Long distance trip review

Vehicle2007 Ford Freestyle Limited 4dr Wagon (3.0L 6cyl CVT)
ReviewI just got back from a LONG trip through many states, including going through the Appalacian mountains. The trip with my family totaled over 2,200 miles. The Freestyle was a great vehicle, offering plenty of room for a family of four with lots of luggage. My experience was that it had PLENTY of passing power. The CVT would ramp up to 5.8K RPM and the car would FLY by anything on the road. Of course, it sounded like the world was coming to an end. Overall, there was not much to complain about. The computer said I averaged ~23 MPG over each tank, which is not bad for a car full of people and luggage.
Best FeaturesI really enjoyed the CVT, which is much better than an automatic trans., though it does take some getting used to. It is odd to hear an engine rev up to 2.5K RPM and stay there as the MPH ramps up. Under moderately heavy acceleration, the RPM sometimes dropped as your speed increases.
Worst FeaturesI would have liked to see a performance/gas save mode. With the CVT, it would be nice to have the transmission hold a certain RPM, say 1.5K as long as the engine has the power reserve to push it along. It seems to be more performance oriented by default.
