    news gets better , the freestar 2005 has an issue with water leaking onto the seal of the computer , it degrades then the computer is cooked .     Ford issued a recall--- it's pathetic that they took years after the investigation was announced by the NHTSA.     Ford is recalling 2004 & 2005 Ford Freestars to replace the TORQUE CONVERTER! Replacement won't happen until spring as parts aren't available. Does this mean they're making NEW converters? They need to! I was hoping to sell my 2005...this makes it a little more difficult!

    Ditto for my 2005 Freestar with 100k miles. It was running fine and after pulling away from a stoplight; transmission just started slipping ( 100% slip ) and from there the story is the same. Haven't spent the $3500 yet - will probably scrap the car. My 2000 Windstar did similar at 30k+ miles. So I bought a new 2011 Sienna. I'm a Toyota man now.

    I have a headlight issue with my '05 Ford Freestar SE. Headlights work fine on low beam, but when switched to highbeam, headlights go out entirely. Have changed bulbs and all fuses are intact. Any ideas? PS this problem is on both sides.

    My transmission ended up costing me 1966.27. Once they got into it other parts were worn so I ended up having the transmission rebuilt. Mine wouldn't go into any gear. I hope you don't end up with the same problem. I parked mine in the driveway on a Monday night and got in it Tuesday morning and it would move.

    Well, my 2004 Freestar torque converter just went AGAIN! We had it replaced at 79,000 miles and now tonight driving my daughter home from college it went again at 130,000miles. We had it towed home and not sure of what to do with it. Ford just can't get away with this. There was no warning....just like before. Why can't something be done about this!

    Why are the 2004 and 2005's the only ones being investigated? I have a 2006 and I had to have my PCM replaced. I had my van in the shop more than 25 times in 3 years because of all of the issues from the PCM. It was because of this site that I found out what the problem was.

    Hi, new to forum. posted my observations and fix on my 2005 freestar. could this info be useful in pursuit of recall? I found the Ford fix to be ineffective and got water in anyway. I think the infiltration is from inside as a result of poor quality control when insulating the cross member.

    At our house, we switched from Chevy to Ford about fifteen years ago, but after this experience, I do not think that I would go back to Ford unless they did something to rectify this situation.
