I have been having soooo many problems with my 2006 Ford Freestyle and would love to issue a formal complaint!! Is it too late? This is by far the worst car I have ever owned, and the extraordinarily large numbers of repairs it has needed is outrageous!!!

FORD FREESTYLE THROTTLE BODY, TRANSMISSIONS ARE CAUSED BY MAIN COMPUTER MALFUNCTION. I was extremely lucky that someone finally figured out WHY!!!! In my opinion is the reason why ford hasn't been slapped with a major, major!! recall. No one outside of the Ford dealerships can figure out were the problem actually begins. Most Shops don’t want anything to do with it. I found a very talented transmission shop that did! I ... Read More
Hi Sandy, Here's my experience. I have a 2006 Freestyle. In October 2009 at 55,000 miles I had to have the transmission replaced (thank goodness I had the extended warrenty. I am ha this same problem now wot y 2006 ford freetyle. Do you know if i relace the throttle when it be okay? It cuts off now and we have to start it agian while driving. Can you explain this to me? What should I do?
Until/if a recall is issued, in the meantime you need to try to have them clean your throttle body. Do fuel induction service. about $125-150. From what I have read and understand, the part is expensive ($800-900) and may not be available. It gets clogged and causes the lurching. Without a part redesign, cleaning probably should have been part of the regular maintenance on it. Our car is not lurching now ... Read More
Can you tell me the number for the investigation? I would like to look at it and also make a complaint. My Freestyle began "lurching" last September when the a/c was on and stopped over the winter. There are occasional problems with the "throttle-by-wire" system on the Freestyle reported by some owners. That might be what you are seeing. My rear brakes are dragging (Freestyle 2006) for the second time in two years. Can anyone tell me where I can get a copy of the Ford letter regarding the rear brakes?
If memory serves.. I believe that Ford went to a 5 yr/60k powertrain warranty on all '07 Freestyles in August 2006. It was made retroactive to all '07s that had already been sold.. and was also applied to all unsold '06 models still on lots at that time.
I have a 2006 Freestyle and I received a letter from Ford telling me to touch base with my dealer to have my rear breaks looked at; they looked at it and scheduled me for replacement breaks. They replaced all the break hardware in the rear. No issues. Side note, at 45,000 miles, one of the most trouble free vehicle I've owned. :)
How can anyone say this is "your problem" when so many drivers are replacing rear brake pads every year??? I got my 2006 FS pads/rotors/calipers replaced last year at 27K and was just told this week that they are "dangerously" worn again! I find this inexcusable on the part of Ford. The problem, not the symptom, should be corrected. I did not buy this car "at my own risk."
I have read through manay of the posts here and while some do not see this as an issue, most agree otherwise. What my question relates to is what exactly did Ford do by just replacing the defective parts? My car was purchased new with 8,000+ miles on it- dealer demo. Before the first year was even close to being up- my car made the worst grinding noises and I took ... Read More
Hey Everyone. I own a Black 2006 Limited AWD (w Navigation and rear entertainment system) with 7 passenger seating and prefer this configuration to the 6 passenger with 2nd row buckets just because it gives me more options. I don't really need 7 passenger seating all the time, but it did come in handy a couple of times so far. And you can sit 3 people in the 2nd row (which ... Read More
I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle purchased new in April of 2006. This is my wives vehicle and I rarely drive it. On Jan 19 2007 the vehicle registered just over 11,000 miles. I drove the car and observed a loud grinding sound. I then stopped the car and inspected the rear rotors. There were deep scratches and grooves in both rear rotors. The car was immediately taken to the dealership. ... Read More

Today I took my 2006 Freestyle to the local Ford garage to have a routine oil change and get it inspected. (My brother happens to be a Tech at this garage.) The oil change went well but my car failed the inspection due to me two front tires being bald (on the outside of the tire) and my front end in desperate need of an alignment. I've never driven my car ... Read More
Hi Karen, I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle with 22K miles. It has been trouble free until this morning. I put it in the garage last night, and this morning it would turn over, but not fire. The only unusual thing I can think of is that before I started it last night to put it in the garage, I used the key to open it manually (habit from my older ... Read More
2006 SEL, leather, reverse sensing system, 16,700 miles, purchased new in May 2006. My wife thinks our Freestyle is “sporty”. While I wouldn’t go that far, it is a very competent vehicle. It handles very well in normal driving conditions around the city and on the Interstate, as well as on the twisty and hilly state highways and side roads we travel on our 50 to 100 mile jaunts to wine ... Bought this car certified used with 10k miles from Ford dealer in Sept 2006, it was about 10 months old; has about 26k miles now; needing new tires for winter; Conti tires are so-so; we really like it a lot having 2 kids, wife, hubby with room to spare usually; the engine and CVT don't seem to be any big deal; handles well, very smooth on hwy, takes bumps well, very ... So I discovered this link: http://www.gemsen.com/Ford/Pdf/Fall_Asleep_door_lock_tip_2006_Ford.pdf It looks like Ford started putting in the auto-unlock feature in vehicles in 06. The Perimeter lighting and the auto-lock ones work on my 07 Freestyle, but the auto-unlock one doesn't honk so I'm assuming it just isn't there. Not exactly sure what the lock inhibit is so I never tried that.

2006 Freestyle SEL - 33,726 km on it - combo highway and city driving. Rear brakes were squealing - took it into Ford dealership - and they said that I really should have brought it in at 20,000 km to have their $199 brake inspection package. I was a bit perturbed at this cause in my 20 years of driving Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Nissan and Mazda never had brake inspection pkg ... Read More
This week we took our 2006 Freestyle into the dealer for an oil change. They said the rear brakes were almost gone. The car has >19,000 miles on it. When I asked how that could be he indicated that it was how we were driving. Later that day I discovered that a TSB had been issued by the NHTSA Office of Defect Investigation. Our dealer won't pay for it, and the ... Read More
