Has anyone had any luck with the 2006. Mine died last night in the highway with 3 kids in the car. Towed to Ford dealer and the torque converter needs to be replaced for only $1700. Reimbursement post-sale
Anybody find out anything about reimbursement after the fact? 04 Freestar; blown tranny replaced in '09; traded van '10. Just called Ford and they instructed me to take my receipts to the dealer to inquire about reimbursement. Is there a cut-off date? Also, I punched-in my VIN here and, so far, all I get is a message "2004 Ford Freestar - Currently, there are no listed recalls for your vehicle."

FORD FREESTAR RECALL!
Ford is recalling 2004 & 2005 Ford Freestars to replace the TORQUE CONVERTER! Replacement won't happen until spring as parts aren't available. Does this mean they're making NEW converters? They need to! I was hoping to sell my 2005...this makes it a little more difficult!

Just got off the phone with Ford.....they are NOT recalling the 2006 Freestar....that has the identical transmission/torque converter problem as the 2004-2005. UNBELIEVABLE! Will NEVER buy another Ford automobile!

Can I add my complaint here ? I'm in Canada.. I love everything about my 2004 Freestar EXCEPT the transmission. The torque converter failed (worn away where it contacts the input shaft) at 93,000 Kms. Just 3 weeks after the warranty, but my Ford dealer said "sorry, nothing we can do". Thanks guys.. Dealership in Pa refused to work with me even after showing them the hundreds and hundreds of documented cases of premature transmission trouble nor did they care about a pending class action suit, they want $3300 to fix it. I ended up taking it to a Ford Dealer to analyze the problem. They said there there is corrosion on the PCM connectors. I took out the PCM and the pins look clean. Is it possible that the PCM has suffered electrical damage? At times my car runs fine, but other times I can't start it or put it into gear.

I would love to sue them, They left me with a $20,000 Judgement by the bank, on a voluntary Repo because of the dealer not being able to fix the PCM after 3 times I gave it to them and went and bought a Toyota while I still had credit. Purchased a 2004 Freestar 11 months ago. We've now spend $1,400 in repairs to date. Took it in a couple of days ago to find out that the PCM we had replaced in Aug is already causing problems again. Ford Claims our problem isn't dangerous
I haven't posted in a very long time...the failure on my 2004 Freestar is described way back in the 100's in this forum. I wanted everyone to understand that Ford claims that our failures weren't dangerous because engine power, breaking and steering were not lost! A car jack, part number 3F2Z17080AB, that comes standard with 2004 Ford Freestar Minivans, bent while supporting the van causing the vehicle to fall, crush and kill the owner that was under the vehicle doing repairs in the right front wheel well.

Warranty on replacement tranny
Had transmission replaced on 2004 Freestar in Dec.2008 at 87,000 miles. Tranny is now slipping. No surprise here. I got out the paperwork for the 36 month/100,000 mile warranty. Do I really have to return it to the Ford dealer that replaced the transmission? It went out while on a road trip over 6 hours away from home. Anyone know the answer to this?

I had to have the whole transmission rebuilt last summer. Then after that I had problems with the air conditioner which cost $400 and then then motor in the passenger window had to be replaced. Ditto for my 2005 Freestar with 100k miles. It was running fine and after pulling away from a stoplight; transmission just started slipping ( 100% slip ) and from there the story is the same. Haven't spent the $3500 yet - will probably scrap the car. My 2000 Windstar did similar at 30k+ miles. So I bought a new 2011 Sienna. I'm a Toyota man now.

All of my electrical problems were solved (I had some of the same issues you are having and many more) when I had the power control module (PCM) replaced. It was in the shop almost 25 times in the first two years. I haven't had it in since the PCM was replaced. Sadly it took me printing off info from this site for them to fix my problem.

I believe your problem is your PCM. It is getting wet and shorting out, It is a design flaw. Mine caused me all kinds of grief. I did hear today that they put a recall on Fords new car seat recliner problem though...lol. I plan on writing to them AGAIN! This is putting such a financial burden on us. My wife's van (2004 Ford Freestar) has the same problem. She drove it the night before, then got in it the next morning and it wouldn't move. We are trying to find a used one but after seeing all these posts, I don't know what we will do. It only has 67,000 miles so, it should have been good to go for another 67,000 in my opinion.

Why are the 2004 and 2005's the only ones being investigated? I have a 2006 and I had to have my PCM replaced. I had my van in the shop more than 25 times in 3 years because of all of the issues from the PCM. It was because of this site that I found out what the problem was.

Got rid of my Freestar
I totaled my 2004 Freestar just before Thanksgiving. Nothing due to the transmission just my dumb luck. However, I gave my insurance company the bill for the refurbished transmission that I put in July for $3000 and the prorated it and reimbursed me in the processing of my claim. Same exact thing happened to me last year only at 89,000 miles. No warning, no tugs...it just went out in busy holiday traffic while driving up hill.... At any rate, I took mine to a transmission repair shop, torque convertor splines had stripped off, throwing metal shavings into the tranny and causing it to fail.
