Ford Freestyle CVT Transmissions

Re: Need new transmission at 23k miles [sully320]

The warranty booklet for a particular model year says it all. I did hear that '07 model years got a longer powertrain warranty, if memory serves me, something Ford did to assuage fears of CVT risk from buyers. My '05 only had a 3-year one, but don't know about '06 models that mike_nyc has. Warranty booklets for model years 2005-2006-2007 Freestyles are available ... Read More...

Freestyle Transmission Failure

Ford Freestyle Transmission

I have a 2005 Ford Freestyle limited. On Saturday, the differential spider gear pin just fell out (I actually found it and pieces of my transmission cover on the ground) and my transmission literally broke up inside the car. (I guess the pin holds the transmission cover on and in place). Regardless, the car only has 42,100 miles on it and of course it is out of warranty. ... Read More...

tranny repairs

I purchased a 2005 Freestyle Limited AWD in February with 41,000 miles on it, Now at 49,000 it is in the shop for $2,600 in tranny repairs. Input shaft bearing is shot. Is this the typical problem others are having? Does anyone know if Ford is helping with these repairs if the car is out of warranty. I have been driving Fords for years (5 SHO's) and this is the 3rd Ford ... Read More...

"I have a 2005 Ford Freestyle SEL. My headlights and tail lights used turn on when door was unlocked with the FOB at night. that feature misteriously went away after I deactivated the auto lock. I tried to get it back by reactivating aoto lock, but no dice. Ford dealer, said that is NOT a feature on this vehicle, and lights ONLY go on when key is in ignition. Does anyone ... Read More...

Buying a Used Freestyle

Re: used 2005 freestyle [coldcranker]

Another thing about the Ford Freestyle compared to a Grand Caravan is that the Freestyle does better in crash tests at http://www.iihs.org and also http://www.nhtsa.gov . The handling and steering is generally considered to be better in the Freestyle as well. Read More...

Re: used 2005 freestyle [realgem63]

I have an '05 Freestyle SE front wheel drive model with 48,000 miles. There was a brake pad recall. Note it was only the brake pads. It was easily fixed by replacing the front and back brake pads when on axle's pads went down below 1/8 inch. The new pads work fine and last well. Ford pays for everything, and your Ford dealer has the details, or you can go to http://www.google.com ... Read More...

Ford Freestyle CVT Transmissions

Re: 2006 Limited AWD [vrm]

Responding to vrm's post immediately above: I think thats a great summary. I did think the 60,000 mile CVT (filter + fluid) service is $300, though. I bought the FT-178 part number filter myself from rockauto.com for about $40, and the special unique fluid for the CVT you can only get from a Ford dealer for about $100 in fluid alone. Then its about 2 hours labor, which ... Read More...
