From what I am seeing here in the way of problem areas, is it safe to say the best Mustang for reliability is the 2004 model, or older? I realize the improvements for handling, and in some, but perhaps not all ways in styling, but what about every day rock solid no problems driving? Wow....good thing I have a nice purple mustang GT, 1996, 46,000 miles...STiLL. Ordered my 2005 GT Premium Nov. 16, 2004.....yes, 2004. No mustang. End of June 2005 re-ordered a 2006....since my 2005 wasn't going to be made. Well, here it is, October 21, 2005 and still waiting for my car. It'll be a year in November since I originally ordered. The 2005 V6 Stang only comes with single exhaust from the factory. The only way it would have duals would be aftermarket. I wish Ford made the dual exhaust on the GT more prominent, like the duals on the previous 2004 or like 2005 GTO with big chromed tips. That can easily be changed aftermarket. Read More...

"Actually 66% of all Mustangs sold are Automatic." Yes. But the reason is NOT that the manual shifter in the current Mustang is a bitch to operate. It is that most people prefer automatics. The Corvette almost outsold the V8 Mustang GT last year, 40k vs 40k in sales. Remember the vette costs $20k more. So it wasn't the higher pricing, same with GTO. GTO sales are up 50%+ this year vs last year, not bad, can't argue that. I paid nearly $29k for my 2005 GTO under $1k rebate and employee pricing. As much as you want to give credit to the Mustang's formula for being just right, you have to admit that the 2004 (and previous years) Fox Mustang STILL sold pretty well, despite being a wholly inferior car. This is the real story. .Ford did NOT start with a pretty clean sheet for 2005 Stang. They copied the 1967 styling, real original, right? Are they going to retro Stang2 or Fox body for next generation? Then Ford used or heavily borrowed from the 2000 Lincoln LS chassis as their starting point.
