Well I am jumping into the discussion about the back brakes on my 2005 Freestyle. Just had the rear pads checked out because of what I have read on this site and they are worn out at 19500 miles. My dealer gave me the number for Ford and I called and they researched the problem and said there are not tsb's or any information about this problem. I would like to hear from ... Read More...
Ford Freestyle Maintenance and Repair
Re: Rear Brakes worn out at 25,000 miles [rav4man]
You are lucky, My 2005 Freestyle is at Frontier Ford (San Jose, CA) and they will charge ~$500 to replace both rear rotors and the pads. Mileage 24,500. Front side 50%. The saga started about 8-10 months ago with "dragging" and vibrating rear breaks. The explanation by the dealership was; do not worry the vehicle is safe, Ford is aware of this problem and working ... Read More...
Rear Brakes worn out at 25,000 miles
My 2005 Freestyle is at Goodyear right now for a $270 rear brake job, needs rotors and pads. Brakes went right down to metal on rotors and started to "Grind". 25,000 miles mostly highway. Front brakes are at 50% life left. OK. The only thing the tech could figure is maybe parking brake was dragging just enough depression to not make brake light go on. I will check this ... Re: Broke Foglight Lens [nat84]
"...cranks a lot longer before turning over .." There was a Tech Service Bulletin for the Freestyle on that subject, I seem to remember. Ah yes, I found it: Number 06-12-7 JUN 06 -- Give that number to a Ford dealership. "Cold-starting problems: The engine may be slow to start (long cranking time) in cold weather, requiring reprogramming the PCM. (2005-06)" Read More...
Screeching sounds
Last week I called Ford Service to report that my 2005 Freestyle was making extreme screeching sounds (sounded like it was coming from the front somewhere) when pulling forward and backward. I had AAA come and get the car and tow it to the dealer, which upon arrival it had stopped. I had let the service man hear the screeching on the phone, but to my dissappointment ... Read More...
Re: Starting troubles??? [saram]
I had this problem a couple of weeks ago. I went to start the car and after about 4 failed attempts where the engine would crank but not engage I was about to freak out. I sat in the car for a minute took a deep breath and tried again and presto it started. By the way I have a 2006 limited AWD Freestyle. I don't know what the problem is but it hasnt happened again so I guess ... Read More...
Instrument Panel
I have a very hard time seeing the instrument panel on my 2005 Ford Freestyle in daylight. The letters are white and if the sun is overhead or in front then it is a struggle to see the speedometer and other gauges. I have no problem at night when the panel is lighted up. Is there a fix for this? :( Read More...

Re: 05 Ford Freestyle Brakes [carny1]
Could you be a little more specific? Is it the pads only that need replacement? And is your Freestyle an '05 model that was perhaps built before mid-February 2005? They went to a different pad after that date. Read More...
