2013 Ford Focus Titanium 4dr Hatchback (2.0L 4cyl 6AM)

I've had this car over a month, put about 2,000 miles on it and have nothing but good things to say. The handling is superb, road noise is low and the gas mileage is incredible for a non-hybrid (about 39-40 MPG @ 70 mph, 34-35 MPG @ 75 mph) - literally 25-30% higher than my similar sized 07' Mazda3. The automatic transmission gets a lot of bad press but it's a dual clutch system, which causes adjacent gears to spool up before being engaged. This creates some vibration feedback that's consistent with most manual cars I've driven. I'll take the efficiency gains this setup provides, plus you can drop the car into 'S' sport mode and the tranny responds with sharper shifts.

Favorite Features

I think the car has a relatively strong stereo for a $20K car (w/ Sony 8-speaker upgrade). MyTouch Ford is pretty slick but it could use a capacitive touchscreen. It has nice Bluetooth integration with my Galaxy Nexus Android phone; Spotify over the air into a car stereo is really nice (so are the dual USB charging ports in the center console). Strong, supportive seats with great lumbar and variable heating option (upgraded leather seats). Attention to detail: the unique interior lighting system, solid build quality, sunglasses holder, even the chime is pleasant. Sharp wheel / color combos available - performance blue with gun metal gray wheels look great together.

Suggested Improvements

Performance is not this car's strong suit. Based on the engine design, you don't hit the car's torque curve early in the RPM range. Only above 2500 RPM does this car's power show itself off but the auto tranny will never let you get there in 'D' mode. Slip it into 'S' sport mode and you get great acceleration, but take a 20% hit in mileage. I guess it's good to have options. People dog the MyFord Touch SYNC system but it's really two systems; the MyFord Touch is computer screen in the middle - and while not perfect, works well most of the time. What needs work is the SYNC, voice-recognition part of the system (not surprisingly made by Microsoft). This thing never knows what Im saying.
