anytime. Abusing it usually means those parts will fail faster. ... Read More...

My power steering pump is making a howling sound. I was told that certain year rangers and taurus had this problem.(I have a 1991 ranger) Any way I was told that by adding dawn fabric softner that it would quite the sound and perhaps save the pump. I had a similar problem with my 97 Ranger. I cleaned the MAF sensor with electronic cleaner and the power came back. It has been about six months and now it has started doing it again. I cleaned the sensor about two weeks ago and the problem is presenting itself again. I think I am going to replace the MAF sensor completely. Try cleaning the MAF sensor and see if it helps.
