2006 Ford Freestyle Wagon SE 4dr Wagon (3.0L 6cyl CVT)
We replaced our 1994 Aerostar with the 2006 Freestyle SE in 2007 and have not been disappointed at all. It offers a very smooth, comfortable, and quiet ride. We average 20 mpg in town and about 22-24 on the highway. The steering is tight, but can turn on a dime. The only problem we have had is with the second row seating getting stuck and not always wanting to fold flat. Overall we are very pleased with the performance and absolutely love the CVT transmission! The vehicle had 32,000 miles when we bought it and now has 41,000. To those reviewers who say the vehicle has no power I am at a loss as to why because it moves when you want or need it to and it doesn't hesitate.
CVT is wonderful!! Great cargo space. Very comfortably fits 7 passengers of average size.
The cloth seats while comfortable are really bad about staining. The material used for those seats should be replaced. Adding a strap to close the hatch would be nice, especially for short people like myself.
We bought this used with 31,000 on it, we haul a lot of stuff due to making repairs on house, this is one large roomy vehicle.. Still getting used to all the bells and whistles but can't say a bad thing about it traded in a Cherokee for it and have not had one bit of trouble with it so far. We have had 6 people in it and all were comfortable with plenty of elbow room
just about everything especially how roomy it is.
Wish they had put some kind of a hatch closer on it, maybe a power one that would close at the press of a button
Purchased it new, mostly hauling stuff and occasional people. Only problem was the brake recall. Only service - minor front end work, new tires (too early, imho) and regualr services when the change oil light comes on. I did buy the extended service from Ford, so I hope the tranny fails before 75K if it does at all. Oh and if you drive it carefully you can get 25+mpg on the highway at 65mph. I know because I have done it.
CVT, auto climate control, MPG, AWD, 7 passenger capable and large hauling capacity.

If I were buying a new crossover, I would certainly consider the Mazda CX9 first. The new Chevy/Buick Enclave second. The Freestyle (now the Taurus X) lacks serious driving and performance refinement. No matter how conservatively you drive it, you can sit and watch the gas gage go down. My only hope is that I can trade it in under the cash for clunkers act.

Just hit 55,000 miles with no major problems. Love taking this car on weekend road trips or even drove cross country a couple of times. Second row seat gets stuck sometimes. Love how the third row seat flips up or down depending on what i am hauling. 3.0 engine is just good enough, but a little more would have been nice.
Room, third row flips up or down, 10 cup holders, wow!, 20+ miles to the gallon, CTV smooth transmission.
